I really enjoyed watching you hear this for the first time! One of my all time favorite songs. Some surmise that he wrote this about his wife's untimely end.
My favourite song off all time from my favourite album off all time by my favourite artist of all time. Ive recently been told that I have only 2 years left and this will be played at my funeral. Ive seen him in concert 25 times and would love to add to that in the time I have left. Please come to the UK again!! " somewhere between the time you arrive, and the time you go may lie a reason you were alive but you ll never know" genius!
So my mother's best friend lost her daughter in a car accident when she was just sixteen in the later 70's. She was on her way to a skiing weekend with her friends. "Kacky" was her nickname, from Katherine, she was such a sweet girl. I used to baby sit her when I was a teenager back in the late sixties. She was a huge Jackson Browne fan, maybe his biggest. She had posters all over her bedroom! The night before her funeral service, one of her classmates managed to leave a note on his windshield, telling him about Kacky's passing. Her schoolmates combed Laurel Canyon that night looking for Jackson's car (the one that is featured on the cover for Late For the Sky"). The next morning, Jackson arrived at Kacky's school (a parachial cartholic school) in Los Angeles asking the head nun if there was something he could do and she said could you sing a song for her. Jackson said he would but he would need to go retrieve his guitar. I was unable to attend that day but both of my parents were there along with many of our family friends. I was unable to attend that at this stage of my life, whatever I thought was more important that day, was not as important and apparently Jackson knew that even if I didn't. My mom told me that she remembered her and my father arriving late for the service and her noticing a young man in his car beforehand. During the service he performed a song and was introduced as "Kacky's friend, Jackson" will sing a song. The song he sang that day was "For a Dancer" which was so appropriate for her. This was the late seventies and he was enormously popular then. What kind of a special human being shows up without ever having known the person in life but wanting to honor her in death. "I don't know what happens when people die" but thank you Jackson. Kacky was such a beautiful young person taken before she had a chance to live her life.
From the 1974 album, " Late For the Sky", this is a wonderful introspective song that delves into the themes of life, death, and the enduring power of human connection. Written about a loss of a friend, the beautiful accoustic melody and Browne's soulful introspective vocals create an emotionally charged atmosphere underscoring the song's contemplative themes. The violins are such a wonderful addition, with the organ bringing the sadness to light and the chorus bringing hope. Jackson's vocals so enjoyable, as usual. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and David. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Sit down and listen to his solo acoustic live album. It is so intimate in setting and you really do start to take in the vibe that hes just talking and entertaining his friends. Its unlike most live albums. That ive ever heard. Closest thing would be the vh1 storytellers series.
Greatest pairing of instrumentation and lyricist of all time. David always elevated Jackson’s lyrics with the emotions he evoked in his playing. Phenomenal and can’t be repeated.
"In the end there's one dance you'll do alone" ...death. Tragic, as his friend was in his sauna, so the heat of the house fire went unnoticed until it was too late. Brilliant harmonies by Joni Mitchell and David Crosby as well as the magic David Lindley always brought. One of my favorites.
I can't think of any song from this album that isn't wonderful. You might like Before the Deluge, also from this album. 'Liked your reaction - more Jackson Browne, please.
Late for the Sky is my favorite album by Jackson Browne. All the tracks are good, but some worth reacting to are: Late for the Sky Fountain of Sorrow Before the Deluge
It is called For a Dancer because it was written after a close friend of his died in a house fire because he was in the sauna and didn't know it was the end.
Jackson Browne is one of the very best songwriters ever. This is a great one. On this same album is another brilliant song titled Before the Deluge - would love to hear you react to it!!
Love Jackson Browne. Saw him live in concert and his voice is just beautiful. Clear as glass. Best singer I’ve ever heard live. His songs are equally amazing. He’s a gift.
Jackson Browne was always a favorite of mine. "Just do the steps that you've been shown By everyone you've ever known Until the dance becomes your very own"
D.T. - This was a great song submission choice by one of the very best songwriters, singers, Jackson Browne. Jackson wrote many hit songs for other artists/groups most notably The Eagles and Don Henley (Take It Easy).Harri, Your enlightening review was top-shelf. Jackson vocals quality never diminished over the decades and still writes and performs today. Harri, your review was excellent. 👏👏
@davebzen795 - We have similar taste in music, Dave. This is such a deep, beautiful reflection of what you can make of your life while you're here. It had me from the first time I heard it back when he released (and I bought) the album. "Late For The Sky" is a masterpiece.
I've listened to this song since the day the album, LATE FOR THE SKY, came out. The song never fails to move me and each time I hear it, I learn something new.
This is one of his best, lyrically. It is a bit sad, but so poetic and so profound. Who else writes songs like this? Not many, that’s for sure. He’s not afraid to take on deep subjects. And he does it in a way that anyone can relate to. You’ll notice the theme of the search for meaning throughout many of his songs over the years. “Farther On” and Fro Everyman” come to mind.
This happens to be my favorite Jackson Browne album. I wore out a couple of vinyl copies many years ago and have kept a CD version with me for decades. It's an album that deserves a full listen.
Wonderful choice David. The beautiful voice of Jackson Browne is always a good thing. His lyrics and compositions are always top notch. I love the violin here. Great reaction and insights from Harri. Thanks Harri and David 🌺✌️
Life lessons from Jackson. I may not always agree (I do in this case, but he's the one who taught me to examine, then think and feel, for myself), but I always listen.
Greatest song of all time from the greatest album of all time. His friend was a dancer and a tailor and a gay man. Jackson dedicated this song to the victims of the Orlando Massacre after that happened. Meant a lot to this queer gal who has loved him since I was about 4 and his first record came out.
Even as a teenager I loved this song, the ENTIRE album (brilliant: Late For The Sky/A MUST, Before The Deluge/violine!!!, ...; you heard already Fountain ...), although I had to really "work out" its English lyrics. You said it right: "wisdom of life", but the music and his unique "colored" voice (also live!!!) motivated me to do it. But I also like the 80s albums Live In The Balance (listen Americans) and the recently heard again I'm Alive with, e.g. Sky Blue And Black. Thanks, keep it up!!!
One of my mother's absolute favorite songs - it makes us both cry whenever we hear it, but yes, there is a tenderness and sweetness to it that is truly lovely.
Violin was David Lindley, who plays many string instruments.Keep going Harri. You're on to something!

