Maybe a useful question would have been whether his mother knew he had come today, and weather he had talked to her already about his concerns, need for carers etc? Would she be accepting of this? Does she have capacity to refuse?

Thank you for this scenario. I've been in a similar scenario before, and I wasn't sure if I was allowed to just turn up at the mothers house without her permission? I know her son in this case has LPA, but i'm guessing that we need to ensure she lacks capacity first before he can be in a position to arrange for us to visit her home?

Thank you Doctors for the wonderful CSA. May I ask about a couple of things? Any readers seeing this comment, please give your insight too.
    1. At intro, shouldn't we confirm the person we are talking to? What if this is a wrong person
    2. Are we authorized to talk to the son about the mother's health without her approval
    3. Excuse me for my ignorance, I see ICE is a very vital part if consultation but what is the rationale of asking about the "concern" of ICE here? I mean, isn't it obvious, that the son would want to know a method to stop her mother from drinking and improve her wellbeing?
    4. Are we supposed to take any other histories such as, PMH, diet, exercise, smoking etc

Early on in the video "the son" says he has the power of attorney and that the doctor has access to her chart.

And yes you should definitely confirm the person on the other end of the phone but this is just a video for training therefore I am guessing they cut it short with the little summary from the caller at the beginning.
