@j-mac7401 It's the worst. But your right, months before you start to feel normal. And then the struggle to stay clean, becomes a lifelong task, that takes work and dedication. But worth it if you put in the work.
What you said about the bands from this era glorifying alcoholism and use of substances is 100% true. Seen that with my own eyes Guys from New York especially tend to struggle with that stuff, it's a hard place to keep sober I tell ya.=
He’s always had his family funds to fall back on I suppose - he can’t really lose it all like a regular guy. He’s unlikely to become homeless like Lanegan is he?
Yeah, but even Lanagen had advantages, royalties, Kurt paid for his dope while alive, so did Layne..then Courtney paid for his rehab when he hit rock bottom. Then Queens gave em a part time job post rehab. So I think if your a famous Rockstar you'll always be privileged and have advantages. Which I'd say makes it that much harder to stop using. As a former heroin addict, I speak from experience. The worst thing that ever happened to me was getting a high paying job. When I worked at dead end jobs, it was kinda easy to kick when I wanted to. But as soon as I started making 6 figures, it was over for me..I can say I was a fully functioning addict. I paid my bills, and spent the rest on dope. It went from easy to impossible to stop and it took me nearly 7 yrs. after getting that job to finally realize what I had to do to stop. And am still not out the woods yet..it hasn't been very long. So we'll see..it's very hard kickin' when you have the means to get high with little risk financially..

Living with an addiction is totally different for a rich kid like this guy. These guys can dick around all they like and then when they want to get clean they can just toddle off to some tropical paradise for a couple weeks. Then go live at the second or third home so you are out of the orbit of the users you were hanging around with before. Try doing that when you're on the dole and living on some council estate. Life is just a playground for these people. An H addiction that many would never recover from is merely a speedbump for them. A roll around in the dirt with the peasants, some cheap thrills. Then back to the yacht or the villa on the french riviera. Yeah, im jealous.
That's just you projecting mate. I got sober in NYC , I heard all the stories and interacted with every conceivable addict from millionaire to skidrow junkie and it doesn't matter , the struggles to stay sober and working the steps to rebuild and make smends to the people we've harmed are the same. I met The Strokes just before their first album came out. Albert and Fabrizio were really nice and easy to talk to. Julian and the other two were twats. I'm glad Albert overcame his addiction. He's a good dude.
That’s the feeling I get too, and Fab and Albert are my favorites. I think they are the most charismatic members after Julian. Julian, Nick and Nikolai seem arrogant in their way of exaggerating a false cool attitude (Julian and Nick in particular). Often the Tall ones are arrogant, because they have the attention of girls.
Iggy Pop has three words of advice to anyone starting to do well in music: stick to weed.
It's the truth! As an addict of 24 years. Weed never caused any problems and if I don't have it, I just don't have it.
Iggy shoulda stuck to his own advice!
Yeah stick to weed if you want your career to die before it began

Momentary masters is his best solo work imo, just my opinion
Attempting to detox while on the road from heroin - having to perform each night. You will lose everytime.
No doubt! You need a bed and a t.v. for at least 2 weeks with NOTHING TO DO but stay in bed.

Not for nothing, but these guys always had money and they're in NYC, which unfortunately has the best, cleanest shit around.
