    Leaning and rotating are simple easy movements that get the job - maybe not as elegant as strict lower/upper separation and skillful leg steering. Maybe the ability to ski both ways would be cool - mix it up a bit ;-)

      @skierpage 5 років тому

      Leaning and rotating don't work at really high speed, don't work in short turns, don't work in bumps, and don't work on steep terrain. But if you only ski moderate groomers and are having a good time, hey enjoy yourself!

    If pole planting is “so essential” why doesn’t bode miller do it when racing ? The clips they have of him from races on here don’t have one pole plant. If it improved his performance, wouldn’t he do it when every 100th of a second counts ?

      @@rickblair5509 These are not pole plants, but mere touches. They use the poles only at the start and then to shield off the gates.

      You gotta understand ski racing is different from regular skiing in the sense that your goal is not to be technically perfect but to have just the right amount of pressure and edging so you can go faster than everyone else. So when it comes to racing, skipping some minor elements of textbook skiing can sometimes give you better results sometimes!

    This is a bad example for regular skiers. Leaning, and rotation by Bode, he can get away with it, regular people can not.

      Bode skis better than you, teaches better than you, you are the one who is mislead regular people, your way of ski are forced movement.

      Whoa cbass! Bode does not normally ski like this. Bode Miller is demonstrating, cooperating with the instructor. Would you not agree that over-rotating like this is a waste of energy and inefficient? There are plenty of reasons to believe that the Harb teaching system of primary movements is a highly effective approach.

      @@karlk9316 I just gave Cbass a thumbs up because I've never liked what Harb is selling. For him to rip Bode who is doing a great job of demonstrating conventional ski technique. Is that what Harb dislikes. I see nothing of what Harald does in a dozen nations Alpine race technique effective or not nobody sees it like Harald and I've known him for 40 years. Most demonstrations should go overboard otherwise we are just looking at another plastic skier so we have agreement on that.

    • @agenthex
      @agenthex 4 роки тому

      @@AlpineMeister Actually top ski racers are doing more or less what Harb teaches, since Harb basically teaches the most fundamental edgelocked ski racing technique. This includes Bode who doesn't ski races anything like what's demonstrated here. The real question is whether teaching ski racing form to mom & pop is worthwhile, because it does require more athleticism or at least athletic awareness than the PMTS material lets on. It looks "easy" in the same way that tiger woods makes a golf swing look easy, but there's a lot of hip mobility and balance etc involved that's left implicit instead of explained.

    Leave the poles at home. You're not gonna need them 99% of the time on usual well groomed slopes.

      Ha! No, keep those poles you will need them especially during shorter radius turns.

      I think Bodie should show more technical of the transition of changes in a turn of motion where you feel like you're about to fall forward but you don't it just adds energy. does anyone know what I mean? Jeff WilderBerry

    Short turns is a very bad... but middle turns is good... During short turns everything is bad: sits in a back rack therefore skis run away forward and become uncontrollable and thereof rows with backs, doesn't cut an arch, and develops skis feet..., internal in general tears off at edge change as in "waited"... And after all he once won in slalom...

      You are standing on the peddles of a bicycle with your hands on the handle bars with the front tire pointing down the hill. Take your weight off the Right foot. Take your weight off the Left foot. Gravity and the ski will do the rest. If you're going too fast, lean against the tongue of your boot to add more weight to the front of the ski, take your weight off the Right foot, lift your Right cheek and set it on the edge of the Right Barstool. Lifting your cheek will keep your upper body vertical and your legs will be at a steep angle so you are hard on the edges and the ski will bend and turn more.
      That, is how you think about skiing. You think the same from beginner to racer.

      Poles work differently depending on the terrain and work as a "TIMING DEVICE" most of the time. When skiing moguls and very steep terrain they become much more instrumental for balance and initiating the turn. For the most part, you learn best if you ski the fall line and make enough turns to control your speed. Shaped skis today make skiing so much easier than in the past; you had to muscle them a whole lot more. If you love skiing and get input from people who ski better tan you; you will advance a whole lot faster. I was a stubborn, proud guy when I was younger and got the lumps to prove it! Happy Landings Folks.

      I used to jam my pole to unweight to help get my long skinny skis to start a turn. It's not necessary these days, Bode could roll right from one turn to the next turn with that forward motion and a change of edges. In addition to everything people mentioned, a pole touch (not plant! stay light) arrests your upper body rotation to keep it facing down the hill, and gets you to reach down the hill so your upper body crosses over your skis. It sets up your upper body while your core and lower body do 90% of the work.
