Finding a used duplicator case is usually pretty rare. The downside to getting a used duplicator (with drives) is the added shipping weight and the drives are basically e-waste at this point. CD/DVD drives have near zero value on eBay, etc.

Randomly found 2 on classifieds she just gave them to me.
    One is a 3 bay
    Other is 5 bay
Trying to convert it so I can plug it into any pc/laptop etc and it acts as external burners. Not much info on that. 😩 lots of info for hdd storage etc. but I can’t find a sata sas that doesn’t require mother board.
I removed the duplicator controller and added 3rd 5.25” dvd drive.
I just want to add some type of plug to case that I can then plug in like a usb to duplicator case with the 3 drives and connect other end to laptop etc then you’ll have an external ripper tower that can be plugged into any pc.
Any info I’m all ears! He’s been researching for weeks and I can’t get an actual answer of what components I need to do it.

didn’t look yet, but comment made me laugh as it’s so true!
Prolly $200 now (2 years later) companies use the excuse of “inflation/covid” when it boils down to corporate greed

@@joshymcdaniel9233 "Corporate greed" and "covid" is code for government incompetence, which is basically what gives us the bad policies that lead to inflation, so, in a way, you're right.

Very Cool . I just picked up a 1 to 5 duplicator to do this very same thing . My use Is just a NAS Box attached to a SFF Lenovo p330 Gen2.
I'm wondering though, what low profile PCIE card to go with .? I would like to run externally from SFF LENOVO to DupeCase . sff 8088 to 4x sata.
    Any insight would be great.

The 9207-4I4E works well and is available in low profile. Just make sure you have enough room for a fan to keep it cool. LSI controllers like to cook themselves. :D

@@PeterBrockie copy that House Cat. The connector is called an "sff 8088" on that card correct?

@@Spoolingturbo6 Yep. The external one. The internal connector is SFF-8087.

I have a question. Doesn't the drives need to boot up while the motherboard boots that way the bios can see all the drives, Or being in a different case does that have to boot first before the motherboard?

    • @tek_soup
      @tek_soup Рік тому +2

i would say turn it on first, then your raid card will see it, as the pc boots up. i got a few raid cards, it slows bootime cause its looking at the drives, and if you built a raid with them.

@@tek_soup thank you very much. I’m thinking of building a DAS box or as they call it JBOD box. I have a lot of drives just no where to put them in or connect them until now.
