Looking awesome. The only suggestion I’ve got with ideas for the canopy fitout is keep it real simple without too many draws and plenty of just open space. Also maybe a bit of 50mm square mesh straight down the middle to seperate the kitchen area from the swags etc. being mesh you can hang stuff off it or tie things off.
@@AussieArvoshey crew. Genuine question. Did you guys fuse the extra wire you ran from the alternator to the positive. I want to do the exact same thing to mine. Thank you
All looking real good. Nice to see you doing lots yourself without spending a fortune. Personally I’d use some insulation in that canopy will help keep the fridge cooler and lower the risk of anything denting the canopy from inside
Foilboard from Bunnings works a treat. And you’re 100% right has saved a dent or two😂 www.bunnings.com.au/foilboard-20-x-2400-x-1200mm-ultra-20-insulation_p0125956?
I think it looks fantastic and all very neat and uniform. Really like how everything looks coordinated and simple and organised and planned. I hope you're able to continue this with the rest of the accessories to keep it un-fussy and well-proportioned. Well done!!
A few tips for the canopy fit out. Put foilboard insulation on the roof and front and back walls. It would fit nicely between the frame of the canopy. Also use aluminium composite panels if you are wanting to line the internal walls. It’s much th same price as plywood but is lighter and looks super clean. No need to paint or carpet it. Awesome build guys🤙🏼
Wow. White Stallion. Digging the reflections - how cool the interior is - intelligent choice on white paint! Looking at the thin walls of that Kings Fridge I’d expect the compressor to be running a fair amount. If you rig the fridge with space around it that you could fill with additional insulation, you might increase the efficiency and life of the compressor in the fridge. During the day you could stuff your sleeping bag or sleeping pad around it to keep the fridge cooler. This would work in concert with your reflective white canopy to keep those beers cold. Just a thought.
looking good boys! suggestions: glue some cheap foam floor tiles or similar around the fridge, it'll make a huge difference to the performance. add some weather protection to your anderson plug, mine was setup in a similar way but corroded badly after a year or so keep some open space in the canopy. in extreme weather, you can always sleep in there weather protection on the piano hinge, nothing worse than leaky canopy (dust or water)
Great job on the Nissan I have the same fridge in my Jayco J pod and it works really well. I added a small fan which connects to the fan circuit and only runs when the compressor runs but makes it more efficient and keeps the entire fridge at the same temperature and only cost around $5 and under an hour of work
Nice fellas! I will say the kings fridge is really good, but one thing I did was install a small fan between the freezer and the lid screen, hooked up to the negitive switch of the rear fan. When the compressor kicks in so does the fans. Cools 10× quicker and cost about $30.
Id suggest rethinking the canopy mounting. If your fully fitting it out but still wanting to take it on and off youll end up either having to leave random spots for those bolts to drop through or having to move everything. If you have the space id flip them so the bolt comes in from underneath and your nut is welded into the canopy floor
Looks really nice, well done! Don't run a canopy myself as i have a wagon but suggest keeping it relatively open/ empty on the passenger side so you can adapt to needs of each trip/ daily use. Less weight and more space available with canopy on means you won't have to take it off as often. 🤷🏽♂️
Great job, be proud of it, impressive effort. The holes in the sides where the stands slide in...they might come in handy when camping. Mount a slide in cooking bench or place to mount awning poles...or don't use at all, least there's option there. Great video, thanks for sharing, keep knocking it out of the park - All thumbs up!!!
I've got no suggestions of where to put stuff but one suggestion I do have is when you drill a hole in either the canopy or the tray paint the hole with some rust proofing paint. Even if you have a spray can and spray the tip of a cotton bud. Also, look at nylon nuts and denso tape for your hold down bolts
looks great so far one of my suggestions is some 12mm foil board insulations, which will go a long way to keeping the canopy cool. It has made my black canopy cooler than inside my ute's cab.
Another great episode guy! I found it extremely easy using a socket on a drill to jack up and down the legs. With the slide out pantry move it over 150mm and bolt hot water shower to the other side. That will also give you room to run a water tank
Looks great 👍I'm certain you could sort out the mounting bolts to go into captive nuts. Even something as simple as weld the nut to a plate and Sikaflex them underneath, no welding==no painting..LOL 😊
Nice work. I'd insulate the roof, as a minimum. Depending on the size of the box sections of the frame, go down to Bunnings and get a Foilboard insulation panel that's as close to filling the void as possible. Then get an aluminium composite sheet to cover it all up. Lightweight and it'll certainly make a difference. Suggest fitting the aluminium load runner channels like the Grenadier has on the doors to secure plastic boxes or anything else, keeping the back simple, flexible and lightweight
A very neat and tidy job indeed. It looks like a new vehicle. Someone suggested you weld the securing nuts to the underside of your canopy; I would not, consider using wing nuts instead - can be held in place viet your finger and you do not get to spoil the paintwork with welding. Happy travels.
