Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty ~ Stop Draggin' My Heart Around 1981 Classic Rock Purrfection Version

- Stevie went all rock and roll for her debut album seeking out friends who could help her establish a separate identity for her outside Fleetwood Mac and she succeeded in spades.
A standout duet with Tom Petty and his band "Stop Draggin My Heart Around" an elegant rock infused ballad that expresses the anger of being played around with letting both singers explain themselves in the song's conversation. Written by Petty and his band for her, it was the first single from Bella Donna. It was not written by Stevie at all but she owns it, like the star she is.
On a side note, the song was the 25th video played on the nascent MTV on August 1, 1981. It also peaked at #3 on the Hot100 and #2 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Weird Al parodied it as "Stop Draggin My Car Around" to which Stevie and Jimmy Fallon sang in a humorous recreation of the original video on the Tonight Show.
She has a great sense of humor!
She turns 75 next month...still amazing. I miss TP.
The 80s were the absolute best decade for music, especially if you were in your 20s. A simpler time when your biggest concern was hoping you wouldn't be leaving the dance club alone. This was one of the best dance songs for helping to figure that out. Sultry as hell!
I never knew that Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks made a song together. However 😜☺️🧩🌺 it sounds great, and of course I just love the music. She is saying 🛑🛑🛑 stop dragging my ❤️💜❤️💜❤️ 🥀🥀🥀😊🥀🌺🥀 heart around. Sounds 👍🥀🌺🥀
Hello Everyone well I wrote about the fact that I never knew that 😃😃 Stevie Nicks and Tom Tom Petty had sung a song together, which I did not. Well I would like to Say Thank You for however you might be, and 🙏 Thanks for reading the comments..🕺🏩💃🔥🔥💥💥💥🐾🐾🥀🥀🥀.
Over 40 years old & this song still hits hard with every generation. Petty & Nick's could have been a Super band to, but no matter which way they went these two are pure gold. The bands superb. The writing of music lyrics, instrimentals. Arrangement, hook, & vocals are all just exquisite classic rock !
Speaking of Tom Petty, "Refugee", "Breakdown", and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" could all use some Purrfection! :)
+1.
Definitely! "You Got Lucky" and "Don't Come Around Here No More", too!
Breakdown for sure. That gets my vote.
Running down a dream
Two legends made an unforgettable Top 40 hit !!!
Their voices are perfect together with this song.
I have loved this song since I was 15. I'm now 57. Thank you DJ Disco 🐈 for posting this 😊
Stevie Nicks is a rock goddess. I don't have Bella Donna, but I do have The Wild Heart; it's just as good. I played the daylights out of it in college (and it's on cassette, so it's amazing that I didn't wear it out completely).
It never hurts to work with Tom Petty, that's for sure!
1981, tout le monde était beau, le reggae fréquentait les punks, le disco faisait tourner la terre entière et le rock quand il était bon ressemblait à cette merveille
Still sounds as good as first time hearing
another great classic from the best decade for music
AMEN Brother!
Sounds for all generation's off song's played in harmony with nature of music.
Yay !! I've been waiting a few years (I put a request in the comments) for DJDiscoCat to work his magic on this very song! Wish Tom and Stevie did more duets...

1981 was one of those years when we finally transitioned out of the 70s and into the 80s. I remembered hearing this song on my way to school starting the fourth grade.

Into the mystic
Stevie was 33 when this Classic came out. "33".......Mmmmmmmmmm, Interesting.
Hey Cat how bout the mix of Burn Rubber by The Gap band . Thanks
I cried the day Mr. Petty transitioned.
Are these mixes available on ITunes?
Great song. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are my absolute favorite band. One minor quibble: Tom/the band did not write the song for Stevie. It was an unfinished demo (you can hear the vocals with just Tom and no Stevie on the TP&HBs "Playback" boxed set.) Jimmy Iovine, the producer for both Petty and Stevie Nicks, was looking for sings to fill out Bella Donna. And he grabbed this one from Tom and Stevie... Well, you know the rest. 👍
And to add to this, Tom Petty did write a song for Stevie, "Insider," which they recorded together for Bella Donna. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon your perspective, he couldn't part with it, and the duet appeared on 1981's Hard Promises.
This songs brings back memories of taking my wife to The Hollywood Bowl as an anniversary present to see Tom Petty in the early 2000s and Stevie Nicks was a special guest. It was the first concert I saw people using cellphones in place of lighters to show appreciation.😂📱🔥❤️
