I so glad there is someone out there like you Mat. Every time I consider getting into a 4x5 Intrepid....I just look at all the goodies you have and I feel I can justify getting a toy to play with!!!

RA-4 reversal is a wonderful, though sometimes frustrating, process! I got into film photography right as Cibachrome was discontinued and have been chasing that direct-to-color high ever since.
Thanks for the mention, that video clip you showed was actually about the RFMODULE. That's an optical digital hybrid rangefinder that can be used on basically any camera.
The 45AF is a complete camera system, so its fully integrated into the camera with a motor driven focusing system and single point laser focus.
Both of these systems enable you to calibrate basically infinite amount of lenses into them, while having accurate fully corrected framelines.

@@Nobody-Nowhere As someone that tested the very limited 800T 4x5 years ago, I'd love to see it again but I'll wait until they've improved their film base.
@@Nobody-Nowhere I remember reaching out to Cinestill a couple years ago about 800t 4x5 and asking if they were going to do another run of it. Sadly they had no plans at that time, but maybe sometime in the future.

That Ondu Eiken 4x5 looks awesome. I've been really happy with both Intrepids I've owned, but the Ondu seems like a solid step up in build quality and especially aesthetics :D
Ya know Mat, if you're going for hair impact, find a Van de Graff generator and watch the hair go galactic!! The longer the hair, the better the effect!!!

Glad to hear someone's doing something about lenses! Even if it's a niche one. Everybody wants to build a new camera but lenses and shutters are a bit of a worry for the future...
I didn't want to timestamp a possibly incorrect figure, but the maker of this new Hypergon is hoping the total cost of the new lens is going to be ~ $500, with more modern coatings on the glass!
The new lens thing looks awesome, and 75mm is a focal length I don't have yet so that is promising (currently have 90, 150, and 210 for my 4x5). And the other projects are also something to keep an eye on!
One thing worth mentioning is the f-stop will be quite unreadable on 4x5. It has two settings, f/48 and f/96!
Now a 75mm that covers 8x10 and that isn't a fisheye producing a round image is definitely something interesting, especially if it doesn't have something like 20 elements and weighs 10 pounds!
The only potential downside to such a lens is it won't be up to many of today's standards in terms of enlargement (can be rather soft), but still a marvel of optics design!
The Ondu looks great. I have been saving my pennies to buy a chamonix as an upgrade to my intrepid, however this may be a great value proposition… I am hesitant though after dealing with all the well known intrepid camera gripes. Would hate for the Ondu to end up being the same. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions Matt ? Obviously a bit tricky without camera in hand though ! Thanks.
I can totally understand applying a wait and see approach with a new camera. ONDU knocked it out of the park with their pinhole line, but adding so many moving parts has yet to be seen from them. Despite everything that's happened with Intrepid the impact has still been a net positive.
@@MatMarrash Thanks for getting back to me. I totally agree, the Intrepid was an excellent entry in to the large format world for me, it never once failed me. Funnily enough I stumbled across a Chamonix for sale yesterday and it was on my street ! I took it as a sign and went for it. Thanks again Matt, appreciate everything you do.

After your very good video on Intrepid and the time it took to get some stuff right, don’t you think some reserves should be raised with Ondu as no one ever tried their camera?
I'd prefer to remain neutral-to-positive about something until given reason to be negative. I'm by no means endorsing the product or backing it. If ONDU wants to ship over a 4x10, I'm ready to take it into the field and try to break it. ;)
