I can associate with this build, most experienced wood workers would like to critique them, but starting with the bare minimum tools and winging it gives us the experience and desire to want to learn and try more builds learning from past mistakes.. well done guys!
Great work, the boards turned out pretty nice! I like that you read through all the comments and take all the advice in, seems like an awesome way to get better at your woodworking skills. I hope this becomes a great hobby for you as you get older and learn more tricks.
Thank you for watching Chris! That's what this channel is all about learning and passing on information!
hahaha... great job! They look freaking awesome! Now you're making me want to build a couple myself!
Joe
homesteadonomics You totally should!! Nothing beats a good corn hole game! And thanks for subscribing Joe!
Hey , truly enjoy your work , thanks for all the videos!!!
Thank you, Matt! I have a bunch of new videos coming out here soon!
Great job, they look awsome & the don't tread on me is awsome!
EastBayOutlaw76 Thank you! I thought that decal looked pretty sweet, super easy to install to
Carriage bolts come flush when they're tightened down with a wrench. The square part grips into the wood and keeps the bolt from spinning free.
Troy Brumm That makes sense, didn't realize that when I did it. I used locktite to make sure the bolt and nut would stay together and the leg would move freely.
@@ZacJones Use fiber selflocking nutz...get em same time you purchase boltz and washerz....
Those are bad ass I love the American flag and especially the don’t tread on me logo sweet
I like how you walked away and didn't clamp it down. lol. sweet!
you could try using a 6" Dia. hole cutting saw instead of using the jig saw. they're a bit pricey but you'll be guaranteed a perfect 6" hole everytime.
Nice looking boards.
The College Woodworker, did you run into a problem with the polycrylic/polyurethane adhering to the vinyl sticker? If so, how did you overcome this? If not, what was the surface of the vinyl sticker? Matte? Thanks.
Great job! Thank you, for the video.
Michael Merkel Your welcome! Thanks for watching, a lot more to come Michael! Let me know if you want to see anything specific.
I made a set of these for the Christmas Party where I work. We practically used the same technique. I hope you don't mind me giving you a quick tip or two...instead of drilling out the edge of the hole a little bigger for the carriage bolts just tap it into place with a hammer...that's why it's square under the head as it helps to hold itself in place. Be careful drilling the legs from the inside out like that, nothing wrong with doing it that way but sometimes you can get chip out (tear out) when the drill bit comes through. It wouldn't hurt anything but would just show cosmetically. I love the way you finished those. The Flag and Don't Tread on Me add great touches of class to them. Great Idea...great job. Time to crack a few barley pops and toss some corn bags. Enjoy and God Bless.
Karl Ackdamack Thanks for the tip! I actually didn't know I could just bang the bolts in, makes sense to though now thinking about it! The bolts do spin and I like your idea how it will hold the bolts in place! If you get a chance post a picture of your boards on my Facebook page, facebook.com/thecollegewoodworker ,I'd love to see your work!
Also what whas approx cost for all the materials minus the decals
Great video! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
What if the board is 48 and 1/4 length? How should I cut to 48? Thanks! Good job! Do you have to glue to plywood or can I just screw in?
+newbie1982 If its 48-14" I would try and run it along the table saw! I'd glue it to make it that much more strong!
Where did you buy your stickers and what size are they? They look great..
colleyavenuecopies.com/ I bought them here, great price and quick service! Email Holly and let her know the college woodworker sent you. Let me know how it works out!
Can you pls give me links to both the flags and the decals. I couldn't get anywhere with the link you shared. Sorry. I want to order both decals, and the flags. I love those boards. Great job!!
colleyavenuecopies.com here’s where I order all of my decals! Ask for Holly, she will hook you up. Just ask for the American flag decals that I used
I use the hole cutout to build clocks for friends....drill center hole to 3/8" go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels pick up batt. operated clock works for less than $10... everyone loves the little clock especially if you put 5's around the dial in place of reg. numbers....
How much slide does using the poly give you? I am building some boards and was going to go hi-gloss paint so it has some slide but nothing crazy. If the poly works well I'd prefer to go that route with the design I'm doing, just fear a slippery board. Thanks
lots of slide in low humidity..in my opinion it slides as it should and how cornhole should play..they should slide but not slide back down the board.. 5-10 coats is the way to go sanding between each coat with either 400+ grit or 0000 steel wool and wipe down with tack cloth before next coat
Stlyn' boards!
+Rollors Thank you!
What about beveling the edges of the 2x4s and using a holesaw instead of a jigsaw for the hole? Jigsaws suck. Just a thought.
rskrilly I like the beveling idea and holesaw! I just didn't have a 6" hole saw and didn't want to buy one just for this one project. Jigsaws do suck not the most accurate tool.
Any way you could include a step by step instruction list and supplies list? For someone who is somewhat new to woodworking it would be very helpful and make following along easier!
the supply list would be an awesome idea
Where does one go on line, to buy some stickers
Nice Job!! Where do you get the bean bags?
Jim Nottingham I usually tell my customers to check amazon or better yet local distributors. We have a few here in the Virginia Beach area that make bags. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
You should've tapped the carriage bolt into the hole with a mallet so it "locks" into place before bolting it.
I never knew that was the intent of carriage bolts back then. I do now, thank you for the advice!
What kind of clamps were those for the angled drill holes?
Samuel Wilson They're called "C" clamps I believe! Not the most ideal clamp to use for what I was doing! Kreg makes a really nice one for this particular job! www.amazon.com/Kreg-KHC-RAC-Right-Angle-Clamp/dp/B001DCE79O/ref=sr_1_1?s=power-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1439232162&sr=1-1&refinements=p_4%3AKreg
Great video! can you make a list of all need supplies and dimensions, as well as where you got the flag stickers.
