You know she's thinking.."Thank God I'm not hanging on for dear life in a nest on a branch getting soaked ...thanks LTBN for putting up this nesting box")
My thought exactly👍
@@cattailer1077 , mine also!
Aww absolutely!
As an ethologist, my scientific judgement is that I almost died from how cute that was. I felt sorry for poor little Inky - thunder is scary for just about all animals, but I imagine for a tiny little 13-gram bird a storm would be terrifying, and that nervous nestling deeper into her nest was just precious as could be. I'm glad she's safe in there!
It's so sweet how she immediately settles over the eggs to protect them. ♥️
At least she’s in that cozy little house instead of being soaked
It’s good to be queen
In a glorious townhouse …!
Look at her beautiful cozy nest. There's nothing like being in your comfy house when its rainy outside ❤
I always feel so frightened for my babies I feed when a storm comes in. I'm always checking the weather to make sure I get the seed out with plenty of time to spare before the storm rolls in so they can stock up and don't have to venture out when the sky is growling! Poor little luvs 😞
⛈️ 🌩
*Mama Chickadee*
"Mmm...bad weather. But, we scored with this nest cavity! Safe, dry, no wind. I'm good. We're good, my little ones." 🌳🛖🪺🐦💚
She instinctively hunkers down to protect her 'clutch'... whether there or not!
What a pleasant thing to see. 😊
Look at all of that fuzzy back ‘hair’!! 🐦❤️
I love her fluffy!❤️
Chickadees are so cute and adorable, love 😍 them 🌺💞🥰
That's right, hunker down little guy.
All cozy and protected from the storm. It seems the thunder made her a bit uneasy. I'm so glad you have this little house for her to keep her safe!❤
I can relate to Inky’s startled reaction to the thunder. I sometimes feel like I’m going to jump out of my skin when thunder booms loud enough to shake the house, or a lightning bolt flashes brightly or closely by a window. LOL 😆🫣🫨 Thanks for sharing, Lesley! 🙂🐦
❤
I love Inky.
God bless y'all folks for taking care of God's beautiful creation
If I could credit any "beautiful creation" with god, they would be the likes of the ebola virus, the brain eating amoeba, the blood sucking tick...
Aww, it looks like she was scared! Thank you for sharing this super cute clip 😊❤🐦
I've always wondered how birds react to thunder, they are very similar to us it seems :) Thank you for watching😊🐦
@@LesleytheBirdNerd Your very welcome Lesley! 😊
Poor little girl. Thunder bothers some animals more than others. At least she's not getting wet.❤
I'm with mama bird, when I hear thunder cracks I hunker done in my chair.
Thanks Lesley. I don't think scared so much as paying a little extra attention to make sure there was no threat. Cheers.
She's all snug and safe! ❤🐦
Aww, Inky looked so startled.
Aww. Inky thankfully is safe 🙏 I hope Philbert is okay
Chickadees are such pleasant song birds. I bet she was thinking sweet peeps to calm herself down.
Hang in there, Inky! 👍❤
Inky hunkering down wondering if Philbert will be bringing any snacks 😊
I've put up a tiny house, the chickadees have used now 3years in a row and just finished their second brood this summer
Time to hunker in the bunker!
Ha! Inky quickly hunkered down over her little nest of pre-hatched babies! She's such a seriously protective mother....an excellent example to all! Thank you, Lesley! Oh, that humans would cherish their little ones, pre born and born. What a wonderful world this would be! Inky is amazing. Thank you again, Lesley so much! Shalom. 🌩🌧🌦💜🕊💜
I found a video yesterday of some Grackles getting startled by a very large clap of thunder! I just about jumped out of my chair when it happened. Then I went searching through my videos to see if one of the cameras caught it. While I was watching the one, I just about jumped out of my chair again because it was so loud on camera and I didn't know which video would be the one lol! I love how Inky hunkers down and does the cute little Inky Blinks!
Awesome! I'm glad you have some of that. It's so fun getting glimpse of the ways birds react to behave to things like that. By the way, I love how you called it, "little inky blinks" :)
She looked like she was getting cozy like I do when I hear the rain n thunder.. I love it😊
So cute. Thunder is scary.
Little bird is like " Nice, I can just fluff up, hunker down and take a nap."
I looked like that recently, when a loud rumbling thunder hit over head. Thanks for share all the little charms of Inky.
She did look frightened poor thing.❤
The ruffled feathers are so cute!!
Aw, that's cute!
She's an excellent mother and a very cute little ball of fluff.
She just snuggles in and lets it ride
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS 🥰🥰🐦
Thank you ☺🐦
That's a nice little house you've got for her! She looks very secure! Thanks for sharing!
Chickadees are so adorable
The opportunity to watch this behind the scenes show is the best. Thank you Lesley.
