Thank you so much for this video. I felt like a friend was walking me through it. You’ve given me courage to put this on my to do list for my front walkway. I watched another video that used spray paint and I think this stain turned out much nicer.
I am glad it has been helpful. I would worry about paint flaking off. It has been years and the stain has held up really well - the color has not faded and the finish still looks good.
Wow, what a difference! Very well done, indeed. I think the bleed through and patchiness (almost invisible by the way) add character to the total effect. Excellent job, and thanks a lot for explaining the steps. I learned a lot and now need to apply this to my concrete patio. Such a lovely look!
At 7:13 you can see that the green tape defines the grout lines. Where I wanted the green squares, I completely covered the newly cleaned concrete with blue painters tape from edge to edge of the green tape. When I finished with the yellow stain, I removed the blue tape, but kept the green tape for the grout lines, protected the yellow spaces from overspray, and put down the green color stain.
So, I was talking to my dad who's a contractor. You should really be wearing the right PPE, because you don't want to get acid on your clothes. You definitely need an n95 so you don't cause lung damage, at the least.
Thanks for your concern! I was using a latex based, not acid stain, so no need to protect from acid. I was wearing a p100 respirator when I was grinding the concrete to protect from dust, and also ear and eye protection. You can see that at :43. I agree that proper PPE is vital and you and your Dad are smart to think that too.
Probably. I've read that you can use a brush. I think the usual recommendation is to use a sprayer to allow for an even coating that you can lay down quickly. I used a $12 sprayer I bought at Harbor Freight which was pretty much single use for this project. I like to prototype so I experimented with colors and techniques on some concrete in my side yard before committing to the concrete at my front door. Perhaps you have a space where you can do the same.
I got it from an equipment rental store. A place like Cresco or United Rentals or any local business that rents things like tile saws, or post hole diggers, and the like should rent a concrete grinder..
Nice video! What type of sprayer is it? Does the sprayer handle pain well? I was hoping to color spray my balcony cement floor and buy a sprayer which can handle thicker liquids like pain. Thank you amcoffe4me!
I used a very inexpensive garden sprayer from Harbor Freight. The concrete stain I used was very thin. I don't think a garden sprayer would work for paint. Wagner sells a somewhat inexpensive paint sprayer. Maybe you could find a used one for a good price? Good luck on your project.

Wow you completely turned that front step around. It looks great! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for posting and you did a great job!
This is exactly what I am planning to do - thanks for uploading.

Exquisite
Maybe she can bring that same color mix for the red and white bricks surrounding the door.
I would have got a few pieces of flagstone for the pattern
The end result is what I’m trying to redo🤣🤣
Thank you...It looks great!
How was you able to stain the green spots so perfectly without getting on the grout lines.

i want that kind of design but with real lines not just paint...have to search how it is done
If you don't have a sprayer, can you just roll it on?

Thanks so much :)Yeah I have a space in the back that will do. Good idea!
