In 1974, I was 12 and it was the first time i put together a Topps set. I think wax packs were 15 cents and cellos were 25 cents. Got within 3 or 4 cards of completing the set trading and flipping with my friends. The Johnny Bench auto card brings back memories. I am a big Yankee fan and loved Thurman but Bench is the GOAT.
I was 11 and this also was one of 1st sets I put together
I was 13 and that was also the first set I collected at 10 cents a pack. I completed the set and in the early 90's sold it for $650. Sure wish I still had it. In 1975, packs went up to 15 cents and I was thinking more about fixing up my dads 1968 Chevelle Malibu with headers, mags, etc. than buying cards.
I'm with U, man. I was 13, I started in early 1972. Johnny Bench was thee big mega-star! I remember Johnny Bench appearing in a "Partridge Family"or was it "The Brady Bunch" as a waiter, back in '73.
I picked up 2 hanger boxes at Target the other day. Nothing big in it, but since 1974 was my first set to collect, I was excited to rip them open. As I saw each card and the team names, I kept thinking I'd see the players from the original '74 set. What an awesome experience and trip down memory lane for me. As one of the elders in my family now, I cherish those times as a kid even more and thanks to 2023 Topps Heritage, I get to relive these fond memories with every pack I rip.

The backward Reiley Greene was a French back. One of my 2022 hobby boxes was a hot box, I got a relic and a autograph also. Thanks Erik

EDIT: I pulled a Topps Bigs Riley Greene & the same Judge cards with the exception of the Judge mini. My auto was Christopher Morel. I still have some research to do on a few others. I was not disappointed. 🙂
Leaving Los Angeles off strikes me as an error or variation. The '74 Topps Alou card is famous for same.

I LOVE THE 1974 DESIGN.... THIS SET HAS ALOT OF ICONIC ACTION PHOTOS ON THE CARDS.... 1978 IS MY OVERALL FAVORITE AS I REMEMBER BUYING PACKS AND CELLOS FROM THE LOCAL PARTY STORE.. LOVE THE PHOTOS IN THE 1978 SET AS WELL. ESPECIALLY, THE GEORGE BRETT WHICH WAS A VERY PRESTIGIOUS CARD TO OWN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. LOL. I WILL BUY A BOX OR 2 OF THIS PRODUCT... TY FOR SHARING....
Love heritage ordered a couple
'74 is not one of my favorite designs so I wasn't expecting much, but Topps did a good job.
I love the Heritage.. Wish they held better value.. I like them so much more than the regular Topps run.. Just feel like real cards, not glossy

Did you get any Washington N'tl League cards from packs? I only got San Diego Padres in my neighborhood. I got the National League cards (including McCovey) much later on. The Aaron card #1 was the card we were all looking for.
@@yankeesandgiants1886 I did not get any, but I picked them up at a later time. I halfway expected some kind of SP variation in this Heritage set to commemorate the original Washington NL cards.
@@yankeesandgiants1886 yes, the Judge card is a great homage to the Aaron card. Made me smile seeing that! One more thing I think I noticed. The Kyle Bradish card on the Orioles looks like the original Palmer card, and the Scherzer card looks like the Seaver card. Might be my imagination…
@@cardyard608 You are right. I remember the horizontal Seaver card and the Palmer is dead on with the Bardish. Good memory. The worst cards-and I know you'll remember- were the Traded cards. So many of the same cards and the terrible air-brushed caps. :) Remember the team checklist cards with the fake autos?
@@yankeesandgiants1886 I think that Bradish card is a straight up homage to Palmer. I have a set of those red border team checklists. They had similar blue border team checklists for 1973, those are much rarer. And you’re right those traded cards were terrible and still are. Update is a huge improvement!

I was 11 in 1974…Still have most of my cards from ‘74. I liked these designs. 1970’s had some cool designs. I won’t be buying these, but will enjoy watching these videos.

1974 Topps has the best design ever with the possible exception of 1959 or 1965 Topps.
I built this set when I was a kid, this will be the first set I build in five years.
Riley Greene says "error" i believe in the corner under the Topps logo. they moved the wording this year.
Maybe los angeles isnt on the angels card because its already on the dodgers card?
Wanted a jumbo of series 2 after how fun aeries 1 was, but 199 wasn't happening. Happy with a hobby box at less than half that.
I think the word you were looking for for that Lemayhew relic design is BRUTAL.

