@@brillopower1492 Lovely quote. Gorgeous dog. Hound of some type? I don't know my hounds. My service dogs were all herding dogs. Again great quote. 👍🏻🐕
My wife and I had a still-born a few years back. It was my wife's childhood (teenage) desire to do Mountain Rescue with her very own hound one day. I bought him for her with that intention, but life has a funny way of letting crushing childhood dreams. My wife decided that really wasn't something she wanted anymore. She absolutly loves the hound but he is strictly a family dog. He loves playing with our older kids and has no problem with our toddler using him as a stepstool to help get on the couch. He's a very good boy.
“If you want peace, prepare for war” is a Latin aphorism that means peace can be achieved through strength. The phrase, si vis pacem, para bellum, is often interpreted to mean that a strong society is less likely to be attacked by enemies. It can also mean that if you face an aggressive adversary, you should build your military strength to deter them from attacking. This strategy is sometimes called “deterrence” and has been a key part of security strategies for centuries. The phrase is adapted from a statement in De Re Militari, a 4th or 5th century tract by Latin author Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus. Vegetius' work was considered the "military bible of Europe" for centuries because he was the first Christian Roman to write about military affairs. However, the idea is also present in earlier works, such as Plato's Nomoi (Laws). Some say that the mindset of “If you want peace, prepare for war” is necessary before even purchasing a firearm. This mindset includes: Awareness Making the decision to go armed Understanding that merely having a gun does not mean you are prepared Finding training that will enable you to use your new tool effectively and safely
As one who practices the right to bare arms on a daily basis, I applaud your closing two paragraphs, prefaced by a concise and relevant look at history, as being very well stated. Bravo!
While it's true that humans are conquerors by nature but more ingrained than that his our nature of being explorers. And exploring is a lot easier when you're not stuck in a war...
Personally the culture clash stories tend to be my favourite The war doctrine is a nice middle ground but the genre is so dominated with war and logical inconsistencies it’s hard to find good stories
Next to last line was good. It inferred to me that, looked on the fleet one last time, was because the two species never saw war between themselves or others .❤
Congrats to the author of this one. Thankfully it had lots less 1930s Saturday space serial and more actual psychology of species differences. It's hard to do tons in a 20 minute format but there was actually some character development. I enjoyed listening. One minor point for the author: if you spend the time, as you did, describing the aliens, make sure as you go.on that they don't suddenly become human primates with what suddenly seem to be identical spines, hands, etc., as you talk about them
frank Oscar, I agree, 100% with you. I couldn’t have said it better myself. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very well done. It’s probably one of the best ones I have heard.

@eblkii6314 so do I 😉 as do many more! I mean, look at Star Wars!! I'm just happy that not everything is one adjective like "Indomitable" all the time now.
Great story. Who knows maybe willl get to be that advanced if we are not destroyed by an asteroid, or an advanced specie that decides to attack and take us over or just destroy us, if they are afraid of us causing trouble for them someday in their region of space.
Humanity knows it has a terrible demon of rage inside that will tear itself if not anyone in their way apart. We keep that side silent and hold it in check. Metallica has a song "until it sleeps" that highlights that destructive side of humans. Gotta Keep that dark side of ourselves from getting out.
say for example that you have conquered a thousand planets, could you survive had all of them rebelled in unity? and what if out of a thousand allies only a hundred were to betray you? even a hundred enemies cannot be a significant threat when you have hundreds of allies
you repeat the school theme at the end but offer no enlightenment and the whole story is an uncanny valley full or repetitive stereotypes and tropes. disappointing.