Thanks gona start making these today!
You'll need the following: (1)4'x8'x3/4" Ply wood, (1) pack of edge banding, (4-5) 2'x4'x8', Glue, (4) Carriage bolts, (4) nuts, (4) Washers, some poly urethane, foam brushes and that should be it! You can order your decals from Colley Ave graphics (they do a great job) ask for Holly there. Here is their website colleyavenuecopies.com/ you can also find the plans on my facebook page here facebook.com/thecollegewoodworker When your done post a pic! I'd like to see how they turned out! Also I believe it was around $80 or so.
thanks bro good video! tagged you on my facebook post from my progress so far with my set. Just need to order the decals.
what are the dimensions of the american flags?
Thank you! The Flags are 10"-12" I can't recall exactly, when you order say you want a 6" diameter whole in the middle
What size round over but did you use?
I used a 3/4" round over bit but you could use a 1/4" and it'll look great! Thanks for watching!
I'm going to use this $1 sponge brush **proceeds using a bristled brush**
+ROMEYYOUROCK LOL>.. exactly!
+ROMEYYOUROCK haha I know didn't really think that through when I was making them! Thanks for watching!
Let me know what you guys think! Any suggestions for future projects?
To buy the decals do you have to "get a quote"? If so do you mind telling me what you typed?
Ya you can get a quote from them, usually depending on the size and if it needs to be cut out it'll differ in price.
Would Fathead Decals work? If not, any recommendations?
BUZZSAW688 I think they'd work perfect! Because you are sealing it with poly you want to make sure the thickness of the Fathead Decal is minimal so it isn't raised! If you find it to expensive going with a Fathead decal you can always use the place I used. They do a great job and they're pretty cheap! colleyavenuecopies.com/
If you do make some boards I'd love to see them! You can post them on my Facebook page facebook.com/thecollegewoodworker
what size stickers are these?
These decals are 17" made by Colley Avenue Printing! colleyavenuecopies.com/ they do a really good job making the image clear and cut out just right! Ask for Holly!
do you know the meaning of the second sticker?or you bought it randomly?
+greenjobfish The Molon Labe decal?
yes this one
+greenjobfish Yes sir, I know the meaning of both of them. Wouldn't put them on there if I didn't believe in it!
The carriage bolt gets knocked in with a hammer so that it doesn't spin, when you tighten the bolt.
+titans nation Thanks for the advice! that would have worked a lot easier
Where do you get those decals?
Russell Walker I used a place called Colley printing, colleyavenuecopies.com/Home_2_8OW2.html I've used them a bunch in the past and they've always given me great quality decals which are reasonably priced!
Watch when you are routering the 1/4" round over around the hole. The direction you went is called a climb cut and not as safe as going the other direction. The work piece should be to the left side of the direction you are moving the router. Be safe.
I always get confused with that router! I know there's a certain direction to go or it'll start going nuts on you!
wow just use a rubber mallet and pound the carriage bolt in. it will indent the 2x4 and won't spin. Case in point that's why a carriage bolt has a square shape on it. should have cut the legs longer to get a full angle foot.
At the time I had no clue that's why the square was there. Didn't realize it until everyone told me so thank you! And thanks for making it that far in the video without clicking away haha
the decal site provides no way to order. Suggestion?
Hey Keith you actually have to email or call them for your decal. Let me know how it goes
@@ZacJones thank you....not on the project list at the moment....I made a set a couple of years ago for my son in law for his birthday. They have been the source of a great deal of fun BUT, I love those decals and they would look wonderful on the next set I make....for ME!! lol! Thanks again!!
I'm 37 and never heard about this game till today.
TheDutyPaid It;s a great game, highly recommended!
Constructive criticism is good but some of the comments here are out of line. Every woodworker had to learn and we ALL made mistakes along the way. Good job. Keep after it.
Dan Willis hey thanks Dan! I don’t let them get to me, I’m still learning and improving. Thank you so much for your comment, hopefully it inspires some people to get making! Even if you’re not the best at if
MATERIALS
(2) 24" x 48" pieces of 1/2" plywood for the surface
(4) 2x4 x 48" for the frame
(4) 2x4 x 21" for the frame
Harry Potter 1/2” works for sure! I actually used 3/4” on this one!
Make it easy and just buy a 6-inch hole saw for your drill.
After I made this set, I went out and invested in a $30 hole saw, best investment ever! Thanks for watching Josh.
thats not how youre supposed to use a carriage bolt
+Bryant .Collins Yah I realized that after I put them in! It was my first time making a set
We’d love to work with you on a review of our outdoor game Rollors (Rollors.com)
LOL, you pound that bolt into the wood so it seats college boy.
I pounded it really hard... It could support a small car. Thanks for watching Aaron!
Sorry but horrible.....DIY video.......no measurements or supply list.....you just showed you putting one together....No help, sorry
+tom riggle Sorry about that Tom, for future videos I will be sure to include this. Would you have wanted to see more explanation as well? Also for the measurements would you suggest including this into the video or just listing them in the description? Thanks for the honest suggestions!
tom riggle I agree %100
you guys really couldent put music over the drilling sound lol cant even watch this
Fernando Zepeda they either hate the music or love the music I can’t win Fernando haha
Lol copied the instructions from another video and made his own without measurements
Oh yes this was my first video and I had no idea what to do when explaining how to make them, thanks for baring with me and watching haha
Good work, but damn cut your damn grass. You made some kick ass boards, but the mosquitos will eat you alive in that jungle.
Weak Cornhole boards...
MrBubbajohnson1 I know, I got way better, this was my first set. Thanks for watching!
Is this a joke? You look like you worked a summer in construction and all of a sudden you're a woodworker! If only it were that easy.
