This "trip" is soooo much more than just a trip! It is a VERY good look into how the transformation in how we travel (using EV`s) can be done, in a country where the geographical challenges for a useful chraging network are extreme. In addition to that, Ole really sums up (look after 20:25) the whole essence on how the future should be built for countries willing to transform private transportation. The incentives we have here in Norway (thx to the government), combined with the willingness of companies like Fortum, and all the power companies to really work together to make things happen, is just awesome! Thank you Bjørn for showing us what the future might look like, when you have people and politicians seeing "the big picture". The fututre looks bright!
Wow. Love that breathtaking scenery! (But I'm glad we don't get snow in winter or summer in Australia!). The guy from Fortum is such a fantastic guy all round. You are literally "taking the EV world on an educative and entertaining journey"!
Thanks for visiting my area, and for an interesting insight into the plans of Fortum! I live in Båtsfjord, and have been dreaming about ev driving for a few years now. Got an Outlander PHEV to test out electric for everyday driving, while not being limited when needing to visit Kirkenes (250 km one way) or family trips to the Bodø area. Hearing the plans of Fortum makes me confident that our next car will be full EV! Great videos, and series! Thank you Bjørn and Ole! Thumbs up!
Two people, two different approaches, a common goal and a lot of passion. If that does not smell like success! The whole trip was a wonderful adventure and a feast for the eyes, thank you.
In the company I work, Coficab Portugal, we have 3 of those transformers and 2 hi tension lines! We make elecric wires and cables for cars, also for EVs, that thick orange cables!✌️ What you did, Bjørn and Oleg of Fortum, is epic! Reminds me the pioneers in America, or the portusuese discoverers. A great step for mankind! 👍
Thanks very much, Bjørn and Ole - and Fortum, and the utilities involved as well - for arranging this trip. It's been fun and educational to be along for the ride!
Awesome trip man! Thanks for taking us with you! I'm eager to use some of those fastchargers to be build up there thanks to you and fortum. One week left then it's "Good bye ICE" and "Hello BEV".
Thanks Bjorn and Ole for the excellent trip/scenery - and looking forward to the faster 2-3 day trip once all the new infrastructure and chargers is built.
Yet another excellent video from you ... Thanks for all the effort you put in to making them so. You are lucky you don't have to wait in a queue to charge up.
The distance from where I live (in Oslo, the capitol of Norway) to the North Cape, is about the same as to Paris. I can't decide where to go on holiday this summer :-)
What an epic trip, kudos to Bjorn, Oleg, Fortum and MC Hammer. Now whenever I see and use Fortum, I’ll always remember this series. Fortum for the win!
Things were so much more exciting during the good old days of Schuko and 480 v industrial charging. Now with the new high speed chargers, everybody can make it to North Cape. Back in 2013, you were the only one :)
Thank you for this great series and discovery of this beautifull part of Norway. Two thumbs up, also thank you to Fortum to make this possible. Other countries can make an example of this!!
Those mountains in the background at the ferry stop are the Lyngen Alps, famous for freestyle skiing. 1500m straight up from the fjord. Fly to tromso, just one stop in Oslo from places like LA, SF, LV, NY, Dubai, caribia etc. And in November to February you can dive with humpback and killer whales, just search for youtube videos.
I need the fast chargers soon. On the end of july i want to visit northkapp with my model 3 from Austria ... Thx Björn (I have bought the red and the blue plugs to charge everywhere)
Really some fantastic videos from your trip i Finnmark Bjørn. I'll get my Leaf E Plus in September. Maybe i go for a long trip to Finnmark in late may next year. Your videos are so inspireing. We learn a lot, it is great fun and we get a heck of great scenery. Great work man and keep it coming
would be perfect to have a charger in Longyearbyen too. They have nowhere to drive, so EV's are perfect and it'll help a lot to reduce heating in Longyearbyen and the Arctic
@@bjornnyland I wonder what kind of percentage loss we're looking at in Kautokeino/Karasjok when its down below -30 or maybe even down to almost --40 :) At least there is no issue with the diesel crystallizing :)
The cold is not the worst problem. It is when it is +2 C and slush ice on the road that drain the battery so fast you would think that your sleeping and in the middle of a hefty nightmare.
These videos were great. Ole seems like such great company --- is it possible to book him for trips? -- and you seem much more relaxed and comfortable than usual.
Great video series! Are the blue 32 and 63 amp 4-pin plugs really 3 Phase or are they split-single-phase, like 2L+N+PE? If they are 3 phase, they'd have to be 3L+PE (no N), which would make the useless for a charger like the one in the Model 3....
hi bjorn is it possible that you give a short update about the network and when it is ready? We are planning a trip to the North Cape from the Netherlands
First of all. If you are only going to the North Cape, there already is a charging network since 2014. E-Route 71 has 22kW Type2 AC chargers. There are also some new non-Fortum Fast Chargers: In Alta there are new double 50kW CCS + Chademo + 22kW AC chargers. In Kåfjord there is a new 50kW CCS + Chademo charger + 43kW Type2. (But not operational yet?) If you have a Tesla: Tesla is promising a supercharger network covering all of Finnmark in 2020. If you don't have a Tesla and you want to go places like Mehamn or Karasjok, there is still no good solution (only slow ad-hoc charging.) For this project, it's delayed. Fortum was the only provider with an offer to the tender from ENOVA. But Fortum wants to build faster chargers than ENOVA asked for (and therefore wants more money). In November there was still negotiations. If you are optimistic, it'll happen summer 2020. The latest news I can find (in Norwegian): www.nrk.no/tromsogfinnmark/elbileiere-i-nord-ma-fortsatt-vente-pa-hurtigladere-1.14796525
Now i already watched half of video but i can just tell that someone can now start a trip like this with a tesla model 3 just by watching where bjorn it stops to charge 😂
Hello Bjorn! Did Fortum managed to build EV Stations far North as intended? I checked their site and cannot find any charger on the map in northern Norway. I’m from Portugal and planning a trip to Norway.
Nope, almost none of these chargers ended up being built. Vattenfall (inCharge) is now building some HPCs in this area. There are enough chargers to visit North Cape with relative ease though, the only charging wasteland really is the leg between Alta and North Cape where there are no fast chargers of any kind still. But this is easily mitigated by staying the night in Honningsvåg and charging there at one of the 2 hotels that have AC chargers. Visited North Cape and Tromsa this summer from southern Finland with a Model 3 and had a great time.
I love the way you complain about only geetting 50KW chargers, my town (UK) does not have a single one!! The nearest rapid charger is only 50kw max and around 10 miles away :(
Alta is the most populated municipality in Finnmark county, and here you can see how the weather is during the year www.whereandwhen.net/when/europe/lapland-rovaniemi-/alta/
This was May 22, at 69-71 degree north, and spring was indeed late this year. The snow cover is mostly on mountain passes, and because there is almost no trees in Finnmark, the terrain is extremely exposed to strong wind, which create massive hardpacked snowdrifts in every terrain depression during the winter. These snowdrifts takes a long while to melt, and give the impression there is snow "everywhere" despite it melted on the steets and around peoples houses several weeks earlier.
@@bjornnyland It’s not the food itself that bothers me. It’s the smacking and slurping that, I won’t lie, makes me skip 30 secs forward. In my opinion watching you eat doesn’t bring any value to the otherwise very informative channel specific to EVs.
