I like this. Paramahansa Yogananda had another approach. Someone in the ashram came to tell him about another devotee who was difficult to work with and causing problems. Yogananda said "Tell me all about it". The man went on for a good 20 minutes about this other persons faults. When he was done, Yogananda said, "OK, i have heard you. It took 20 minutes. Now i want you to tell me about your faults for 20 minutes."
Those of us who are truly happy arent bothered by people criticizing them behind their backs. They dont fear embarrassment or isolation. Its a liberating mentality to have when you are truly indifferent about the negativity of others directed at you. When someone trys to give you their anger reject it with positivity. Then their anger belongs to them again.

This goes along with my thinking. I think if anyone simply understood what is real and true they would not act the way they do now but change into great people who care about everything.
In my personal experience I have found that all information true/false, good/bad, relevant, irrelevant comes to significance at some point down the line most of the time. If I were Socrates I would have listened anyway because it would give insight about the type of person telling the information and insight into the person being spoken positively/ negative about.

The speaker had some negative information on a 3rd party and wanted to share it. When the speaker stated it was not necessary for the listener to know. It’s up to the listener to decide if they want to be embroiled with gossiping.
I'm not. I wait for what they are going to say THEN consider it. At least you then know people's true motives and allegiances. Otherwise people won't tell you anything at all and what good is that?
