I so love the Moodies! And good songs here! This group are the Gods of Classic/Prog/Symphonic rock. (Yes, I also love Tull, ELP, Yes...) Thanks for including Procession and then that AWESOME beginning to Story!
Greetings from Miami. Insightful reaction, Brandon. Nice work! In my high school days, The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd were my 2 favorite groups. Many years later, both groups still are at the top of my list. The Moody Blues are outstanding!
Hello! Thanks for watching. Yes, Moody should really be on my channel more often. Going to finally hear all of Future Passed album soon on Patreon, so excited for that!
Great reaction/reviews Brandon!! This made my Friday morning! One of my earliest memories of the Moodies was the video for Your Wildest Dreams, I was 8, it was 1986 - my sister had it recorded on VHS from MuchMusic (Canadian MTV), and I watched it (and loved it) plenty! It's such a feel-good, whimsical, nostalgic song! Wasn't long after that I got more into the 'back catalogue' of theirs! The Story In Your Eyes stands as a true rocker in their catalogue! The entire album, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, is a treat! Starting with these two tracks. Cheers!
My brothers had several of their albums. We were listening to them in the 1970s and beyond! I remember Procession! I always liked that. I really liked the albums “in Search of the Last Chord”, “Days of Future Passed”, “Every Good Boy Deserves Favour” and “To Our Children’s Children’s Children”! Such a great catalogue of songs to explore!
from Days of Future Passed to Seventh Sojourn which all 7 are considered concept albums, The Moodies music will definitely take you on a trip. the drummer actually invented the electronic drum kit. hope you do more Moodies they have well over 200 songs in their catalogue...GREAT REACTION!
@JohnLRice Yup, agree on both.. Most people don't put Seventh Sojourn at #1, but it's brilliant. I'd probably put In Search of The Last Chord or A Question of Balance at #3.
Glad you are doing some of the Moodies! Story in Your Eyes is one of their heavier songs and its brilliant... Most of their stuff was pastoral and psychedelic with some changes to Progressive Rock sound's by the 1970s. Their 1980s and 90s stuff is just some soft rock or pop and perhaps some new wave, but it just doesn't hold up and nowhere near as good as the classic stuff.
Had Graeme the personality of Ringo and Ray the looks of George, they could have been the Beatles. I mean Justin has the cute good looks of Paul, and John the name and seriousness of John. But they also had Pinder! Merlin himself. So they were a more magical, more mature Beatles. And in general, they are more "headphone music" than the Beatles, especially Pinder's contributions. Love the doubling up, because they have so many great songs, and pairing them can better show their range and depth. Muchas gracias!
“Retroly cinematic” -it’s almost as though you’ve seen the official video! Another great track from that album is the title track “The Other Side of Life”. My wife and I saw them live on this tour, and they had a new band opening for them - The Fixx! Great concert.
WOW!!! My MOODY BLUES years... which still continue today with such enchantment. Three great commercial successes, catchy as hell, from a band that has become legendary. There are three other commercial successes (real earworms) that I have always kept in mind and that I hum on occasion, often without my knowing: - “Steppin In The Slide Zone” - "Gemini Dream" [of which Jeff Lynne and ELO could have been the composers and performers because the voice, sound and orchestration are similar] - "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)" Thanks.
Awesome review! The Moodies were so creative. Procession is such a unique and interesting song. I love how it closes with the electric guitar leading into the opening riff of the Story in Your Eyes. Truly epic.
Apparently you can 'dig it' lol! Great reaction - helped to untrain my listening patterns for a fresh perspective- thanks Brandon! Back in the day there'd be a good dozen of us hanging out at our friend John's house. Saturday eves would be a group meditation, then onto awesome albums, and often MB because his Mum loved them too. (Tea in hand, she always held space for us teens, from the couch corner) Especially memorable because MB's lyrics & soundscapes inspired us to dig deeper into conversation, exploring the 'whys' of the universe.
Top Dollar Brandon... First one just silky... Second was strange (first listen). Last was one of my favourites (upbeat for them.) Forerunners of symphonic prog, class act.
I Love Moody Blues. There was an instrument at the beginning of" Wildest Dreams," that also is in the start of an INXS song. I wonder what that instrument is? Maybe just an electronic noise. I don't know.
The atmosphere created by the keys in the first exact 28 seconds of "Your Wildest Dreams" and ELO 1978 "Wishing" song, are soul mates from another world.
Señor.. we need more Supertramp on this channel, the emotional and nostalgics "Bonnie" & "C'est le Bon"" are waiting x you for a long loooong time, go ahead, Biden won't charge you taxes for your reaction of those beauties 😂
Always a good time for the Moody Blues. Your Wildest Dreams got a fair amount of play on MTV and VH1(the video actually fit the lyrics... which was sometimes a problem with videos). Bittersweet, which the Moodies usually aimed for. Per usual with the Moodies, well engineered/produced. Justin Heyward on vocals is just right, per usual Procession/The Story In Your Eyes--pleasantly weird, also something the Moodies aimed for. Mike Pinder shines on keys.
Although I consumed everything available to me in the ‘70’s on AM, cum AOR FM (WPLR). Then, it was so nice to eat lunch with my main squeeze on a side road for my 30 minutes of sanity when the noontime on-air curator (who had just played side 1 of an extremely relevant album) opined (I paraphrase) “I recommend that you take the rest of the afternoon off”. But I digress: Took a hit of mescaline. Saw the Moody Blues live in the late ‘70’s in New Haven,CT. Full disclosure: could have been Hartford, just wishing it to have been New Haven- my favorite venue that no longer exists. Because I was so receptive to a band that I’d heard ubiquitously on the radio when they had a hit, but never sought out or purchased (I hope the payoff doesn’t disappoint after so much build up) I felt then that I’d just experienced the “immaculate concert”. Went to this show with a total stranger, took mescaline. Experienced the show together but she was a diehard Blues fan and gloriously talked my ear off all the way home and recapped what I’d experienced for the first. So thank you for triggering this disparate but historical fond reinterpretation of what probably actually occurred. Think of William Hurt in the isolation tank in the film ‘Altered States’. The Moody Blues were the soundtrack on that particular occasion. The music felt like aural lava to my ears. Your reaction/review brought up these thoughts as I hadn’t hear one of the songs you featured , SO. I was feeling receptive just now, so this was just what I didn’t realize I needed. Suppose I just could have just said ‘Thank You’, but where’s the adventure in that line of anti-verbosity?😉
Amazing versatility with this band, all the while maintaining sonic and creative excellence... Thanks for watching! 🥰
Have You Heard Part 1/The Voyage/Have You Heard Part 2 is absolutely epic!
So much love for this band! 💙🎶
Listening now, I'm always up for some Moody Blues!
I so love the Moodies! And good songs here! This group are the Gods of Classic/Prog/Symphonic rock. (Yes, I also love Tull, ELP, Yes...) Thanks for including Procession and then that AWESOME beginning to Story!
The Story in Your Eyes has a timeless classic feel to it. Gets better with age.
That is one of my all-time favorite Moody Blues songs.

