No, the right way of doing so will never be playing a hi hat out loud to the whole stage just for the sake of sync. They instead use metronome for the whole show having everything in count and maybe even someone just dedicated to trigger different parts of the song like riffs or samples. But cymbals playing? That shows how they just used the channel from the drums already mix and shit and just hit play

I went to that concert. I didn't get see the background. On the floor to the side. I said I need to go and sit straight in front of stage. Sit and watch this time..
Too bad you have to be dead center for the video behind the kit with the side screens that jut out blocking most from seeing it. I’ve also seen this issue with other big shows like Paul McCartney. Metallica gets ur right tho. All of their video screens are behind the entire stage area. Should be industry gold standard.
Im glad I don't have a talent or made it big doing something that deteriorates with age. It must be very hard to deal with. Honestly, you know in theses guy's hearts they wish it was the 80s forever.
The odd thing to me is, after the count in (which is clearly pre-recorded), Tommy ends up playing because he loses time. I saw the show in Nashville from a similar seat, and he definitely played because there were a few minor slip ups. That said, it seems so odd that a count in would be pre-recorded, but it seems that’s how it appears. Also, if he was playing along to a track, people up close would probably have heard them not sync up at some point, or he would’ve missed some drum fills, cymbal hits. Not sure, strange either way. It does appear at the shows, Mick is only prevalent in the mix during his solos, and the rhythm guitar track does the heavy lifting during the verses and choruses. Again, could be wrong, just seemed that way to me.
@@user-bl6ne3hc6n THANK YOU. I've been trying to explain the exact same thing in other threads, but certain dummies here just can't wrap their heads around that concept. @@user-bl6ne3hc6n Yep, exactly. I have no doubt there's a click track on the in-ears here as well, and as you said, no biggie. The guys I mentioned only know basic stuff they use in their bedroom "bands" (like click tracks) and can't fathom what huge touring rock bands utilize. The "fake" backing vocal track here is also pretty minor I would say. I think it's just the gang chants that are pre-recorded to make it sound like a group of people shouting. The majority of the vocals are being done by Vince. He sounds decent but only because they're playing the song much slower. That's actually my biggest gripe of this performance, the slow tempo. None of these other alleged "issues" get to me.

Of course. All this tour is for nostalgia bait. Crue hasn't been artistically relevant in decades. This is just Nikki wanting money. The other bands on this tour at least have things going and still produce. Crue is nothing more than moldy bread that needs to be tossed out. This is just 60 year olds taking your money to see a shell of what they were.

Tommy def had a backing for the count but all that playing once the song starts is him. He’s still killing it too. All the cymbal hits and fills match up with the audio, if it was pre recorded they wouldn’t have synced the entirety of the song / show.
The only thing live here is Vince singing. Everything else sounds pretty much like any other concert they've done in the last fifteen years. With Vince voice obviously they have this amplifier effect but that's Vince singing, only a live performer could sound like that.
It's just a cymbal cue so the band all starts together because there are certainly other tracks being used. Say what you want, Tommy is and always has been a beast back there.

Nostalgia tours don't give a shit. It's just a money grab. If they could have Vince and the whole band mime, I think they do it, that is if they could get away with it.
They've got a lot of backing tracks going actually. Multiple vocal tracks, and at least a rhythm guitar track which I understand since it fills space when Mick is playing a solo.
In the old days, anyone who did playback or was pretending to be the singer(example Milli Vanilli, ok not Rock, but I am talking about the cheating thing)used to be eliminated from the music business. And no smartphones were available at that time to shoot the concert(unless you carried a camera). Now, in the present day, Kiss and now maybe Motley Crue are caught doing playback with thousands of cell phones and uploaded to UA-cam and people don't care at all and say "Well, so what?". Unbelieveable. In the past the crowd used to kill you if they knew you were doing playback.
IMO only 1 2 3 4 cymbals were pre-recorded to let Tommy know when the song starts. Then he can keep the tempo with click while the rest of backing track runs.
Good video Motley Crue rules the world Aug 8 Toronto Ontario Canada the devil come to Toronto taken grandson first concert ever 9 years old and gets to see the bad boys of rock
In modern tours everyone has to go in time with the click, to synchronize the whole show, because all the machines that are used are connected to each other via midi signal from the lights to the videos to instruments preset ( like Megadeth, Def Leppard etc.the midi signals also change the guitar preset in a floorboard for example ) having said that the four hits that you hear at the beginning are a "counter" to start perfectly and " Syncronize" with all the machines on the show.

