    Besides all the dumb stuff he’s done the main reason he should be gone is it doesn’t sounds like he enjoys broadcasting the game. Would it kill him to enjoy broadcasting the game he’s suppose to love.

      @@FutureZek Here's the kicker. Canes management gave Forslund and his analyst this option. Work a per game rate broadcasting Canes game. That per game rate is based on team revenue. So Forslund pay would nose dive. The analyst re-signed. Forslund to cover The NHL playoffs for NBC as a freelancer. He's a free agent.

    I mean, he did assume players didn’t want to be with their families, he assumed players were faking injuries, and he also described the empty arena using the words of “Its like a women’s hockey game”.
    I also LOVE when he trashes good players or bad trades, because, Mike, you can’t really say anything about bad trades, and you don’t know what a good player is because you trade them before you know they are good.

      Luckily the only reasonable time to have implemented 3v3 OT or shootout has come and gone now that we're down from 24 teams playing and like 20 games in both locations per day. The chances of an early game affecting a later one is lower and lower with each concurrent round.

    • @1bert719
      @1bert719 4 роки тому

      Shootouts allow poor teams to win without playing. Watch football (soccer) and teams can set out to defend from the kickoff rather than compete and still win. Portugal won the 2016 European championship with this mentality (among others). It's terrible for the sport and rewards low skilled but well drilled teams.

    • @thejoulesthief6841
      @thejoulesthief6841 4 роки тому +1

      Football/soccer PK shootouts are kind of required.The limited substitutions don’t help that the guys on the pitch can’t rest and continue playing. And the area that needs to be covered is gigantic compared to hockey where end to end to play take huge distances of sprinting. Important games in football/soccer HAVE to end that way for those two reasons.
      Hockey playoffs should play OTs since there’s *at least* a little rest and shorter distances. And because it’s completely fun to watch.

      Same here. It was funny until you learn what's actually happening and what the long term impact is - especially from getting back out there one shift later and getting knocked around even more. I don't have any sympathy for Milbury or any other old timer who gets aroused over injuries... 16 years old I took an elbow to the head that knocked me out cold. I sat on the bench and missed a couple shifts and then went right back out there. I was praised for it, for being tough and I felt proud of it. Knowing what we know now, that's no longer toughness, that's lunacy. If they're "a product of their time" then how come our attitudes can change? These dinosaurs they need to get the axe.

He got a boring personality, his voice is tiresome to listen to, he's so middle of the road in any aspect where you could have scored a point. Personally, the best thing he's ever done is being incompetent by trading Spezza and Chara to Ott for Yashin. Slight comedic factor.
    He has no qualities that makes me say; Yeah but he's funny.... he got insight in.... I can appreciate his.... he's great at....
    Though this last incident is barely offensive imo.

    Dear Shannon
    Iron sharpens iron. Let men be men. Calling an man a girl should be insult. We watch modern sports because gladiators in the Colosseum is bit a bit too Roman. Fighting should be more encourage in hockey. Nobody goes to a hockey game and says "Gee willickers I hope there isn't a fight tonight." I remember minor league game I went to and a little girl sitting behind me was yelling " Fight. Fight Fight." the whole game. Most of the ticky tacky penalties called now should be removed. You want to earn a million dollars or more year take a dang hit. If I want to watch fancy lads the NFL is about to begin again.
    Heck when I heard about the bubble and not letting anyone in my first thought was their legs will be better because there won't be any women around. Lets just see what happens when the families do arrive for the finals.
    Your own dislike of the shootout is from the watering down of real hockey. Why is that ok but insults to manhood isn't?
    Yours Truly

