I went with a dual cab with a tub, then had a canopy installed. I won't do that again. It was the least expensive of the single/xtra/dual cab variants with tub or tray. Bought an ARB Ascent canopy plus racks on top. I found tubs + canopies with small openings make for poor access, bad use of space due to wheel arches, corners near tailgate, canopy needs a rack system because it's not flat for anything on the roof, the canopy is limited to 100kg, you cannot seal for dust...there's very little going for it, now that I've lived with it. Next time it will be a tray with a canopy. If it wasn't for the coin already spent on the ARB canopy, I'd get rid of it, get rid of the tub, and go to a tray with canopy. Live and learn, I suppose.
@@Michael_Mears if you don't already use Facebook, selling and buying things is probably the best thing about it. Join a few 4x4 groups, and owners groups for your car, and chuck the canopy up on market place. I'm sure you'll sell it quick and easy if you put it up for a good price. The tub may be a harder sell, but there's people occasionally looking for them after an accident.
I have the same nav np300 dualcab i have the arb ascent canopy and tub i love it but very soon to sell it to go a full tray for the moment then go canopy and dogbox 👌🏽
Another great video Tyler thanks so much. Maybe you could do a video on the Canopy and how much it was to put everything that you have put in it like your battery system and gadgets so people have a rough idea of what they are up for when putting on a canopy on a 4x4
great to hear your concerned with weight, particularly the trundle tray. upright fridges have been in campers and caravans for decades ( towed on rough roads with basic suspension) so it no surprise they would be a good option.
I have an extremely short attention span and so find that people talking without any action I tend to tune out. But for you I always make an exception! Fascinating stuff Tyler. 👍😉
Hi, I'm Tyler and I'm just going to talk briefly ... Mate, you're good at jibber jabbering, don't give up on it. Keep the bloopers, my 82 yo mum loves you.
Great vid Tyler. @11:25 I wonder how many of those commenters have a chest fridge in their kitchen? Or like the rest of the world, they find the convenience of an upright fridge so handy where you can instantly see what you want when you open the door, grab it and get the door shut again. As opposed to opening the lid, fishing around inside, lifting things out to get to other stuff on the bottom, stuff warming up while you grab the stuff down below. I have a cruiser wagon and have been wondering how to effectively mount a fridge that I can access easily. This is it. 👍
It was awesome meeting you today Tyler. Thanks for the helpful recommendations. Keep up the great work mate! But it makes me a bit homesick when you run those Snowy Mountains trails.
Hey Tyler, My two cents.... I've had two 4bys with canopys, one a Hilux dual cab and the other was a D22 Navara d/cab. In both instances I removed and sold them off. Why, well I also ride dirt bikes and obviously can't load them with canopys on. I modified the rear seat section to accommodate a fridge and make do that way. When not riding and going camping I load the rear tubs carefully and keep everything under the tub line so I can place the cover over everything. But let me say a great canopy setup like yours is also practical and looks awesome. Keep up the great content on your channel. Cheers.
Great rundown of your canopy set-up, I have been tossing up which way to go with my fridge and I reckon I will go with the upright Glacio 90L Portable Fridge Bar Freezer twin door as it has 20 litres freezer and 70 litres of fridge space. Gotta say I'm lovin' the bushman look mate, you should get a metal detector and gold pan because you're starting to look like Tony on Gold Rush.... lol
Haven't heard of the glacio before - looked em up and wow they are cheap . . . . Too cheap me thinks? rolasolar.com.au/glacio-90l-fridge-freezer-upright-12v-24v-240v-caravan-4wd-car-camping-black/
@@4x4touring47 I have read heaps of reviews on them and they seem to all be happy with it. It has all the bells and whistles that the Bushman has and has the same brand compressor. For under $500 on eBay with warranty may as well give one a shot.
What an awesome episode Tyler. Those new merch items look pretty damn good mate. I just realised how good your car and the whole setup is after that rundown. You know the flex you have now would cream any other brand ute that has leaf springs I reckon. Very impressed. Good work , your videos are never too long, it's a pleasure to watch. Ramble on as much as you like. 👍🏼👍🏼
If you won’t argue that rear is better than front then I will. Anyone who thinks a front locker is the way to go if you’re only going 1 locker you’re WRONG. Come at me. Love ya Tyler 😘
Awesome rundown Tyler, just what i wanted to see as i am just done designing my tray and canopy, and now trying to design a good layout for it when i start putting stuff in once all is done. Currently running a tub and DIY canopy, and its not optimal as its hard to have a neat and easy layout to get stuff in and out of from the sides. Keep them vids coming!
You seem very happy with your set up & it works for you. I still prefer the old school fridge where I can pack it full to the top. Just not fun when you need something out & it's at the bottom. Have you looked at front diff lock for yourself yet???
I see more of the tray set ups like yours, than most other types. It seems like that’s the latest way. Plus you don’t have a huge overhang of weight passed the rear axle.
I've done a lot of touring. What I've found is if you plan to do something like a Cape York trip, where you are camping somewhere new every night, then rooftop tent and tray/canopy is the go. If you like to go to somewhere like Fraser Island, and camp for a week or two in the same spot, then Camper Trailer is WAY better. If you are planning on camper trailer, then tray/canopy is totally unnecessary; tub with tourneau cover is perfectly adequate and once you park up the trailer you have a light car to hit the tracks with. If you cart dirt bikes, tray is by far the best.
Totally agree mate. This set up obviously works for Tyler and what he’s doing, it’s not for everyone. It seems a lot of people are putting tray and canopies on just for the looks. I’ve been camping all my life and still don’t have a fridge. I’ve got a couple of really good ice boxes that do the job just fine. I’ve comfortably camped in one remote spot with two adults and two teenagers for a week without any issues, including fresh water, creek water shower with a 12 volt pump etc... You keep things very simple and still enjoy the great outdoors. However, if I were travelling Australia, I’d definitely consider getting a set up the same as this. Awesome content and great videos Tyler, keep up the good work 👍🏽
Great idea with the containers in the Fridge. I have the same fridge and food and cans fall down the back between the shelves as as the shelves tends to slide forward slightly. Your idea will solve that!!! Where did you get them, so I can get the same???? Thanks legend!