It's a Que track people. He's still playing. It just helps keeps them on time for these huge echoing stadium shows. That's what I've been trying to tell everybody about Kiss. You are still hearing their voices and instruments. When there is so much reverb and they are standing so far apart, it's hard to keep time because the sound sometimes gets to some of the band members at different times depending on how far away they are. They need a constant stream to stay in time. These dudes are 60 something years old... we are obviously hearing Vinces voice. U can hear the mess ups. Just like in Kiss. The moral to the story is its ok lol. U are still hearing the band. Once they start playing you can't hear the que track. Sorry if anyone doesn't understand but this is whats happening with most of these stadium bands nowadays.. I still love them. It's not compromising to their live performance. It just helps them stay together an keep time. That's why when Vince randomly decides to raise the mic up an let the crowd sing, you can't hear his vocal.. cuz he's actually singing lol. Don't freak out folks. Most stadium bands have been using these techniques for YEARS lol. Crazy people are just now noticing. Probably cuz they been inside not doing shit for 3 years and now they're bored lol. Idk.. either way show the boys some love. Most huge stadium bands that don't play just blues use que tracks.. ZZ Top, KISS, Motley, Def Leopard, etc etc.. they all use them in different ways. Backing vocals, bass and the hi-hat four count at the beginning are 100% pre-recorded tracks. It’s more than likely that Tommy mimes the click intro, but the drums in the song appear to be live. The guitar to me seems like it’s pre-recorded as well. I’m a professional guitarist of 15 years, and the solo in particular seemed to be a bit out of sync with what Mick was playing. And judging by the lawsuit he just filed against these guys, I would say that’s all pretty accurate
What does it matter? It's his drumming no matter what the issue. If he's recovering from injury then leave it be because we all know Tommy Lee is a BAMF!
It's just a count in. You can tell Tommy was like "oh shit the four count is coming like.. NOW" and he jumped on the kit. He is definitely playing the rest of the song.
I cannot say 100% either way if there is a backing drum track or not, but as a musician there is a thing called a "Click Track" that help set's the tempo. Since they are using floor monitors I'm wondering if the high-hat hits were meant as a "Click In" for everyone to set the mental tempo so the speed wasn't way too fast/slow. Just providing an alternative possibility . . .
They are now in a world tour, along with Def Leppard. I saw them two days ago in Mexico City and the show was good, but rather dissapointing at the same time. Def Leppard just playbacked their records. Mötley Crüe sounded way more live than Def Leppard, but they were obviously using backtracks and there was some kind of voice enhacer for Vince (didn't sound natural, like coming out from a box). Some of these guys are over 60 years old now and abused themselves a lot, so I do not blame them for resorting to some technological help while still putting together a professional show.

Tommy's drum tech was swapping snares. The monitor tech probably threw the drum tracks into the monitor mix to cover Tommy being out of the seat when the song started. Gear fails all the time on shows this big. These techs know how to cover just about everything they could imagine. If Monkey is still the video wall tech, I hope you're doing good man!
It’s not a Tommy Lee issue alone it’s the whole band. They are sequencing backing tracks to fatten up the sound. They still need everyone to play but without the extra padding they probably sound a little thin. All that padding makes it’s way onto the record by over dubbing multiple tracks. If they want to sound closer to the recording they either need extra musicians or sequenced backing tracks. That’s why you saw Pink Floyd go onstage with a dozen musicians. It’s the only way all of the nuances of the studio performance can be heard. Very common practice. Problem is it really looks like hell when the sequencer starts and all the musicians are not in place. Hard to cover all the bases without a little cushion these days that’s all.. They boys are getting a bit old😢