My favorite MB's song. Never gets old, even while I do.

Seventh Sojourn is definitely my favorite but Days of Future Passed is a close second! And everything between is great also. 😎👍

Just sublime…
R.I.P. mellotron master Mike Pinder

Great reaction to two different eras of the Moodies creativity but with so much to offer and to enjoy sonically 👌👍
As a kid I listened to this in my bedroom with headphones on. Eventually turned me on to Genesis.
Nice to hear The Moody Blues back in the fold. Not familiar with “Procession”, but the other two are very familiar.
“Retroly cinematic” -it’s almost as though you’ve seen the official video! Another great track from that album is the title track “The Other Side of Life”. My wife and I saw them live on this tour, and they had a new band opening for them - The Fixx! Great concert.

HAHA, great minds think alike (see today's reaction and your ELO comment above!)

Thank you! One of the great discoveries from my channel. Of course Days of Future Passed album blew me away as well!

Not sure, but it kind of sounds like a Theremin with its high pitch sound.

You should watch their 2006(I think) concert in the Albert Hall, they were still great!

By the 80s they were definitely aiming for the US market.
Oh yeah... this is High School for me!!! LOL I grew up listening to Nights in White Satin so I was excited to hear "new music" from them... LOL ❤
Remember when I bought the album.
Although I consumed everything available to me in the ‘70’s on AM, cum AOR FM (WPLR). Another harder song to check out "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band".❤

The American mnemonic is "Every Good Boy Does Fine".
Brits know the last bits as "Deserves Favour".
I only like a handful of Moody Blues tracks and these are not those. ☹