I'm so happy you enjoy watching :) Thank you, too
Cutest birds in the world. ❤
Oh, how cute 💕 Good that she's inside the bird 🐦 house 🏡
Chika dee is my favorite bird! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video 🥰❣️
An absolute cutie
I love her and that's final. 💜
The big video that drops after the babies fledge needs to be at least an hour long and filled with these moments please!
My gosh, I've never done an hour-long video before. I think with everything I've witnessed with Inky and Philbert this nesting experience though, it might be possible, or at least close. I'm in the writing stages of it right now and there's a lot to cover. :) We will probably be doing a couple versions too, one with narration and maybe one without.
I mean who doesn’t get scared by thunder sometimes especially when you are outside
She put in a little green lawn
Upside down Jack Johnson. If I had to guess that’s Leslie’s favorite song. My wishes of course, in the moment.
What a beautiful, dry nest box! I have BC chickadees here in central VA and so love them. After the early spring nesting, one of the pair became week and hung around the water bowl for a few days then vanished. So sad. Do they mate for life? Will other find another mate? It comes to the feeder...alone.
I also monitor bluebirds here and this spring a rogue male attacked the male and the resident male was killed as he vanished, never to return. At this point the female had laid four eggs and had begun incubating. The rogue male returned, saw the eggs in the box, and I hoped it would stick around. Nope, he was a good time Charlie and never helped feed the four chicks that hatched. I bought live mealworms and rigged up a private feeder for the female, as I knew she could not support all four. Then, I checked the nest and found an infestation of blowfly in the box. I created a new nest and put the chicks on that, but by the time they fledged, the box was infested again. I even have a riser under the nest and use diatomaceous earth to help kill blowfly larvae, but nada. Any suggestions Lesley?
Bless her! 🙏
Leslie, you are a treasure. Thank you for all your videos.
Aww thank you :)
Poor baby...she was scared..😢❤
😊 very cute!
Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Thank you for the kind support :)

You're welcome 😊
Aaah! ❤❤❤
❤ poor girl
Chickadees trying to not be cute: challenge impossible
Hi Lesley. I just very recently subscribed. Could you please give us a video about the Western Meadowlark? I grew up in northern Wyoming...lots of sagebrush and fence posts. Great habitat for the meadowlark. And I think the song of the Western Meadowlark is just wonderful. I'd love to hear what you would say about this bird. Thank you.
She probably knows it's a potential lightning strike on a tree or a windstorm. A walk through the woods might reveal just how often that lightning strikes our countryside.
Looks like she was turning eggs when it hit? Great clip!
👍🌹❤️👍
She has her fur and wood electrical insulation installed.
poor lil guy lol
Same way I'd react!
Well, that's that, and then thee ae the fireworks which are quite a nuisance, too.
Thunder brings lightening. Lightening can strike trees, wires water. I'm sure that lil bird was praying, not my tree , not my tree.
I wonder if static is electricity can mess with a birds on board (instinct) radar??
Great videos Lesley. I have a question for you. I feed crows uncooked unsalted peanuts. I recently saw a crow calling to another crow in the distance that I couldn't see. The crow in the distance called, "caw caw caw" in a 1-2-3 cadence, what they do when I feed them and they are alerting other birds that there is food. The crow nearest to me was calling caw caw (pause) caw. They did this half a dozen times or more. The crow nearest me always delayed noticeable before the third caw. What I'm wondering is, is this intentional, and is it a way of asking the other crow (who isn't pausing in its 3 caws) if there is food there. Have you ever witnessed this? If you have, did you ever figure out what the delay means, if anything? I'd be surprised if it was meaningless. They're so smart. I've both seen and heard crows doing other bird calls twice, two different birds! I was amazed, I kept looking for a bird other than a crow in both cases, and there wasn't one, then I watched the crows and verified they were doing bird calls! So smart! You have a great channel, I stopped giving birds bread because of you. Cheers.
I’ve never understood why they don’t adapt to stay in nest boxes in all bad weather situations even outside of nesting season…
NOT YOU CALLING HER MAMA BIRD T.T I can't believe she's gonna have babies soooo. There aren't any eggs yet though right? I've been keeping up and watching every Inky video. But her nest looks so good! All that hard work paid off fighting with those woodchips!
A very human reaction. You hear thunder you get under some cover!
Any updates on Inky?
It breaks my heart when I see tornadoes destroy forests and thousands of trees. These poor little creatures most likely do not survive 😢. Same with the forest fires, it hurts when I think about it. All the animals, humans killed. I just don’t know how a bird can survive winds produced by the tornadoes.
🤍🖤
Philberttttttt !!!!! Did you eat those peas again - and get the farts ??? !!!