They instead use metronome for the whole show having everything in count and maybe even someone just dedicated to trigger different parts of the song like riffs or samples. But cymbals playing? That shows how they just used the channel from the drums already mix and shit and just hit play
This is the best footage Ive seen all tour. Gives you a true perspective of how HUGE that stage is. The backdrop artwork is killer as well. Never noticed the detail until today.
What’s this have to do with the fact that they’re using live enhancements?
@@thewaragainstcars - Who said that's the topic of this video??...
Is pre-recorded for the backtracking vocals it's all timed of the backtrack vocals,, they've been doing that for about 15 years now
@@user-bl6ne3hc6n THANK YOU. I've been trying to explain the exact same thing in other threads, but certain dummies here just can't wrap their heads around that concept. All they can do is claim to play the drums and that click tracks are sent to the ears. They don't even know what a cue track is or why a drummer might need one. IDK those guys have to be Flat Earthers or something.
@@Nightbreed82 if you have pyros that are timed with the lighting all computerized and then you have a backdrop with a film they're going to use clicking tracks ..no biggie,, the fake back vocals is another story,, and I think Def Leppard's doing it I caught them on the Las Vegas tour they sound way too good I'm a former musician I could spot that stuff a mile away,, if you have a chance go watch The Regency in vegas of Def Leppard and when they did Rock of Ages Rick Allen was late that's when I knew,,
@@user-bl6ne3hc6n Yep, exactly.

The staging is really big. They defiantly have an amazing group of people on the stage crew putting this stuff together. I can only imagine that it takes over half a day to set-up.
kind of surprised I haven't seen a time laps video for this yet.
Motley Vanilli
Seen them 3 times, BTW.
Looks that playback kills!!!!
That is where the nfl draft is at and where MOTLEY CRUE WOULD PERFORM ON FRIDAY!! #WEARETEXANS 🇨🇱🐮🏈
I talk as an old fan, I was there when Dr. Feelgod was released, and that was a great time. Everything must come to an end, and that end had to come many years ago. Seeing them, and first of all hearing them playing and singing like this is sad. Really sad.
Dude, it was over long before Dr Feelgood. That album blows. The Crue have sucked since 1985.
Sad because they're having a good time and you don't know how to?
Of course. All this tour is for nostalgia bait. Crue hasn't been artistically relevant in decades. This is just Nikki wanting money. The other bands on this tour at least have things going and still produce. Crue is nothing more than moldy bread that needs to be tossed out. This is just 60 year olds taking your money to see a shell of what they were.
songs are really slow -
@@larsgarret2817 in the last 30 days I went to see Metallica, Pearl Jam, RHCP and in September I'm going to see Opeth. So yes, I know how to have a good time.
U gotta love Mick
Tommy def had a backing for the count but all that playing once the song starts is him.
He’s still killing it too.
All the cymbal hits and fills match up with the audio, if it was pre recorded they wouldn’t have synced the entirety of the song / show.
Agree. I'm also wonderful if the count was accidentally started by the tech or otherwise.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The only thing live here is Vince singing. Everything else sounds pretty much like any other concert they've done in the last fifteen years. With Vince voice obviously they have this amplifier effect but that's Vince singing, only a live performer could sound like that.
100% correct they have been doing this for YEARS.
“He’s got the tracks that fail”
It's just a cymbal cue so the band all starts together because there are certainly other tracks being used. Say what you want, Tommy is and always has been a beast back there.
Love ❤️ Motley Crue, great video!🤟
When i was at the Nashville TN show, they played The Dirt and I swear it was the actual CD track..
I even got a misprint tour Poster that said Nashville FL instead of TN
Nostalgia tours don't give a shit. It's just a money grab. If they could have Vince and the whole band mime, I think they do it, that is if they could get away with it.
Sounds like there is a cymbal count but no drums start until he's playing.
They've got a lot of backing tracks going actually. Multiple vocal tracks, and at least a rhythm guitar track which I understand since it fills space when Mick is playing a solo.
LOSER CRUE
I like motley crue and all of their songs
In the old days, anyone who did playback or was pretending to be the singer(example Milli Vanilli, ok not Rock, but I am talking about the cheating thing)used to be eliminated from the music business. And no smartphones were available at that time to shoot the concert(unless you carried a camera). Now, in the present day, Kiss and now maybe Motley Crue are caught doing playback with thousands of cell phones and uploaded to UA-cam and people don't care at all and say "Well, so what?". Unbelieveable. In the past the crowd used to kill you if they knew you were doing playback.
Listless old men going through the motions.
Hey!!!! Careful with The play back Tommy!!!
Agreed
you mean in shitty modern tours
@@ludurigan You right mate, like you I always prefer bands that don't use sequences ... but believe me I'm a musician, it's more difficult to play in time with a machine than with your friends looking at each other ... because the machine never makes a mistake ....
My son and i were there... His first concert. They ALL KICKED ASS!!
THANKS FOR COMING TO KC 🎸❤️🇺🇸
Poor kid 💀
Why do people think they have to film everything ? Does no-one just live in the momemt anymore ?
Its a count in 'click track' - since backing vox/tracks are pre-recorded, they have to come in at the exact time, that count in is part of it, then he plays to the click in his in ears.
Yikes! Lol 😆😬😳
And Father Time remains undefeated. Gotta make some money before they can't. Super Love their material, and always will, but this would not get me pump watching it live, if it does for you, cool. Props for getting out there and touring and rocking. No pun intended. 😏

