Then they would have to admit how bad they treated us and didn't recognize our efforts that helped our country. The narrative is that we are a strain on our country to justify our mistreatment.
Tyler Perry knocked it out the park. This period piece was amazing. I have watched it 2 times. Kerry Washington was a beast excellent work. Keep telling our stories that have been hidden just like "Hidden Figures" We have a lot of history to be told that white don't want world to know. SALUTE to you Tyler Perry. Excellent work ❤❤❤ it. It made me cry 😢
This took place during one of the most Grueling time of WW II The Battle of the Bulge, another stand out group that helped turned the tide was the Great 761st Tank Battalion. We were even on the beaches during D day. This is a very Beautiful light signed on great Black Americans doing extraordinary things. Salute cast and crew for a former Black American Solider who love his history.
I cried throughout Tyler Perry's/Netflix's "The Six Triple Eight." This MASTERPIECE is OUTSTANDING! This will be a film that will keep on giving for generations to come. We will see adaptations in the theater and other genres. Kerry Washington deserves an OSCAR for her performance here. I'm always humbled, astounded and impacted by the strength, resilience, brilliance, achievements, dutifulness, perseverance, commitment, dedication, devotion and diligence of our African American ancestors. What a respectful, angelic and BEAUTIFUL tribute to them by Tyler Perry in "The Six Triple Eight." WELL DONE. ❤️ Despite the evil, lies, tricks, sabotage, torment, torture, racism, harassment, nastiness and disrespect of yt supremacists/yt terrorists-the oppressors-our ancestors continued on their missions, journeys and assignments. They survived degradation and denigration. They worked hard and laser-focused to chart a path for their/our success. They always managed to exceed the goal posts, although they weren't made privy to them. They continued to fight for justice, fairness and humanity, although they didn't see, feel, or experience these things. And, THEN, there’s US... To this day, we continue to walk in their footsteps; channeling their brilliance. We continue to tread in their blood, hard work and successes as we strive and work to form a more perfect Union. We continue to fight the evils of racism, while at the same time, pushing forward. I'm SO VERY PROUD to be BLACK! THANK YOU! ❤️
In LOVING MEMORY OF James Tabb WWll (Navy) John Tabb WWll (Army) Leroy Tabb WWll (Army) We are proud of how you represented your family, country and community. The women of the 6888th provided my grandparents the communication with her sons, which meant everything. They made it home in one piece and of sound mind. Rest in Heaven, dear uncles❤
I am a retired MARINE and I cried through most of this movie. It was powerful, I had never heard the story. I feel blessed to have seen this and will dig deeper into the Six Tripple Eight, as they are no longer lost to history. Well done! ❤🙏
I am an Afro- American woman living abroad as a performer and teacher...As a woman of this heritage we have always had to fight in insurmountale circumstances and l difficulties...this survival trait is not new only the circumstances!!! This is a intricant part of AMERICAN HISTORY...thank you so very Mr. Perry....WELL DONE...what an enlightenment for us all....BEAUTIFULLY EXCUTED!!! I LOVED IT!!!WORD and CHURCH❤❤❤
Excellent movie, truly enjoyed it, never heard the story before this… but glad I know it now. We are some awesome people. There are so many other stories that have not been told. Thank you Tyler Perry, Kerry Washington and all of the other ladies that made this story come to life. 4 Stars ⭐️ to you.
Must see! Everyone gave an amazing performance and it was shot beautifully! So happy to say I loved it! ❤️❤️❤️I never thought I’d say that; was so done with the negative stereotypes of TP films and had stopped tuning in…
Loved the film. Kerry and these other beautiful Black women did that. Behind the scenes as well. Thank you Tyler and thank you Debbie Allen for your excellent choreography. I cried and cheered.😂
Absolutely brilliant story, coming from this "history buff"! I was seriously shocked that I had not ever heard of these women's efforts. Mr. Perry out did himself with the level of excellence he approached this film. I'm grateful.
This movie was so moving and the most amazing brought to life movie that I've seen yet. Black women have been carrying the load forever and this is just one example of it. At the age of 73, it is sad that I'm just hearing about it. Now, at this time in 2024, we the Black women are taking a rest. Great job Tyler Perry. Great job actresses and actors.
Heart Breaking 😢😢😢. I'm and historical nut. I love to hear new pieces of black history that have not known before. Think you for this wonderfully told story.
I've known about the 6888th since I was 10 years old my Grandfather and Great Uncle served in the Army in WWII 761st Tank Battalion Tuskegee Airmen Montford Point Marines Buffalo Soldiers 9th Cavalry 24th Infantry all Negro Units in Segregated Army served with Honor Courage and Bravery despite the RACISM amongst SOUTHERN OFFICERS during WWII.
Great movie. I read Lt.Col Adams-Early’s book about 10 years ago and the movie closely followed her story. Perry got the uniforms and soldierly standards correct. I retired from Ft. Mc Phearson, now Tyler Perry Studios, 18 years ago and recognized many of the buildings on the location. Well done Mr. Perry and crew, well done.
I am happy that TP is doing this type of cinema. Madea movies were loved when first made however we, I wanted to see growth. I hope many untold black history movies are made. ❤❤❤
🩵🩵🩵 I love this movie, this is Tyler Perry best work, Kerry Washington was a beast in this movie, and the supporting cast was excellent, this was a very powerful movie, that final scene between Major Charity and that racist General, who did everything in his power to make sure they didn’t succeed, when her battalion stood up and applauded her and she started crying, I cried right along with her, what a emotional scene
This movie was AMAZING! I was skeptic to watch this movie due to Tyler Perry has so much "DRAMA" going on in most of his plays and TV series. However, this was EXCELLENT! It felt like TRUTH. It felt AUTHENTIC. I loved Kerry Washington in this movie. She WAS PERFECT! You HAVE TO WATCH. how Tyler Perry brought these characters to life. He really did an excellent job. I pray he continues to make more movies that feel true to the CORE. i have to apologize to Mr. Perry for being so JUDGEMENTAL! I needed this movie as a BLACK WOMEN in her 60's Thank you Mr. Perry for showin up and showin out. YOU DID EXTRAORDINARY WORK IN THIS MOVE!