I would consider some insulation in the canopy, Liam. Nobody does that, but on a stinking hot day it might keep the inside about 20° cooler? Also it would hide the framework/cavities between the framework. Anyway, even though I'm a Landcruiser guy, it looks good. (Please don't let anyone know I said that a Patrol looked good!)
Hey Liam , love it and I'm only halfway through 😅 what about a lockable Cary rack on the back for the lifts or just in the canopy , a 270 degree awning and rooftop tent and you'll have a camp setup that you can remove and still be able to go wheelin 😎
Matches so well on the tray man! Would be alright to incorporate a travel buddy hanging from roof of inside of your canopy so doesn’t take up floor space and travel buddy’s r so good to cook with! Especially while driving and now you both got lithium no inssues! Buy a step up convert and you’re sweet! Go induction if you can afford it power wise and on drawer in the middle of fridge and pantry with a slide out bench. And couple drawers on drivers side
Nice little canopy. FIrst thing i saw was a strip of LEDs along the top of the door jam on the inside. Pointed up itll reflect off the roof and bounce and you wont actually see them. Definitely look into cargo nets or MOLLE style nets. Bungie cord in the fridge so stuff doesnt move too much has been a big thing going around the kings forums. Making me want to ignore the wife and get a ute now my wagon is dead.
A thought for under the tray. A water tank with a surflo water pump. I’ve seen several canopies and they recommend the water tank and pump. Something to consider. Love the channel Chris from WA.
Your medical box power unit…. Honestly man, if it works, it works. Why redo it? One of the things I love about this show is the no nonsense reusing of what you have and not being too expensive. Hope it stays this way.
I’ve been waiting to see what setup u ended up going with. I’ve got the same kings fridge in my house. I live in the tropics, and my house is warm, so fridge works hard. As per reviews, the freezer ices up every 3 weeks, and in my situation, it draws 3.1 amps consistently. That said, it’s a great fridge for the money. Been using it for 6 months solid now. For the money, still worth it.
Looks neat as mate. Upright fridges in canopies are the best thing ever, you'll never look back. One thing id suggest even though your canopy is white is id insulate the entire thing with foil board, makes a big difference in summer.
Looking good Liam. Looking forward to seeing how you set up your canopy. Plus give an update on how our fridge goes after a few months. I too am looking at the Kings upright fridge next year when I redo my rear setup of my 80 Series. 👍
Looks great leim. Clearly you’re not going to put a false floor in it? Apart from that I’ve been running a canopy on my dual cab now for about 3/4 years and I’ve got a 40l Engle and a drop down slide and a set of draws and it weighs a fair bit so keeping down on the weight is a pretty big thing. So I think you’ve made the right decision with the upright fridge and the aluminium pantry. And stuff the haters with your kings stuff mate we can’t all afford a bushman’s fridge!! 👍🏽
A suggestion for keeping this canopy extra cool and make the fridge more efficient. The fridge works on heat pump technology, that is it transfers heat from inside the fridge to outside the fridge. This can then cause the canopy to heat up. Take a pipe / duct from the back of the fridges fan and run it to a vent outside the canopy. Have a second vent that runs into the canopy. And this will cause the fridge to draw in air from inside the canopy which will then draw in air from the second vent, you will be drawing in fresh filtered air which will help circulate air through the canopy and further help keep everything cool. For bonus points, tie some short pieces of wool string onto some iceypole sticks and bluetack them onto different parts of the canopy, set up GoPro's to film the string and drive around. This will show you the airflow around the canopy and help you find the BEST placement for vents, you want ideally the exhaust vent to go where the string blows straight out from the canopy and the intake vent where the string blows straight towards the canopy. This will reduce the effort placed on the fan in the fridge, increasing airflow and helping the efficiency a lot. You could always add an additional fan if needed, Noctua computer fans are VERY good fans, powerful, quiet and run on 12v. Your setup may be fine as is, but I'd throw a temperature sensor in the canopy that has logging and bluetooth etc, measure the temps inside and outside over a hot day with the fridge turned off, fridge turnes on with canopy doors closed and again with doors open. As with your decision to use it a bit before you build it up, data is important in knowing what you need to do. So record some data. You already have battery monitoring, so you can see the power draw difference between canopy doors open and closed. Add temperature data to that and you'll know if its worth the extra work and materials to do.
Had the kings 85l for a while now, wouldnt go back to a chest style, so much easier to use. It does draw a tad more but i have lithium and solar so not fussed. Before when the kings was around 800ish i did consider the bushmans etc but saw them go down to 500 with the secop comp and it was an easy choice.
Just to give you a heads up with the fridge, the latch is pretty terrible when you are driving around. Heavy items like drinks on the lower shelves will slide around and can hit the lower part of the door and will pop the door open. I'm going to add an over centre latch to mine.