Dude! They all sound so damn great. I've always loved Vince's voice and think he sounds damn good still today. The entire band is just fantastic talent IMHO. 😎
I guess any band would sound great when everything is pre recorded.

"Lunchs that kill" according to Vince
Good video
Vince's vocals sound wonderful. I give him credit.
You must be deaf if you think this sounds good
@@dougpullins1215 It does sound good tho lol.
Like who the hell do yall think plays the synthesizer parts for ZZ Top on Legs or Gimme All Your Lovin or any of those classic 80s hit songs lol.. cmon yall. Bands have been using this shit for YEARS
Click tracks are not Hi Hats.
You’re totally wrong about KISS. Paul fakes just about everything. That’s why there’s a click (not a “que”) in the first place.
Que Tracks don’t go out live to the audience.
And they aren’t the sound of a high hat counting. It’s a click track.
Or like in kiss’ case literally a guy counting 1,2,3,4
@@ChristopherSmithNYC that's why I said Que track...
@@ChristopherSmithNYC a click track is just a click track dude..
its an intro cue, they have to use them to keep all the lighting in synch with the song
It's just the count in. Lights and screens are all synced up these days so once the intro starts they have to know the count in to keep in sync.
...it is so sad..because The gtr is pre recorded (Mick does just play the solos) , The back vox is pre recorded, The Piano on Home Sweet is pre recorded (there are plenty of videos from this tour where Tommy Fucks upp...he waves with his hands but he piano keep on playing etc...), The Base seems to be pre recorded to.....so what do we have?
is this a rock band anymore or a play back act?
The only one Who actually does this live is Vince and he gets all The crap in The world...when he is The only one Who does his job!!
The floor crowd is NOT into it at all😅😅😅
Click track to start the lights, help set the time, start other band members who can’t see each other. Pretty common these days.
Oh oh playback there!
better then my sound up in the nose bleeds lol still a kick ass concert
Pre-recorded count in on Hi Hats are to mark the correct tempo for everyone in the band and lights etc.
Tommy is playing his heart out🤘🏻 playing drums with recently broken ribs is beyond excruciating
The number of idiots that don't understand these facts, even after detailed explanation, is shocking and quite concerning. (EDIT to clarify that I was only referring to the pre-recorded hi hats, Tommy playing for real, not about the rib thing).
Dude, what broken ribs? Have you ever broke the rib? I had cracked (not broken) 1 rib and I could barely move, breath, cough or laugh for over 1 month. This is a fairytale. Everything could go wrong but he definatelly had no broken ribs.
I don't buy the broken ribs story, it's way too painful to do anything much less to play drums for 2 hours... maybe they were trying to get tommy cluefetos some more name recognition but who knows.. either way, there's no way he had broken ribs and knowing how motley likes to embellish some of their stories, it wasn't 4 broken ribs probably just 1 bruised rib...
@@justincase6058 it's been over 2 months now and everyone heals and deals with pain different just because you were in pain longer doesn't mean he still doesn't feel pain
@@justincase6058 @joe filipelli I actually wouldn't be surprised if the rib story was fabricated. The way Tommy didn't want to say how he injured himself and then his wife comes out with this 4 broken rib story....yeah, sounds like total bs. I thought it was fishy at the time. I've never broken a rib, but you guys that have would know. I still know that he's really playing the drums here, and I think he was injured recently, but it seems the details have been fudged.
For a joke a roadie fed in Lars intro to Master of Puppets, slowed down, and backwards! These young technics scamps. What are they like?
Initial cymbals was the countoff for the multimedia. Better than a digital click?
Probably a count in to help make sure everyone is on the same page.
A backing track for drums?! Lmao hahahhHH that's fucking amazing
WATCH THE KISS DRUMMER. HE IS CONSTANTLY TWIRLING HIS DRUMSTICKS TO LOOK COOL. BUT THE DRUMS CONTINUE TO PLAY. ALSO WATCH KISS DRUMMER, HE BARELY HITS THE DRUMS. Definitely live drumming (other than the count in)
Yeah it was just a count in. I know Tommy went big on a new built in mic inside the drum system. It’s called augmentation thyre album production is over the top so they have to make up for it somehow live.
Godsmack sorry spell check got me lol
Got a little click track action with the cymbals going on. Is the whole show played to backing tapes? I'll answe that: YES!
Not the whole show what Mick Mars other guitar part that is the only track most likely lol
It's called a que track. All stadium bands pretty much use them. U can still hear and are still hearing their actual voices and instruments. The que tracks can't be heard once they start playing. All stadium bands that aren't blues bands use this shit... sheesh.. it's been that way for YEARS lol... how are u people just now noticing this...
@@hunterwest54 I've noticed them playing to backing tracks for at least 25yrs. It's more than a Que track. Most bands use them now and that's why I don't pay to go see any of them.

