It is imperative that flying testbeds for the engines are locally available as well to cut down on development span.
So what I am able to understand is that the technology for Kaveri was already developed, and now it is a matter of building it with better parts. So is it possible that while this is being done, GTRE can improve the Kaveri engine to an equivalent of GE F414? If all goes well, we could have indigenous engines powering LCA Mk2 and TEDBF

@@AlphaDefenseHindi Yeah right now it is competing with the 404 (not there yet) but I believe we should start working on improving the core tech in parallel. In 5 years if Kaveri is able to replace 404, by that time we will have enough ground work for developing an equivalent of 414.

Its a step in right direction...but in future Tejas Mk1/1As will need higher thrust engines because 5-8 years down the line many newer electronics or upgrades might be added to those aircrafts, which in turn will need higher power than currently used engines, otherwise there might not be enough upgrade potential...after this 80kn design is successfull GTRE must try to upgrade this or try a new core for 90-100kn (with afterburner) engine...apart from Tejas re-engine requirement, this 80kn design might also be used in Marut Mk2 design which was shown earlier by HAL/DRDO

It seems that endurance is something that is never discussed here. Last report of Kaveri also notified problems when it went over Mach 1.
I am not an expert on gas turbine design, but, I think the way to develop a predictable and reliable engine would require an agile methodology instead of Waterfall and agile would require frequent testing with predictable outcomes and small steps.

Some of Godrej's test unit , after successful dry thrust trials would be equipped with a lighter afterburning section , already in development by GTRE and that would be tested in Bharat itself on Sukhoi test bed .
Due to being developed for Ghatak UCAV, the Godrej units are already lighter than the actual Kaveri - fitting it with a state of art afterburner has the possibility of making it even better than the GE F404.
Private contractors are very fast in developing trial units, they employ IIT pass outs and highest rank holders in engineering as supervisor - there is no import lobby to hinder them using vampanty unions.

Now Indian Defense Forces and Ministry must understand that no country is gonna give us state of the art technologies for our defense needs. We ourselves have to develop them. So, R&D must not stop due to budget issues. Govt. Must ensure an uninterrupted budget for our hi-tech defense needs. Else, we are never gonna be independent for our defense needs. Also, these technologies have various civil uses and pay back the development cost in multiples.

R&D expenses are deducted from revenues before taxes are calculated, so I'm not sure this would change anything.

My question is why can't we develop a twin engined version of the Tejas fighter. We will get 80+80=160 kN thrust. But thrust to wt ratio will go down. Which can be offset by a lighter payload?

@@lightyagami5483 Godrej so far has only been interested in taking the tech from ISRO and DRDO and manufacturing those products. One positive step we've seen recently is HAL-L&T-Godrej consortium formation that has now won the contract to built and launch all future PSLV rockets. But overall Godrej is lightyears away from the kind of R&D titans like GE do. Not just Godrej, most large Indian industry conglomerates have minimal in-house R&D. They aren't at all ambitious about in-house R&D. Hyper risk averse. Indian startups like Pixxel and QuNu labs are doing an order of magnitude more than them in R&D. And then DRDO, ISRO and BARC are in a league of their own. Nobody else in India comes close to them.