Fridge etc should be left hand side anyway. When you park on the side of a track or road etc, driver side is road side and more dangerous to be accessing vehicle from. My work ute has all my frequently used tools on the left, curb side, for safer access.

I'm running the kings 85L in the back of my ranger with the bluetooth temp probe from them too, it got to 55c in the cab last week and the fridge was sitting happy at 2.8c (set at 2c). People love shitting on kings gear but at 1/3 the price of a bushmans you can't go wrong.
Picking up one of the Apb boxes in the coming weeks so will definitely be keen to get some Inspo from you Liam, you guys always seem to put your super unique and ingenious spin on things so definitely keen to see it, definitely a good call to just use the canopy in its blank format to just plot out what works, there’s a face book group called “4x4 canopies and trays Australia” definitely worth giving that a look man, some super neat and relatively budget friendly setups in there 🤙🏽
good job. nice canopy.i am in the middle of trying different set-ups in canopy as we speak. not as flash as yours ,lol but it works. milk crates fit perfect in mine as drawers which also makes them removable .fridge won't be inside as its kinda large.i changed canopies for the roof top as other made overall height 8 ft .which was way to high.will send some pics when I get it all figured out.again nice job and looks great on your ute. 😃PS, I also carry shit load of tools, out of habit ,usually if I dont got its when I need it.

Mate looks smick, I reckon after seeing your number plate you should throw a bit of yellow on the roof and rename your rig cockey "CKE" just like you should feel driving this smart rig
Great bit of kit you’ve got there, how does the fridge go after having it for a few weeks now? Does it always draw 2.9 amps or is that just when it’s cooling down?
Good one boys. I always enjoy watching your DIY projects. And your projects, you don't need to re-mortgage your house nor sell internal organs to afford them. 😁 It's one of the tidiest TD42s in Australia, I reckon. But it's missing one thing right now, an Aussie Arvo sticker. 😁
Looks awesome a tuff truck you have done an excellent job the wheels look fantastic all it needs now is a Built not Bought sticker cheers legends and have a safe Xmas and new year 😊😊
I recon the only downside of the upright fridge is, eveytime you open it, you will loose a lot of cold air, as it tend to fall down. So it will suck bit more power, but if you count with that, you will be sweet. :)
It looks absolutely perfect. colour, shape and size. I wonder if some aerodynamics on the front between the canopy and the cab might help reduce fuel consumption? (Can you tell I've been watching aerodynamics videos lately?)
Could you have a roof top tent on the Canopy & work it so that you can take the canopy off at a camp site that you are going to be at for a couple of nights and be able to go wheeling in the Beaut UTE ?
Loving your program as usual. Just wondering if you’re going do a weight check before and after. I’ve seen their boxes and they look great so I’d be interested to know 👍👍👍
Thanks David! Will definitely be doing a weight comparison with and without the canopy once i have it fitted out. I think the canopy in its bare form weighs around the 100kg mark
Good looking machine.👍🏻 Is the box missing rain rails where the canopy door hinges or is it a water resistant hinge?. Either way, you 2 legends should know by now how often temporary becomes permanent😜😆
Loving the build. Keen to hear how the upright goes, as I’ve been considering switching to one as I think it’ll make more sense in the rear of my 150 than my ‘chest’ style one does as far as accessibility goes. Also, is there any risk to the battery getting smacked by rocks/debris under the tray? Should it have a stone guard?

Very true some of these canopies are great but have no room for bulk storage really gotta be careful how you set them up hey..
@@AussieArvosI think just large plastic containers works very good for storage and easily removed and weight next to nothing compared to heavy draws

Use filters on both of them to keep the dust out.
The fridge will push its hot air out via its fan, through your pipe / ducting to outside and reduce heating up the canopy.