I preordered thru Steel City and still have not been notified it’s shipped. I preordered topps series 1 and they delayed it 2 weeks ostensibly to fill large orders for big accounts first. If they delay my order this time I won’t order from them again. This is ridiculous.

I got a bowman blue /150 Morel rookie card
Sold for 40$ the same day.
He seems to be pretty hot right now.
I believe the blank ribbon variants are to pay tribute to the Jesus Alou error card in ‘74.
In 2022 Topps Chrome Update they only have Angels as the name. Since of Anaheim was dropped and it’s just Los Angeles Angels not sure why full name isn’t on cards. Maybe a trademark issue.
Riley Greene also has 4 variations possible so that backwards card could be one of them.
The short prints are probably limited too 50 million instead of the 100 million they probably printed.
I'm very curious about why that first Angels card did not say Los Angelus when other cards do say Los Angeles

Topps series 2 hobby jumbo were gone instantly. Topps was supposed to make it so these guys with 80 accounts could not do that. I called and complained and they’re like yeah our IT team will review it and cancel any orders going to the same location I’m like yeah right whatever. I did manage the order for regular hobby boxes still makes me mad though. I watched the countdown for the last 20 minutes as soon as it opened I tried to put a hobby jumbo in my cart and it would not let me.
The Hank Aaron tribute cards were numbered 2-6 with his All-Time HR King as number 1.

That Logan O'hoppe is a short print. I seen you pull other Los Angeles cards. No name in the top. But other ones had it. 🤙🏾🌊

I'm really confused why they don't put Los Angeles on the Angels' cards, but they do for the Dodgers' cards...

I build the heritage master set every year
I guess “Angels” is the trademark. If you look at some of the previous 1974 style cards(2018 Transcendent Trout, 2021 70 years of Topps Ohtani) they don’t have Los Angeles on either.
If you look on checklists it’ll say “New York Mets” but then only say “Angels”.
And they haven’t been the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim since about 2017.
Go back and look at a 2015 Trout, it just says “Angels” instead of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Whereas a Stanton says “Miami Marlins”
2017 Trout says “Angels” and 2017 Judge says “New York Yankees”
I know that I'm late to this video but in case you still haven't found out yet, the Riley Greene that was flipped was an error card which is a nice pull. Keep up the great work I love these vids man :D

It's funny that they don't do the Los Angles for the Angels, cause I definitely saw it on the Dodgers cards. right at 17:56 right after you talk about the LA
Heritage is the one release I buy for myself. Everything else is for my kid. Last year I pulled a Shohei Throwback variation and a Rick Monday auto from the same retail blaster. The Shohei was 1:22,583 packs but I actually like the Rick Monday card more.

Hank Aaron #1 was Aaron all time HR king, 2-6 were quad pictures of all his topps cards to that point.
The Angels cards probably don't have Los Angeles on them because the team's official name is Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, so they wouldn't be able to fit all of that in and they might not be allowed to just put Los Angeles or just Anaheim. Also, in 1974, Topps released a set of 12 puzzles that looked like the box topper. It was just a test set, so they're not easy to find. They were sold in packs for 25 cents and 29 cents and Tom Seaver was on the front of the pack.
Considering all of the name changes they should just call them the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim California.

That LA Angels card was blank in the ribbon but the LA Dodgers Los Angeles was spelled out in the ribbon. Is that a error card?

Just curious why you keep the box loaders instead of sending it to the person who paid for the box? It is part of the box if I'm not.mistaken.
He didn't say he was keeping that puzzle. He said he'd be opening boxes and putting packs from those boxes into Patreon members' monthly packages and he would keep the puzzles from those boxes, not the one he opened in the video.

@@montrealsports29 and just to be clear. I didn't think anything shady was going on. I know he does stuff where he charges less for shipping in certain circumstances and did something like. Unless it's a big hit, I'll just keep it and save you a couple bucks on shipping if you want.

Heritage is a fun rip.. at like $45. Topps continues to price gouge.
