I think the most overlooked thing is John saying "I love the movies" he may have studied humans by watching movies and took a liking to the specific ambiance of the movies he liked and adopted to those characters.
Very true! His entire persona of being a private investigator does seem to be pulled straight from the old noir movies. So I would say that we agree with your take for sure!
I did no research for this show. I truly thought it was just a P.I. show with a nod towards nostalgia. This episode changed all that....yet in a good way.
Oh wow! I would definitely have been much more surprised too. However, as a noir PI show I still think it holds up very well! Thanks for joining the conversation.
i really was thrown off by the final scene, I did not expect that at all, like I really just dismissed the weird nostalgia stuff and somehow being relatable to human culture from an outside perspective in a child like fascination, turns out he was straight up just an alien actual plot twist of the year even I did not expect that.
I was thinking about that water aspect they talk about the beach in the meeting in french and ask sugar if he likes the beach as well? they come from a water planet i think since they was speaking about our beach with so much amazement and if sugar also enjoyed going to the beach
Another great tie back to the society meeting! Yes, maybe they are seeking out any and all location where they can enjoy the water. Rob is all on board with the idea of a planet with a high density of water.
Chris definitely had the same thought. What's the deal with the cottonwood tree? For some they symbolize the connection between us and our star ancestors! Maybe it's a hint towards the connection between them and the human race.
@@thescreensleuths I think the clue is what he says at 17:23 "Fertile and dead at the same time". Then he immediately asks about "What's the granddaughter's name again?" I think the aliens are not blue humanoids that are cloaked as humans, but are something else... like maybe the silver tadpoles swimming in the blood bag that Henry uses to fix up Sugar. Some kind of hive-mind from an aquatic planet (lady at party asking Sugar if she likes the beach). I think they need a human host, and in the past it was benign. Like using Racheal who was killed in a car accident. But at some point "The Others" faction of the aliens decided to take direct action and that's where the kidnapped women come into play. That would also make Stallings dog breeding in the basement a bit of foreshadowing.
What is hardly understandable in this episode is the fight scene. Violent criminal idiot acts like an idiot because he can, that is understandable. On the sudden the same violent criminal idiot sees with his own eyes that his victim stops the f. bullet with his own hands, kicks his ass immediately after but leaves him alive, while he could kill him wounds one of his associates and kills another. He needs like seconds to complete all of this. This is certainly something that can convince anyone remotely reasonable and sane to stop acting like idiot and try to negotiate for his life. OK, it doesn't happen at once, let us say he is in shock, etc. But he has another chance as he sees his wounded associate tries to help him by wounding his opponent. Instead of falling down the opponent stays standing, finishes the associate off, takes like 20 cm blade out of himself and manages even to wound violent criminal idiot in the process, just enough to disable him but keeps him alive and sane so he can talk. After seeing clearly these inhumane features of his opponent, after he sees clearly over and over that there is a chance to stay alive if he is cooperative, a violent criminal idiot continues act like idiot and consequentially is being killed. So the question is how someone that stupid could survive as a human trafficking agent for that long? So stupid and he survived years in a highly risky and stressful job where you need to be very flexible, physically and mentally ready on a short time notice or else you are dead? Very unlikely.
Hearing what you're saying, maybe not the most realistic or understandable logic on Stallings' part. This just comes down to a bit of suspension of disbelief on our part as viewers. Sometimes the action scenes in shows/movies are more dramatic for the effect. We would just say that we enjoyed the scene and thought it was a great showcase of John's non-human abilities! Thanks for joining the conversation!
@@thescreensleuths it is certainly a good action scene nevertheless. Especially mixing it with black and white footage of classic movies is a nice touch like in all the series actually.
@@thescreensleuths Probably not, but do I think it would be better if he did turn out to be an angel. I personally think the alien is very stereotypical now, due to Marvel and the skrulls having done it to death…Still, it’s a wicked reveal. Defo separates it from any other usual PI programme/movie.
@@andrewgiles1977 The angel storyline could definitely still fit and give them a good path to follow going forward. The look was very cool though, and they weren't lying when they said it was a twist on the classic noir!

Very good point! We have thought that maybe Ruby is just a hired position to manage them all. If the rest of society as well are human, they could just be informed of them? Good call on Ruby and her cat.
@@thescreensleuths I'm not sure about the society members knowing about them, aliens. Because somehow the society is involved in the cover up of the kidnapping, wouldn't they knew about taking extreme measures to fight/kill Sugar?
@@ppowerman5000 Ruby and the higher up powers are definitely in the know about what Stallings is doing. We may have to find out if the rest of the Polyglot society is in on it as well! Maybe only Henry knows about John being non-human and that is why they have a good relationship?
@@thescreensleuths Henry surely is another alien. Or is a human that knows and works for the aliens, but the society...not sure all are humans/aliens. The thing is, this series twist gave the series a higher rating already. Love the series so far!
We always appreciate a sci-fi twist but the feeling is understandable. It is a much bigger twist than expected if you were hoping for a grounded approach.
@thescreensleuths Yes, I was expecting a secret spy with a secret mission in the guise of a detective story but who really enjoys being a detective and helping find missing people. Instead, we got a male looking version of Nebula from guardians of the galaxy with force like powers who magically repels bullets? I love science fiction but I wanted a more serious detective story like Street Kings where he finds a secret evil organization of kidnappers or human traffickers and takes them down, kind of like if Batman became the Taken (movie guy) at the same time. Anyways I have to finish watching it because I hate not finishing things but disappointed. Pardon typos sh*t phone keys iina * imo ali3n * alien in * I

Now it is definitely a Lynch style noir, so Twin Peaks! I still want to focus on the noir aesthetics of the show. It is a very underrated gem!