    I completely agree with Milbury getting heat for the comments on injuries and penalties being ridiculous and, for lack of a better term, outdated. I'm not a fan of him myself, but now after changing how I see things, I'm not bothered enough to want him off the air - same applies to Pierre McGuire. I don't know entirely how to feel about the backlash for those recent comments. In this case you have some people who claim to be forward and progressive who just see what he says in one phrase and run with it, and you also have people who bring up similar comments from his past as proof that he won't change or be understanding. I'm not saying to not bring up what he's previously said, I'm just trying to understand and talk about the situation from this one specific comment. From what I've understood, because I'm now trying to assume the good intentions in all people, he was referring to the players not being distracted by outside circumstances to play their best and used women as an example. I laughed since I've seen it first hand, and you've brought up that it's everywhere in Juniors, Shannon, and you're right. From what I've seen, sometimes it can start as early as U16s. Point being there is that I see it too and understand what you're talking about. Now this is where I'm going to be tough on this generation's social progress, and I know it's not everyone, so if you know this is not you, then I'm not talking about you. I did not participate in the drinking, marijuana, and tinder dates that my teammates did, because I focused on improving my hockey skills, and I still have that focus. Why do I bring that up after saying I'll be tough on society? It was and is not worth my time to improve my skills AND snitch ALL my teammates for having fun and not bettering themselves at hockey. I let them be. That should be ok and over with, but watch some call me apart of the problem, which has happened. I don't want to be authoritative with people because I would hate for someone to control my life and my choices. Let people make their own choices, face consequences, and think on their own. People want to be left alone, especially if you assume the good in everyone. Like you said too Shannon, petitions do nothing. In this case, it's NBC's decision, and it doesn't matter if it was influenced by the outrage or not. This is why I'm not bothered by those recent comments, how he and guys like Pierre are on air, and with the Junior Hockey culture I've witnessed.

I love this game and I spend a lot of time and money to keeping up with NHL from Europe. And when the level of conversation is on level like this on the broadcasts (and thousands times worst online among the fans), it really feels like that people are constantly trying to tell you that this sport is not for you. And it must be even more frustrating to be a woman who actually works in hockey or hockey media. Shannon, I'm still watching NHL playoffs (my Blackhawks are out) and have 2 teenage daughters who have NHL as their favorite league/sport. How is Mike Millbury allowed to be one THE Faces of the NHL and the most interesting commentator available? He wasn't a legend as a player or as a coach. His commentary is dull and sophomoric; doesn't add any quality to intermission analysis. [[Period Intermission offers fans 2 important things: BATHROOM BREAK and key insights that average or novice fans may have missed about the previous period.]] Never been a fan of Millbury, since the rip at Roenick crying over 2010 Blackhawks Cup win. (Patrick in Chicago)

  • @RangersGirlJackie99
    @RangersGirlJackie99 4 роки тому

    Lemme preface this by saying I'm a Rangers fan and hate Milbury as a hockey player/coach/personality/etc, BUT
    1) No one who played "back in the day" liked Crosby in 2012 (or any time for that matter), pretty sure he's not the only one who said something like that, and tbh he's right anyway. I mean, Crosby says he's going to stop taking cheap shots because he's getting cheap shots back and won't fight? Why should players not hit him just because he was trying to save face?
    2) Literally the same thing as 1 - old school guys are gonna say old school shit; PK IS a clown - so, what's new?
    3) He said that after Voynov's original charge from 2015 got dismissed, 3 years AFTER he had to leave the country because of it. There was no evidence against him and the only reason he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor was because he was a Russian international (probably didn't trust the US court system), he'd already gotten paid, had two cups, and he would be able to just leave to play in Russia without going through the deportation process. He wasn't banned from the Olympics in 2018 and got a gold medal there, so what does that say about the legitimacy of the (dismissed) "charges"? God knows they'll ban you for anything. Dude's probably the best defenseman in the KHL, a 2 time cup champion, holds the King's record for most playoff goals by a d-man in one season, and still no one will sign him because of some charge that got dismissed from years ago, what about that isn't an "unfortunate incident"?
    4) Yeah, why not? How many commentators have said something along the lines of, "If he's gonna get a soft penalty, he might as well get his time's worth"?
    5) Oh no, someone who played in the Canadians-only-club days doesn't like Europeans?! No way!! Come on... Again, far from the first person to say stuff like that.
    6) Imagine if we let the fans decide everything with "petitions"...
    I give this incident a 0/10. People are so damn sensitive, it's getting out of hand...

