My wife and I are having our first child in February. Just want to say thanks for talking about your experiences so openly and scaring the shit out of me. No but seriously thank you we know plans always change and it’s important to remember that. But if you have a healthy family at the end of it, it’s all worth it. Much love!
My son was born 3 months early, spent that entire time in the NICU, on his projected birthday was when we finally got to take it home. It was eaily one of the hardest things ive ever been through. My sons 2 now and doing great, congrats Kev!
So glad everything is okay Kevin! My wife had to do an emergency c-section as well, and she was in the ICU for 3 days. Most terrifying week of my life. Nothing prepares you for all the things that can happen.
So glad to hear both that Henry and Paula are doing well, but also these men speak so openly about the difficulties their partners had during childbirth (again, in Greg's case). So much of this process feels either woefully under-discussed and/or romanticized; it's good to hear people speak about these, no doubt traumatic but still to some degree common, occurrences directly, so as to spread more awareness. Especially along men. Would love to have Gen & Paula do a special Kinda Hunnies episode speaking together about their pregnancies, if and when they feel up to it! 🩷
Welcome back kevin !!! U were missed greatly .. love hearing the 1st born stories and the keeping track of every little detail( poops , feedings etc) ... its so different by your 3rd 😅
KEVIN IS BACK! Excited for this. Being a dad is the greatest thing that's ever happened in my life but I still wouldn't tell anyone else to do it. Excited to hear how it's been for him so far!
Family members who want you to have kids: "Oh babys are great, carrying, giving birth, having those moments is all just so beautiful!" Every story of everyones actual birth: "OMFG THIS IS TRAUMATIZING!"
Briths go either way: it's either the easiest thing possible (easy for a birth, just to be clear cuz every birth is hard is on it's way), or the most traumatizing shit every, like "yeah, my wife lost 3l of blood, but she is doing fine now"
Congrats, Kevin! My son is 6 months old and we had a similar experience. Emergency C-Section, then trouble breathing and he swallowed some fluid so they were worried about infection so he spent about a week in the NICU. Thank you for being so open about your experience. Nothing can prepare you for that stress. As I talk about it, I'm learning it's more common than I thought and I wish someone had told me that as it was happening. It's unfortunate how traumatic it can be. I'm so happy to have my son but the idea of going through that (or worse) again has made me and my wife strongly consider not having another child. Thank you for spreading awareness so future parents can be better prepared!
Can’t even imagine 54 hours. My wife and I experienced just 17-18 hours and it was absolutely ABYSMAL for all parties involved particularly wifey (also had to revert to an emergency C section). So happy to hear he’s home and happy with you guys.
Listening to this sitting up with my 5 week old who went through a complicated birth as well. So sorry you guys had to go through that, Kevin! Glad everyone is ok!
Damn Kev, it sounds like you 2 went through a LOT during this, and even though shit got scary you held through and stayed strong for both Paula and your new baby boy. Congratulations again Big dawg; youre gonna be a phenomenal father ❤
My wife gave birth 2 weeks ago and we had a very similar experience to Kevin and Paula, thank you for this podcast it's a form of therapy after a trauma.
Kevin and Greg, thank you for sharing your stories, I feel like too many times we're able to share the happy stories around the birth of our kids but not many negative ones. My wife an I also had a traumatic experience for our daughter. My wife's water ruptured at week 34 and she had to be admitted to the hospital to try and give birth. After 14 hours, it was determined that she would need a c-section as well. When they made the call, the nurses and doctors seemed frantic and they grabbed her and wheeled her away while another nurse threw me scubs and told me "if you want to be there, put these on and get in there now!". The main issue was that during thier rush, my wifes epidural ripped out so she went from feeling nothing to EVERYTHING. I walk in and I see her cut open and her just screaming. I run to her side and I'm freaking out as well. After a few minutes, my daughter was out but also was not breathing or crying. They held her up for my wife to see and my wife looked at her for a few seconds and then passed out. At which point, I'm panicking as I don't know who to attend to, my wife who passed out or my newborn daughter that wasn't crying or breathing. The clinicians ended up taking her away where she did end up breathing but she was born at just under 4lbs and spent 2 weeks in the Level 2 NICU and 1 week in Level 1 NICU. 12 years later, she's perfectly healthy with no issues and we are truly thankful. But at that point my wife and I decided that it was too risky to try for a second child. Thank you both again for sharing your stories as it's helped me deal with it as well. Those memories will be etched into my brain forever. ❤
My wife and I had an absolutely mad scramble when we went to deliver our daughter. It was a super scary 12 hours between getting admitted and her being born but even after that there was about an hour post birth where they had to work on her in the NICU before we were all clear. She stayed in the NICU for a week because she was born at 35 weeks but she’s healthy and almost 2 now. Glad everything wound up being Ok for Kev, Paula and baby C.
Google photos made a "they grow up so fast" video last week for my 3 year old daughter. It had me and my wife in tears. The time absolutely flies by, soak it all in Kevin, congratulations.
As someone considering the idea of kids, the 1st 30min of this episode = trauma. Mad respect for the KFBF dads/moms out there P.S. Really missed Kev dog
Couple of observations: - births are so romanticized ("it's beautiful, a miracle", I mean yeah...) that when you live one, you realize how strong and brutal of an experience it can be. - health services in the US sound kinda funky. - It's crazy that humans didn't evolve in a way that gave birth in a smoother, safer way. I'm glad baby and mama Coello are both doing great :)
Such a great podcast. I’ve always wanted to be a father, and this is truly terrifying and heart breaking. Even when all turned out well for both of these kindafunny families. Hard not to get emotional just listening to this.
Greg please teach your child how to sit still for long periods of time! Snacks are great for this but he can not be one of those kids in highschool who can’t sit still during a movie. Please oh please
I wish that the amount of caffeine in a Coca-Cola did it for me, I regularly intake at least 500 mg of caffeine, alongside my ADHD meds and I feel like I'm neeeever as hyped up as Greg gets. Just astonishing
I've heard so many more horror stories about pregnancy and birth than nice, smooth ones. Glad Gen, Paula, Ben, and Henry are all healthy and doing well now, but man... Fucking traumatic.
Congrats Kevin. In my experience I have the suspicion that a lot of these C-sections are done so that the hospital can get another check from the insurance companies for said C-section. But maybe that's just me.
Seriously missed Kevin's laughter SO much. Congratulations Big Kev Daddy! 🤘🏻🖤
100%!

It’s crazy that of all the advances we’ve done in modern medicine, child birth is still very dangerous
Congrats Kevin and Paula!

If Tim wants to talk about SF architecture, they should reach out to 99% invisible and get Roman Mars into the studio to chat

Missed Kev!!
The People's Court is still on air Greg 🤣
(21:50) America as a whole prioritizes the health of the baby, while most other countries prioritize the health of the mother.
Whoooooo! Kevin
KEVIN IS BACK !!
and he is dad !! congrats to you and your family sir.
Proud of Greg waiting over 20 minutes before making it about his birth process that we've heard before

Congrats Kevin. In my experience I have the suspicion that a lot of these C-sections are done so that the hospital can get another check from the insurance companies for said C-section. But maybe that's just me.
Very strange we had all this political content leading to the election, and now zero talking about the results.
Imagine your team wins the Superbowl and a month later being online complaining how no one is talking about the NFL.