No se puede hacer playback en la batería.
Todos los que dicen que es playback estan bien pendejos

Backing vocals, bass and the hi-hat four count at the beginning are 100% pre-recorded tracks. It’s more than likely that Tommy mimes the click intro, but the drums in the song appear to be live.
The guitar to me seems like it’s pre-recorded as well. I’m a professional guitarist of 15 years, and the solo in particular seemed to be a bit out of sync with what Mick was playing. And judging by the lawsuit he just filed against these guys, I would say that’s all pretty accurate
The 4 count is a track. The rest of the drumming is all Tommy.
What does it matter? It's his drumming no matter what the issue. If he's recovering from injury then leave it be because we all know Tommy Lee is a BAMF!
So, you all think that drum is a hologram? It cymbals are moving as it gets hit!
These guys never look at each other.
It's just a count in. You can tell Tommy was like "oh shit the four count is coming like.. NOW" and he jumped on the kit. He is definitely playing the rest of the song.
@0:09 is it me or does the song start before Tommy gets seated?
Nice how the high hats started playing before Tommy even sat on his throne 😂
I cannot say 100% either way if there is a backing drum track or not, but as a musician there is a thing called a "Click Track" that help set's the tempo. Since they are using floor monitors I'm wondering if the high-hat hits were meant as a "Click In" for everyone to set the mental tempo so the speed wasn't way too fast/slow. Just providing an alternative possibility . . .
F@#! YEAH!
...all these critics with their couch potato criticism. I think its cool they're still touring. It still would've been fun to be there ....
Vince sounds way too good!
He is really playing. There may be some backing trigger help but he is definitely playing
True but that would be in their ear pieces
The reason for a lot of backtracking is for pyrotechnics or video screen and lights ,timing,,
...NO he is not playing....he does a god sync. The hihat and cymabals is live....but The rest is pre recorded
@@MrXsXmedia I disagree, he is clearly hitting his drums as it sounds in the video
@@MrXsXmediaWow....I mean WOW. There are actually people that think he's pretending to hit the drum heads...lots of them judging by the comments. We really are living in "Idiocracy" times. Look at the bass drum, you can see it being hit, especially towards the end of the song. Why would he only hit the cymbals and then fake the drum hits? That'd be harder than just playing the damn drums, which he's OBVIOUSLY doing.
@@Nightbreed82 ...you can play and must play for The show....but it does NOT , The SOUND, go out to The PA system....
Have you listen and watch Home sweet from same show....The piano is pre recorded and it is all fake, he raises his hand and waves to some dude in The public...and you need 2 hands for The piano chords....
It is like Swedish House Mafia....They are on The stage, doin a show without playing
They boys are getting a bit old😢
It's just a click track using hi hat samples. He's still hitting the drums
There is a recording error here, check out for zoom out exactly at 0:11 you can clearly see how the image "jumps" and after that matches audio. besides that it would be TOTALLY POINTLESS to playback drums... think about it
...Pre count click on monitor, must of drummer use it , it's like a metronome to sign the time of the whole song form the start. Isn't a pre recorded stuff or things like this.
It was just a count in. With hi hats.
Lol! No way I'm paying to see that! Prefer to remember them as they were when I seen them in the '80s.