    I never comment on here but hey, it's Mad Mike so I feel inspired...How can NBC still be defending Milbury is beyond me. Sedin twins = Thelma&Louise (implies women are weak/bad, etc.. also it is a goddamn movie about women getting abused, seeing no alternative and ending up killing themselves = for Mike, that is material to make fun of... WTF). Hey Mike, ever thought of the impact such comments have on women's hockey? probably not (he has a daughter, must be nice for her)... Mike also applauds a headshot from Crosby on Subban, tells the player who is probably the best goal scorer of all time, Ovi, to ''man-up'' (WTF)... I cannot verify all the quotes I found on a reddit thread, but some are totally horrendous and the few I've checked were definitely said by Mike, here is a sample (I am paraphrasing): when you slash, try to break bones...when you hit from behind, give him a concussion... I would hurt Corey Perry in a permanent way... Last one is a threat and actually a crime... His commentary is usually terrible and he was a total disaster as GM with the Isles (he could be the worst GM of all time), but he keeps failing upwards and finding people to employ him. Are we surprised that a guy who thought climbing into the stands to beat up a fan who stole a hockey stick and threw a magazine at his teammate's face has a bad moral compass? (I know, there was a paper cut on his teammate's face...definitely warrants beating the guy with his own shoe while he is being restrained by a cop). If I did that, I'd have a criminal record, he has a job at NBC... He was charged with assaulting a 12 years old boy at a pee-wee game (charges were later dropped). He is also a total hypocrite, he had no issues thrashing John Scott's All-Star's participation even though he included Chris Nilan and Brian Skrudland instead of Kirk Muller and Guy Lafleur in his 1991 Wales conference team (he was the coach of that team and the board of governors had to change the rules for selecting players cause of Mike's antics). He should start a podcast with Roenick... How many Stanley Cups do these 2 douchebags have? yeah, none... And now, let's remember the majestic Yashin contract, his comments on Dipeitro being wayyy superior to Luongo and have one last good laugh at this abject douchebag clown cause he won't be on NBC tonight (FINALLY!)...Please NBC, just don't pull him out the air, FIRE HIM NOW (unless you wan to try a few more years with him, like the Isles, and see how that goes...)

    I genuinely do not understand the logic in these comments. There is well-earned, overwhelming disdain for this dude, complete with a long history of just being bad for the game of hockey. He's encouraged players being injured, downplayed obvious serious injuries, sounds absolutely miserable to be broadcasting games (which when stacked with the actual passion of Boucher and Forslund is extra staggering), and is typically flat-out wrong in analyses and color, but because of this comment NOW people are rushing to say he's being cancelled.
    This isn't cancel culture; this dude sucks at his job, and clearly NBC was, just like with HNIC and Don Cherry, looking for an excuse to get rid of him. You don't think they have a damage control and social media team reading comments and threads during games? They do. They got their excuse. The thing is it seems as though the NHL coverage in America is not taken as seriously (gets less ratings/coverage compared to the other major sports leagues) as compared to Canada. Therefore one can make the assumption that NBC doesn't take certain comments made by thier employees in this case former disgraced New York Islanders's HC/GM and former late 70's/early 80's Boston Bruin player turned HC Mike Milbury seriously. Let alone the quality of the coverage done by the network (night and day compared to NBA on TNT). I am still unsure of the "standards" set by NBC when JR got fired for what he said (he has since tried to sue NBC for wrongful dismissal and discrimination based on sexual orientation) yet Milbury has said plenty of things that would normally get anyone fired.

    I can’t stand Milbury. He is always criticizing certain teams giving them shade and often promoting other teams. Very subjective.

    He’s as bad a hockey commentator as he is a coach/gm.

    Mike Milbury is just a sour guy. I've never liked him. When he was on Hockey Night in Canada, they repeatedly showed him climbing into the stands and beating a fan with his own shoe until Milbury didn't want to be there anymore. Showing that clip reveals him as the clown he is and discredits him as some sort of guardian of the integrity of the game. NBC should just do what the CBC did.
    I'm all for hockey being a rough sport and the NHL keeping it that way. If you don't like contact sports, watch golf. But nobody deserves to be injured, or cheapshotted (not a word, I know) for their behavior on the ice. If they break the rules, they should be disciplined by the league officials. If they act like a "clown", hit them clean and hard when you get a chance, or call them out and drop the gloves. Rough does not mean vicious.
    Domestic violence is not "unfortunate" or "just how it is". It's illegal for a reason, because it's immoral. It's wrong. It's assault of a person who should be able to trust you implicitly, in your home where you should feel safe. And it's not just man-on-woman violence either. Men get assaulted by their female partners too, which is also wrong.

    If there were two people on NBCSN that is ruining hockey in the US, it’s Milbury and Pierre. No one likes these guys. No one wants to watch these guys. People see them on and they turn it off. Now I do feel bad for Pierre. His hockey knowledge is BRILLIANT. He is just not fit for television

    Haha you should’ve read what Russian mainstream media thought about Voynov’s bad day. Imagine milbury saying: ‘Who is that woman?’, ‘what did she do in the past?’ ‘Is American justice too invasive in personal matters?’

    I'm not a NA-citizen, so I've never heard him call a full game - but from what I've heard he should be out. Put into comparison with others who have been fired, he's right up there
    Edit: Also, there's quite the famous interview with a Swedish player saying pre-game "If we score more than them, we're going to win"
