love the voice shortcuts in accessibility and the integration of voice recordings in notes.
I actually like the new Photos app. I just think it'll take a little getting used to. I like how all the collections have an instant Ken Burns effect, which gives the app more energy and life (ugh, that sounded cheesy).
My two favorite features are the new Control Center and the new features in Messages like the colorful Tapbacks and text formatting, even though I can't use it yet since I'm the only person that I know that installs the beta on my one and only iPhone. 😅
I installed it on my daily phone. Did the same for iOS17. I like living on the edge. lol

I always do since iOS 12. I haven’t run into any problems. Lol
In the Photos app, if you scroll all the way down and tap Customize, you can reorder everything to match you preferences. Less scrolling that way. It’s actually better.

My Wifes iPhone is used primarily for making phone calls. Can IOS 18 be set up on the first screen to make calls much easier?

With ALL of Apple Intelligence? Well if we're talking out of beta. Next year. But if it's some of the features., then you should still expect it in September-ish
I definitely agree about the photos app , it’s not efficient and user friendly
Reverted back to 17.5.1 because iOS 18 beta was killing my iPhone 13 Pro Max battery. Other than that it worked pretty well, small minor stutter here and there but nothing that really bothered me.
Thanks for the report @Gillfordd. I am also on a 13 Pro Max and I wouldn't want the battery life to be any shorter than it already is. I am excited for all these features. I doubt I'll use most of them on a regular basis. RCS is nice because my daughter is using an Android phone.

Is it hidden though if people can still see the hidden section and know there are apps hidden?
But they can't see what Apps are in there you have to Face ID authorize to even see inside that folder.
@@briantong understandable in terms of the app not being visible but are you really hiding it when there is a folder with a label saying hidden?
It would have been nice to have the Samsung style of hidden folder where you can hide the folder itself
But Apple is Apple
Xiaomi, Realme, Redmi, Motorola, OnePlus (Colour OS) all take inspiration from iOS.
Apple using basic features from Android is a good thing imo.
It's hard to hate on Apple when so many Android OEMs copy their iPhone design and iOS features.

In photos swipe and you’ll see customise. You can remove all that stuff you said you don’t like.
@9:21 To be fair if you force close the photos app on iOS 17, you have to tap into the album to get to your full photo list (versus a swipe as mentioned)

I’ve been saying for years! Focusing on customization is better than a camera to shoot movies.
Biggest missed oportunity was to not have adaptive tinted icons to the wallpaper.
I use rotating wallpapers, so won’t be useful to me unfortunately
Agreed. I wonder if that's possible using focus modes and shortcuts/automations (to change the focus at a certain time of day)? I might have to try it out after the official release, since I generally skip the betas.
I can’t get it
4:37 this flashlight functionality is literally what I use the most. That’s a big one when looking under a bed or couch. Otherwise, in SOME instances, the default wider setting is useless. Need proof? Drop a lug nut in an engine in a poorly lit garage and try to use your iPhone flashlight in pre iOS 18. It’s not completely useless, it’ll help you see, but you’re gonna move ya head around, try to look around and under some tubes or timing belts, and you’ll miss it in shadows. Focus the light and amp up intensity, it’s like light with a purpose. More “pen light”.
Why is still only one timer on the clock app
Now all we need is a proper theming engine

I put it on my daily driver with beta 1-now. 🤷🏽♂️ No problems. Few bugs. But no “problems”.
I believe the send later option is only for IOS.🤷♂️

It's a beta. I NEVER recommend that on your daily driver phone. Never. It works, but that's for you to decide.

I’m waiting for messages RCS support. Than I can drop mine WhatsApp. And was hoping apple map will improve faster so I don’t have to use google maps anymore

Why would you reccomend people to NEVER use it on their daily driver? If the user has backed the device up and also knows what they are doing to a certain extent, what is the issue?
The OS isn't optimized most of the time so battery life can be affected. Some 3rd apps end up not being compatible or perform poorly. There are bugs that you won't see anywhere else that happen. It's a beta.

I absolutely loath the new iOS18 photos. all i want is a camera roll album back, I can unsee the rest.
I put some photos from my Mac to my iPhone (DSLR from wedding vendor) and because the godsend photo library do not allow customization of photo sequence, my photo timeline is therefore, all over the place. Plus now I can't find anything captured purely from iPhone/iPad, its all jumbled together, it's a holy mess. I will not update until they fix that shit.
Apple really needs to add native BitTorrent support in AiOS 19 for private personal iCloud backup and archiving.

Thanks for mentioning the horrible photos app design. It Isn't only you. Everyone is agreed it's horrible and considered as a downgrade except for Apple teenagers photos team who swear to ruin the app for us. Shame on you Mr federighi for allowing this crappy design to pass to ios 18

I'd like to put my banking and finance apps in the hidden folder. It might make a difference if someone were to steal my phone.
the hide app is pretty half baked tbh.....I mean anyone with knowledge of this feature can goto your app lib. and see you have hidden apps...even though they won't be able to open the app up without Face ID/and your passcode....which defeats the purpose as even without this hide app feature no one will be able to open your phone up to begin with to access the apps...I think Samsung does it better where you can rename the hidden folder...show/hide the hidden folder etc. as an example - on my s24U I can hide my banking apps into a hidden folder which I rename to whatever I want...change the hidden folder icon to whatever I want and if I want I can show or hide the hidden folder within the app drawer. I like the control panel and its look though along with a feature I have been waiting on iOS for soooooooooooo long - the ability to schedule a text message. I haven't installed the beta on my ip15pm yet but will give it a try

I mean let's be real. AI upgrade to Siri and RCS is the only thing we want to see tbh... the rest are just nice but not major.
Actually, considering that I’m on an iPhone. I could care less about RCS. That’s an android problem in my opinion.

lol! Thankfully not completely. They still both have distinct strengths and weaknesses, and both borrow from each other. Apple not allowing their users to place icons where they want for so long is absolutely ridiculous. Add it to the list of simple things they refuse to do.
Well they should become like Android, because the current iOS is boring and stale AF. It is not fun to use and feels more like a chore to do simple things.