Yes, there were a few discrepancies from a military point of view. There was an incident where a hat badge was upside down and once when they were marching commands were given to the entire unit while marching, once saying "company" and later saying "battalion". The correct command was battalion. A battalion size unit would have a Sergeant Major and other senior NCOs but there were none in the cast. It would have been good if they could have incorporated NCOs in the cast to make it more realistic from a military point of view. Despite this criticism I thought the movie was good and I appreciate Tyler Perry doing some serious work. I don't have enough praise for Kerry Washington!
The movie was well done. I had to put aside the fact that I know the history and details about the battalion. There were discrepancies, I know this because my mother was a member of the 6888th. She was portrayed in the film by Kylie Jefferson who played Bernice. Overall I enjoyed the movie very much.
Have you visited any African American Military history museums? Have you been to a reference library? This story, along with dozens more has been told for years. There are so many incredible books out there written by AA. YT have dozens of videos, sadly, very few views.
People are saying this is his best film. How many people watched For Colored Girls, That Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad and a lot of strong black women were in. This is a great film but he has made other serious films.
What I really want to say y white director white producers in Hollywood try to keep this story under the rag white director n white producers kept this story under the rag n produce alot of war movies n disregard a true story Tyler Perry thank u for bringing this story to life
It is not that "white" producers in Hollywood kept this story under the rug. The bottom line is they knew nothing about it, just like a lot of Black producers and other folks knew nothing about these amazing women. Spike didnt do this movie, but he did Miracle at St. Anna in 2008. It was a masterpiece about the contributions of Black soldiers in Italy during WWll. I don't have any friends of family members that saw it, and i grew up in a military family. Some veterans that return home dont talk about their experiences. Those that want to talk about their experiences can't find anyone to listen. The only reason I was familiar with the 6888th is because my uncles that were fortuntate enough to survive WWII came home with stories about these women and how proud they were of them. One final thought.....there are movies about our stories that dont get a green light because Hollywood used to say we won't support positive Black films. Black Panther and Hidden Figures put that BS to rest. Before he died, Sidney Poitier tried desperately to get a movie about the Golden Thirteen (Navy) made. He tried for almost 30 years. Morgan Freeman went through all kinds of changes in order to get 761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers made. This is the powerful story of the first all Black tank battalion to fight in U.S. history under Genral George Patten during WWII . THEY WERE SOME SERIOUS WARIORS and were the furthest east of ALL U.S. troops in the European theater of war. The word "hero" doesn't do them justice. We have to tell our own stories.....and then teach our children and we have to support films that convey those stories and not just during Black history month!
Its good to see how our minorities groups contributed to the us. More movies like this need to be done to preserve Americas history even with other groups like cherokee and latinos/hispanics in ww2 vietnam etc...great things happen even amidst adversity blessings
Just because he highlights this historic time DOES NOT EQUATE NOR CORRELATE with him caring about Black Women. Is he still not making money off them just in a different genre? For decades he's exploited Black Women. Does this ONE film nullify that? Absolutely not 🚫. Stop being so docile and naive. It is and has ALWAYS BEEN about money. He & everyone else are well aware of the power of the Black woman's dollar and influence.
Saw the movie and didn't like it, my mom served in the unit and told me horrific stories and accounts. wondering why they would have the opening scene focus on an inter-racial relationship - why was this sooooo important, when black men were being hanged for such - just tell the story. some of the acting was a bit over the top, great actresses though, however I would give it a D - Why do have to highlight others to tell our story, this I don't understand. just tell the story
Tyler Perry personally interviewed the lady in that interracial relationship and that was what caught his attention. He wasn’t making a documentary but a film. Any good based on a true story has a hook in it. They do make multiple movies about the same topic like Red Tails was so maybe you can contact Ava Duvernay or Spike Lee or some film student at NYU or an HBCU and have them write a script or help you write a script based on the knowledge you have from your mom and other descendants who didn’t like the film and make your own.People like to complain but most do nothing. I teach at a school and I don’t like how they run it nor other schools I have worked at so I am working on opening my own. All the best to you in making the film or documentary that truly honors your mother as you would deem so.
@inmythoughts718 I wondered that also.then I realized who was production, and knew it was the same agenda from Oprah and Tyler the gatekeepers.could have been an opportunity to show American history centered on Black peoples (especially Black Women) achievements but instead the shame ol shame ol coming for these two who'll used Black stories to push agendas given by their handlers.
Your mom's story was her story, her version. There were 854 other versions and recollections. Should they be discounted in favor of your mother's? No. Tyler spoke with two members of the 6888th and consulted with a historian along with Lonnie Bunch, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. While it may not coincide with your mother's experience, the film is an accurate portrayal of their stories and that is what matters.
This is some of Tyler Perry best work we need more films like this
This is an amazing piece of history. Thank you 🙏🏿 Mr Perry for sharing this story. Black history is American history!
Black history is American and should NEVER be swept under the rug.

He previously fired all screen writers that challenged his script. As I stated in a previous post, same tactic different genre.

@charleshenry8194 Well said. Who wants to make a film about an important story that nobody wants to see
Your mom's story was her story, her version. There were 854 other versions and recollections. Should they be discounted in favor of your mother's? The subject matter is wonderful but the film was boring. It started too slowly and labored . (My mother was in the WACS during the Korean Conflict.)
