  • The VW Atlas is the biggest product in the company lineup with seating for 7-passengers over three rows of seats. Even though this is much bigger than the other VW products it sahes the exact same 4Motion AWD system with its smaller VW cousins. This 4MotionAWD system has the ability to shift up to 100 percent of the power from the front wheels to the rear wheels.

    Hey Zack, how does the AWD system compares to the Subaru? I have a 2016 Forester with a manual, studded Nokian
    Hakkapeliitta and having a lot of fun with a Winnipeg Winter. Cheers. Rob

      The Atlas uses a Haldex. Subaru uses a viscous coupling for the manual, or an open center for the CVT. With the Haldex in the Atlas, on pavement / tarmac it can send up 50% of the power to the rear. But suppose the front tires are on ice, and the rear are on pavement, it will engage the clutch fully, and try to send the power to the back, but its still an open center diff, so the torque will take the path of least resistance and it will dump the power on the ice in the front and not push off the pavement in the back, this is if its a steep hill. They talk about it like it WILL send the power to the back, but actually it only TRIES to but physically it cannot. The WRX STi with the DCCD is still the best AWD system of any car excluding trucks with their transfer cases because the DCCD can lock up and send power where its needed no matter what. The STi if on jack stands with only one wheel attached will drive off the jack stands, where as the Atlas is the opposite, if you take only one wheel off, it will send all the power to where the missing wheel is and not drive of the jacks.

      Rick LeRoy Thank you Rick. I’m thinking of installing a limited slip diff on the rear axle when it comes off warranty if available. Do you think it would be worth it?

    • @sergevivier2861
      @sergevivier2861 6 років тому +1

      Simbagator,
      You have the best winter tires money can buy with the Hakkapeliitta. I have been using them for about 15 years now and I am 70 years old with more than 2 millions Km driven collision free :)

      @@youcansendme-a-letter >or an open center for the CVT
      Subarus with CVT has no center diff but uses clutches instead, similar to the one used on Atlas.
      >where as the Atlas is the opposite, if you take only one wheel off, it will send all the power to where the missing wheel is and not drive of the jacks.
      That's open diff behavior. Once again, the atlas uses a clutch pack to deliver torque to the rear, which your case will act as a hard connection between front and rear.

    In July 2018, I purchased a VW flagship version of Teramont 530V6 (2.5T) in Shenzhen, China. While I driving to 4000 kilometers, a brake failure was found. At the same time, I found that the engine was seriously leaking oil and EPC light turned on. The whole vehicle suddenly stopped running two times so far, You have to restart before you can drive. The problem has not been completely solved by looking for manufacturers and distributors many times. This problem brings a lot of troubles to my life, and I lose my confidence in Volkswagen. This case can be used for your reference when you want to buy a SAIC Volkswagen.