Good advice. A small fan inside the fridge works wonders too, on a dc dimmer to slow it down to a breeze not a gale.
Turned out great !

Loving the build so far. I reckon have a look at the Clear View Slide out Kitchen. Looks kinda specy
Picking up one of the Apb boxes in the coming weeks so will definitely be keen to get some Inspo from you Liam, you guys always seem to put your super unique and ingenious spin on things so definitely keen to see it, definitely a good call to just use the canopy in its blank format to just plot out what works, there’s a face book group called “4x4 canopies and trays Australia” definitely worth giving that a look man, some super neat and relatively budget friendly setups in there 🤙🏽
oh thanks Kenan! cheers i'll check it out! thanks!
good job. nice canopy.i am in the middle of trying different set-ups in canopy as we speak. not as flash as yours ,lol but it works. milk crates fit perfect in mine as drawers which also makes them removable .fridge won't be inside as its kinda large.i changed canopies for the roof top as other made overall height 8 ft .which was way to high.will send some pics when I get it all figured out.again nice job and looks great on your ute. 😃PS, I also carry shit load of tools, out of habit ,usually if I dont got its when I need it.
Put your spare wheel on the roof of the Patrol you can through a swag on as well .Giving you more working space on the tray
Mean looking rig mate, you've done a great job...
Look's great. I bought a 95lt king's fridge. Save over 1000 dollars on other brands and got 5 year warranty.
Now thats a clean looking rig! And practical too!
Looks great. Don't listen to the haters, kings fridges are mint. My drawer fridge is the best I have ever owned.
Looks good! Am I the only one who thinks that it needs a couple of UN stickers on each side and a light blue beret?😂 All jokes a side I enjoy watching the channel and look forward to seeing what is to come in the future. Good work!
Hahaha i know right, she's pretty white all round! Cheers mate!
Great job mate! Looks fantastic.
Its looking amazing mate, love it! 💯
You should glue a piece of white material to the inside of the APB cut out on the pantry to make the logo pop out more
Absolutely smick mate 🤌
Looks so good fellas! 👌
Mate looks smick, I reckon after seeing your number plate you should throw a bit of yellow on the roof and rename your rig cockey "CKE" just like you should feel driving this smart rig
Put a black diesel jerrycan on the back next to the spare! Cool build man :)
Looks very smick, well done, coming along nicely ❤
Hope you’re changing the side the fridge door opens. Loving this build mat
Wouldn't have to if it was on the curb side like it should be... hopefully he realises and changes it as it's much better
Great bit of kit you’ve got there, how does the fridge go after having it for a few weeks now? Does it always draw 2.9 amps or is that just when it’s cooling down?
Looks awesome guys - great looking Rig. Did you end up bolting the fridge down? must have missed that!
Looks sick mate keep up the good work. This is "build" is sort of what I'd like to do with my car in a few years.
Thanks Mate! now that you mention it i can't believe i forgot to throw a sticker on it 😅
What a clean build!
Looks awesome a tuff truck you have done an excellent job the wheels look fantastic all it needs now is a Built not Bought sticker cheers legends and have a safe Xmas and new year 😊😊
Looks so good!!
That looks great awesome job fellas
Cheers mate!!
I recon the only downside of the upright fridge is, eveytime you open it, you will loose a lot of cold air, as it tend to fall down. So it will suck bit more power, but if you count with that, you will be sweet. :)
The big rigs looking amazing, are ya gana chuck vents in the canopy ?
Sick work! Any plan for an awning and how you’ll mount it without fouling the gull wings?
Nailed it!
It looks absolutely perfect. colour, shape and size. I wonder if some aerodynamics on the front between the canopy and the cab might help reduce fuel consumption? (Can you tell I've been watching aerodynamics videos lately?)
Rig looks mint mate.
Could you have a roof top tent on the Canopy & work it so that you can take the canopy off at a camp site that you are going to be at for a couple of nights and be able to go wheeling in the Beaut UTE ?
The freezer is an awesome addition. Now you can be the cool dude that has an ice cream at camp on a hot day 😂
Loving your program as usual.
Good looking machine.👍🏻
Is the box missing rain rails where the canopy door hinges or is it a water resistant hinge?.
Either way, you 2 legends should know by now how often temporary becomes permanent😜😆
Looks awesome dude 👍
You should do a video on fixing the squeaks and creaks on the doors.
Awesome work 👏🏼
Loving the build.
Thanks mate! There is a rubber sheet on the underside of the battery to help protect it!
It looks amazing!!! So tidy!
