I watched it live back then. It was amazing. He didn't do candid interviews like that. No one knew anything about him personally unlike now when everyone knows what famous people do from putting their make up on, what they do in the bathroom, Instagram stories of them in bed, slurping food, and drinking etc etc. It was a totally different culture for celebrities then. They were more enigmatic and less obsessed with taking pictures of themselves or letting the world into their lives etc. For Michael to do the interview at Neverland it was like seeing the Wizard of Oz! Looking back on the interview it still is interesting but bittersweet because of the allegations. He totally wasnt a paedophile but he often didn't do himself any favours in interviews as he sometimes came across more weird in trying to open up as he either never explained himself clearly, was interrupted by the interviewer, or they edited him to look weird. Hard to explain unless you lived through it, but I remember it all like yesterday. I taped the Oprah and Primetime interviews off the TV back in the 90s. I've still got them in a box somewhere.
Yeah he wouldn't be able to exist today with the way social media is. He lived in a time where celebrities were more allowed to be at least a little enigmatic. He started to get a taste of the current celebrity culture in the late 2000s which I'm sure he was hating it and he would've hated it even more if he was alive today. I don't think it's possible for him to be crucified more than he was but he just might've been more crucified in today's world for being so private. But at the same time, since everyone wants to act so woke and suddenly like celebrities deserve privacy, would the world be more understanding and accept his privacy? We'll never know.
I lost all respect for Oprah. She saw how incredible he was, when he helps children, when he creates his music. It's disgusting how she turned her back on him. She's a 🐍 Michael was incredibly self conscious. His own dad took the piss out of his face. So what if he had plastic surgery or whatever? Nowadays, ppl use plastic surgery to look like animals!! I don't see anyone complaining about that!! His face, his choice 🤷🏻♀️
This interview made Oprah's career. She was pretty much a nobody at this stage, except a typical talkshow host. Now she's trying to use him for ratings again.
She wasn’t exactly a “nobody”, but he elevated her status on a global scale after this interview. Now, what is true is that she has disgustingly taken advantage of him and his family for ratings ever since, and for that, the Jacksons no longer associate themselves with her, understandably.
Well at that time, he only had his nose and chin done, which he wrote in his book. He looked the same throughout the 90s until he had a facelift sometime in 1999 which is why he looks different from then on. People sometimes forget how big of an effect skin color can have on a person looks, plus he always changed his hairstyle and makeup. And of course he got older as well.
That’s what I always say if your skin change and you have few surgeries on face plus the aging process you aren’t gonna look the same as you did 15 years 25 years ago
There was no face lift in 1999...where did you come up with this?? Also in my opinion he looked almost the same between 1986 and 2009, the only differences being vitiligo, makeup, weight loss and aging. I mean during the 2009 This Is It rehearsals, he looked just like the Dangerous era, just older and like a 50 year old man.
Oprah was rude and unprofessional, I mean we should've all seen it coming when she did what she did last year. The questions about him being a virgin, his love life, the fact that she had to keep noting that he was abused which he seemed uncomfortable talking about and just how she really stretched out those questions about the rumors when he just wanted to clear it up real quick and move on to the more important questions about his music (which she barely touched on). The virgin question though, don't even get me started. That's something no interviewer should EVER ask but of course no one looks at Michael Jackson like he's human which is frustrating. He even said in the interview how an artist's craftsmanship is what's most important but she still kept asking the private questions. A snake if you ask me. And yeah when Elizabeth joined him, he definitely was uncomfortable because he just said he wished he proposed to her lolol and he wasn't expecting her to be there. I can imagine it's also uncomfortable when someone is speaking about you right in front of you, I mean how are you supposed to act in that situation? Especially being as humble as MJ, when someone is praising you right in front of you, it has to be uncomfortable. Body language experts here on UA-cam will tell you that and they'll tell you he was a shy, humble, sincere person. But when he was asked if the way he was teased about his nose affected his choice to do his nose, he did say no and that's the only time he wasn't sincere. But he later clarified that in other interviews. Body language experts love him because they can especially see how intelligent and honest he is. But anyways great reaction as always, loved it. Also I see the judgment on your face lol when he said he only changed 2 things on his face. It's true he only did his nose and chin (which he also said in his book). When you change your nose, your whole face is going to look unrecognizable. Especially going from a wide nose to a thin nose. But those cosmetic surgeries stopped in 1986. Then it was the vitiligo, lupus and burn complications that changed him much more, it made him wear tons of makeup and get reconstructive surgeries for the burns on his scalp and the skin lesions that lupus caused on his face. Lupus and the burns also gave him alopecia on his scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes so he was forced to wear wigs and he really had to cake that makeup on to try and look normal. But yes please watch the 1995 Diane Sawyer interview, it's very insightful! Even though Diane Sawyer was even more rude and unprofessional, it's an interesting insightful watch.
While I agree with you with basically everything, one of the reasons he decided to do the interview WAS to clear up the rumors about himself, in fact, he took notes that listed out all the rumors and what he wanted to say about them in preparation for the interview. So he knew they were gonna talk about the rumors beforehand.
@@Hudson112 I'm aware, I even said "he wanted to clear it up real quick and move on". Like I said, she stretched out those questions and barely talked about the music.
