Yes alot of ppl dont know this. Ppl got worse after they started azt treatments. I tell ppl this and they look so surprised. It was a very horrible medication but was all they had at the time. So sad😢 RIP TOM HE DIED 3 MNT AFTER THIS INTERVIEW.
@@MistressKarma6969AZT is still used. Just at a much lower dose and in combination with other antiretrovirals. It’s given to babies born from positive mothers to prevent seroconversion. And it works, it’s a beautiful miracle that babies can be born negative and kept negative by a drug with such a history. It was used so very wrong in the beginning, but regardless, until it could be combined with the drugs created in 1996, it does not matter what dose, it would not have helped someone with HIV.
@@lepanhmaninterferon is still used in medicine today, it saves lives. I feel like medicine was trying to throw everything it could to try and save AIDS patients, but they got it so wrong.
Wonder where the kid and "wife" are now? Does anybody think about them at all? He seems like a very nice guy & didn't deserve to die. Just wish people would think more about what's best for the child before bringing one into situations like this. Even though he didn't know he had it at the time, he knew it was a possibility. He had no romantic relationship with the child's mother & it feels like they were just doing this for themselves with no thought for the child. They could've just as easily contracted it as not.
You know what,? My father is an abusive prick. He emotionally, and verbally and psychologically abused me all my life, and even now tries to gaslight me all the time, Id rather have a loving, kind, empathic man who was Gay who LOVED me than some evil so called straight man who I have.
I bet you that his daughter Jessica doesn't think he was being selfish. Both Dr Waddell and his wife were both professional adults who wanted a baby. She grew up in a community of love.
@@thatgirl9759 but he knew he was going to die early, and he still did it. Very very selfish of him. You can't be a dead father that's there for your kid. Shame on him
I am glad this footage of him exist what a beautiful and gentle soul RIP 🙏
What a wonderful man. I am sure that his daughter, wherever she now lives, is proud of him.
"She's an adult now"..
I read Tom's Wiki.
Dr. Tom Waddell lived 100 different lives in one.
Now that is one interesting man!
Tom died July 11, 1987. His final words were "Well, this should be interesting"
That’s a way to look at it isn’t it
Wow what a indescribable statement intriguing
So he went down very quickly then.
Tom Waddell was probably initially infected with HIV in 1976.

I would have loved to have met him. He was such an amazing human and had a quite a successful life with the time he had.
I agree, he was amazing…
I thank you so much for posting this, for keeping his memory alive and for sharing this important history
Such a most beautiful man
Those presenters at the end are such compassionate men in such an uncompassionate time.
absolutely agree, they are Dick Schaap (1934-2001) and Hugh Downs (1921-2020)
Wow I didn't know Hugh Downs died 😢
Hope Jessica is doing fine, so sorry for her loss, hope she had more than 1 year with her father.
What a strong person he is
Tom's partner at the time looked like he was suffering the worst with AIDS.
Another wonderful precious person gone too soon. We can't help wondering what would have been. At this time of filming he had only 3 months to live.
he died some weeks later, very strange as he looks fit and in health
They did talk about lung infections that almost killed him last winter?
Great video ♥️
The Little girl is around 38 now.

"an indefatigable defender of human rights"
What's so sad is that the Azt killed him faster. It probably excellarated his symptoms and shaved years off his life. So sad.
