Nobuyuki Kobayashi's work is very inspirational - even for just looking more closely at nature. I bought the books but I'd love to see some of his prints in person.
i recently got a 2x3 crown graphic from someone on facebook marketplace for $150. shot a few rolls with the singer 6x7 back and its in perfect condition, its now my daily camera, id imagine the 4x5 would be really cool as well.
That Crown is a beautiful camera -- prettier (and newer) than my ca. 1940 Anniversary Speed Graphic. Two lens boards, a 135 Xenar and a 90 mm Angulon is a nice kit. One way to deal with dim ground glass with the f/8 Angulon would be to calibrate the Kalart rangefinder for that lens, and use the ground glass for the Xenar -- then you only need to look at the ground glass through the Angulon for a few minutes while you adjust in the RF, and after that, you can focus it in seconds and never worry about whether you even see the ground glass image. I'll confirm that a Kalart works well; I've got one on my Speed and I've been using it (with the infinity stops set back) for my LomoGraflok (far easier than using the insert, especially since my ground glass is undersize after upgrading to a Graflok back and accidentally winding up with a Polaroid 3x4 focusing panel). I'll get a mask made for the viewfinder to match the LomoGraflok at some point...
That's a great idea to change the focus type when using the 90mm! Never calibrated a Kalart finder before, but this might be a good opportunity to try. Years ago, the shop I work at used to have a drawer full of spare Graflex masks, cams, and miscellaneous parts. Might have to search around for a mask, since using the LomoGraflok is another perk of the Crown Graphic.
@@MatMarrash You'll have to make a custom mask to use with the LomoGraflok because of the offset (up and left in the finder) -- but the tube finder on that Crown is designed for that.
This isn't really a LF question but how fesable is it to project say 35mm negatives onto Cyano-type instead of direct contact printing style. I just started doing film photography and used a 35mm Cannon AE-1 Program I had as a way to get into it without spending much money. And I also started doing some cyanotyping using printed out negatives of pictures i have took with my digital camera and want to try and combine the two.
@@terrywbreedlove I know this as well. (I don't have any film related equipment yet anyways. Was going to build something to try this out.) Like I said I only started trying anything film related recently.
Hey thanks for the question. Is this sort of thing possible? Yes. Is this process typically available and/or feasible? That's an entirely different question. To accomplish this, you would need an enlarger with an incredibly strong light source that's been modified to project only UV light. The light levels needed to make a cyanotype exposure may be enough to damage the negative during the long exposures common to this process. There is a gentleman on the Alternative Process Photography FB groups attempting this, but it is a very expensive endeavor and requires a lot of experimentation since this isn't something that was standardized for 35mm enlarging.

That's a great deal on a solid press camera for shooting roll film. 4x5 offers some added versatility but a lot of heft as well.
