It's actually normal mammal behavior. Some groups of humans have just evolved to keep producing the enzyme that breaks down milk. It's just an inherited mutation, although a useful one since it allows us to make use of animal milk and make delicious things like cheese. Edit: to clarify, nursing mammals drink milk from their mothers. Once a mammal is old enough to eat other foods they start to lose the ability to process milk.
