I've been playing ETS2 since release, and its getting so much better, the UK was the first part of the map to be released, and SCS hasn't given it a facelift yet. Otheres mentioning ProMods are correct, it is great, especially addons to the UK.

Second this post for Promods. After playing ETS with promods I'm having a hard time to go back and play without, Promods just makes the base game's crappy areas (e.g. UK & Poland) singificantly better.
Absolutely agree with the UK terain quality. I rarely go to UK, despite my company being based in Sheffield.
Also, can you explain how different is Jake bake to retarder? I'm curious since you mentioned both systems work differently.
remember that your gps shows the speed limit in km/h, but because your truck is from england, the speedometer are in m/h

I have about 200 hours in Euro Truck Simulator 2, I dabble in ATS here and there as well. Pretty much everywhere but the UK will drive on the right hand side
ADR, just is Dangerous Goods. It's in reference to the Transportation Treaty they have in place. "Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route"

They do have a cruise ship in American truck. Its called a Fairy it takes you to one end of the map to the newest dlc. Theres a steam achievement

Most american thing are daf semi trucks with MX engines like in the kenworth and peterbillt trucks

In ATS the state of Washington has car ferries. There is a steam achievement (Ferry Tales) for using a car ferry
Hey Mike, yea been playing ETS for about 9 years now. For the last 4 years playing on through steam and have like over 2500 hours. I can relate about how much time we have for ourselves. Trucking is my job and free time playing ETS and ATS. Been in transport for over 17 years. Early mornings like 3 to 4 am wake up. Work around 18 to 20 hours a day and rest 3 to 4 hours. Was a distance driver for long, pick up and drop but now, I do multiple drops each day. Truck is pre loaded with about 12 to 20 stops per day. Don't drive a rig or anything big. Not sure what they will call the type of truck I drive. Single diff closed body which can transport 16000 pounds.

You find a lot more American nosed semis in Russia that are used for work. The Dutch love putting on semi truck shows. They have Euro & American style trucks at the shows

The Volvo you're driving this time is of the previous generation.
I suggest you go quick contracts for now and try every truck manufacturer in the game. Then when its time to buy that first truck, you will have a good idea of its capabilities and what suits your tastes.
Oh, IRL, European ferries are big affairs, with some almost as big as some cruise ships, just have doors in front and back.
About American trucks in Europe... all of them bought as show trucks. No working American trucks there, the length of say, a Kenworth W900 and an American type trailer is a little too much for the narrow roads in Europe.
Speaking of truck shows, there are trucks shows in every European country. One popular one is in Ciney in France, whose latest edition just ended several weeks ago.
So next trip you'll drive PACCAR steel, and its the second to last generation of the DAF XF at that. Can't wait for your impressions of the DAF compared to its Peterbilt and Kenworth stablemates...

Since your company in ETS 2 is based in the UK, its better to buy a truck with LHD configuration, you will rarely make it back to UK once you start driving long distance. The challanges on roads (especially the eastern european side), is worth.

ADR is an Agreement concerning the international carriage of Dangerous goods by Road between the European countries. Pretty much a EU bureaucracy stuff.
Just incase you aren't aware the white sign with the diagonal black line is national speed limit. Which is 60 for normal roads, 70 for dual carriageway or motorway

bought it like a year or 2 before ATS was out...i would always throw american trucks and trailer mods in...man where they a challenge to drive on these tiny roads
If you want to get a truck earlier than taking a bank loan is there is a mod called used trucks and they are about 50% cheaper than a brand new truck which you can use til you can afford a brand new truck

been playing this since release. visiting GB rarely due to poor quality, it is here since release and is endlessly far from newer expansions in terms of quality and details.
there are most common gearbox layouts in settings of default game - for Volvo, Scania and ZF gearboxes. e.g. the one for Volvo has just 3 lever positions. range selector makes it 6-speed and each can be split. so 12 gears for your service. and of course all mentioned are synchrinized. EatonFuller-like aren't common for modern European trucks. as well as any manual in the end.
also apply retarder if available! it is as common here as jake in US.
I am from Ukraine and yeah, we have some American trucks on the roads. some of them fit in regulations with euro trailers unlike from EU. and yeah most of them are quite old. the most common is Volvo VNL I think. I also met Freightliners like Coronado, Columbia and Century. some Kenworth T2000. also my cousin drove Peterbilt dumper, local deliveries from quarry for some concrete-producing enterprise