Beautiful!!!
Jackson Browne is a genius
I'm still regularly floored by the fact that he wrote These Days at 16. Talk about an old soul...
@@Jacksswastedlife "don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them." At 16. Boggles the mind.
This was a song Jackson wrote about a friend who tragically died in a fire who was a Dancer.

David Lindley playing fiddle.
Just the best.
I felt heartbroken when Lindley died
@@KittyCarlile-490such an incredible loss. Gutted me. I’ll feel that even more when Jackson goes.
Browne/Lindley. Sublime.
You are missed, Mr Dave

Late for the Sky is my favorite album by Jackson Browne. All the tracks are good, but some worth reacting to are:
Late for the Sky
Fountain of Sorrow
Before the Deluge
Late for the Sky is one of my favorite songs of all time.
The whole album, "Late for the Sky", is lyrically poetic. It is my second favorite album in his catalog, second only to his debut album.
Jackson doesn’t write songs, he writes Anthems!
He wrote mine! Your Bright Baby Blues.
Jackson Browne's songs always give you something to think about.
"Late for the Sky" is a masterpiece! My favourite album of all time. JB is a poetic genius and still making wonderful music.....
Thank you Harry!
One of the best albums of all time. Thank you
Don Henley and J.D. Souther on harmonies.
"Leader of the Band" will put you in tears. It's a song about his father
That's not Jackson Browne. That's Dan Fogleberg. A great song, nonetheless.
One of my favorite Jackson Browne songs.
It is called For a Dancer because it was written after a close friend of his died in a house fire because he was in the sauna and didn't know it was the end.

Davind Lindley, making a profound and sad song, sweet with his strings. 🎻
Jackson Browne was always a favorite of mine.

An underated album every song a gem.
He's awesome ❤
I love your reactions. You’re such a lovely, thoughtful gentleman
Thank you so much 😀
David Linley was so great. RIP
Will have it played at my wake. Hopefully a ways off.
This David Lindley Solo is so hauntingly beautiful
Jackson Browne writes such amazing songs with such wonderful music and meaning lyrics that I can’t get enough of him.
His lyrics are amazing. Truly the talent of a generation. I can't believe he wrote "These Days" at age 16.
Nice review, Harry. Sentimental song which is captivating. Try another song from the album, the title song, Late for the Sky. A killer.
A lyrical master telling stories of life
The beginning of this song has been my ring tone for over 10 years.
Life lessons from Jackson. I may not always agree (I do in this case, but he's the one who taught me to examine, then think and feel, for myself), but I always listen.

I love your depth and insightfulness Harri. This is my favorite song by Jackson Browne.
My requested elegy. With emphasis on go on and make a joyful sound.
Mine too. Same with my mom who had the good sense to raise me on his music from his first record forward.
Music and lyrics make a beautiful song (something like that)
Is it possible to give date and year? Tks enjoy your reactions.
This good! Yoko....bad
😁😁😁
That was a violin at the end of the song ... not an organ. Almost certainly played by the great David Lindley.
Completely different artist. Dan Fogleberg.
