What you read,is partially correct. The process known as stratification,is a practice of placing the seeds in the fridge, and not the freezer(where ice sets) which helps to break the dormancy cycle of the seed. You provide cold and then when you bring it out and plant it in soil and give it warmth, the seed coat softens to threat degree, and the seed readily germinates.😊 However,i did not need to do that. I chose the ripe seeds, dried them and planted them and the seeds readily germinated.😊
Nice to see that it can actually be done. I've had my seeds on moist soil for a month and nothing has happens, so I've taken my last few and put them in a solo cup with water and hydrogen peroxide hoping for the best. If that fails, I'm buying bare root plants.

Hello. I followed your method and my my, I have more than 10 strawberry seedlings now. Half of them have started growing true leaves, I can see the oval, spear-shaped leaves. So thank you so much. I read through the comments and saw that your plants did not survive. May I know what caused it? I live in Malaysia and the weather can be pretty hot at times. Would you recommend that I placed the seedlings in a shaded area? I am quite hesitant as I read that strawberry seedlings require 8-12 hours of sunlight daily.
Hello😊 I am so glad to read your comment. Congratulations😊👍 I transplanted my plants the wrong way,and that is what killed them. You have to take extra care to save the plants from heat now. Keep trying Valerie😊 Even I didn't succeed past getting the seedlings to grow for half an inch, thanks to Kolkata heat. But then I keep trying every year. You need to do justice to your beautiful name. Be strong and keep trying💪 😊
Valerie Sanchez And Whismy Crafter they need to be in the sun for a few minutes like 5 or 4 minutes to not let them burn out and let them out of the sun for 1 minute then put it back and water it not to much once they’re like touching the plastic then it’s time to give them harsh sunlight
Hi Estefani, very good question. In the beginning I kept the cling film on, so that the seeds get enough warmth and moisture for germinating. However, once they germinated,I made holes on the cling film,so that any excess moisture inside the glass would dry out,snd the seedlings would have air circulation and wouldn't rot . Hope this helps😊
Thank you Neil. Your comment for a change, made me glad. 😅 Very few people opine that the audio in this video is relaxing😅 Anyway, thanks for watching. Stay tuned😊
Hi @whimsy craft. I hope you are well.I am very excited that my seeds germinated. My seedlings have now grown but they seem to be turning abit yellow in colour. Should I remove them from the direct sunlight? How long should I wait till I transplant it?
Hello Guys, In the comments below,I am getting complaints from a number of you regarding the background music of the video, which is,in the opinion of few, too loud. Well,I can mute out the video entirely but as a result what will happen is,the voice over will also get deleted. If you people are ok with just the visuals, please reply to this comment.I will remove the background cacophony altogether. I personally feel that you can just tune down your earphone volume,to deal with the problem,to a great extent.I do not find any problem in watching the video and as you can tell from the other comments, there are many who are absolutely fine with the audio.I would request you to kindly bear with the audio.
It's not that the music is too loud, but it is louder than your beautiful voice which makes it a bit difficult to hear your instruction. That is what they mean, but they are too lazy to say. Perhaps your audio is better than many of the devices we have, so in future videos, perhaps you could take that into consideration.
@@dinreigangmei6570 I cannot understand what you are asking. Are you asking how you can get strawberry seeds? You can harvest them off fresh strawberries,I have a video on it.Check it out.
Is it necessary to use cocopeat as the germinating medium or we can use any thing else coz it's about a week now but I haven't seen any sign of it growing
Hi,cocopeat is the only medium i tried and it worked for me and from the comments of my viewers on this video over the past few years,I have come to the conclusion that while many other media fail, cocopeat does not. Leaf compost is another medium to try. You can also use sand. I think the issue with other media is the moisture. Some dry out fast, and some don't...but with cocopeat it is somewhat consistent, especially in the cold weather. I suggest you give it some more time. Mine took quite long to germinate as you can see ...
@@WhimsyCrafter thanks, also you mentioned to water them from tray, so these plastic cups have holes under them, and we place them on water in tray, and water seeps from underneath to seeds?
Hi, I have managed to grow everything that I tried from seeds but failed to grow strawberries. Please help! Once I plant seeds on a clear plastic container with cling film, where do I keep the container for the seeds to germinate? I kept it in dark warm place in the past like the boiler room and not a single one germinated. But when I watched your video, I started getting hopeful again. Please let me know where do I keep the containers? By the window sill indoors so direct sunlight can get to it?Or outside in a greenhouse? Or dark warm place? Many thanks
I kept it under early morning sunlight in my east facing balcony. It received sun till 10 am😊 i also urge you to choose healthy seeds from fresh ripe strawberries. I have also made a video on how to do that and choose the best seeds. Please follow that.😊 Strawberries need light and hear to germinate. Plus the temperatures has to be between 18 to 23 degrees Celsius. Watch my video on 5 Tips for germinate strawberry seeds. It will definitely help you.
I planted my strawberries a week ago, and I jumped for joy when I saw the seedlings...I am also planting... Mint Parsley Peppers Forget me nots Lavenders (I forgot the rest 👁️👄👁️) All of them have seedlings now! So happy!!!
Very informative video ma'am. I kinda needed help with my strawberry plant. I had spotted very small red bugs under the leaves, which i thought were aphids. I sprayed the solution of liquid soap + ginger + water to the plant, esp under leaves, and in few days, insects have disappeared. But leaves started becoming brown. Growth has slowed down and new baby leaves are also having brown veins, and slowly turning brown. Am I killing the plant? How to protect it? I had brought plant in December, and in feb, it gave few fruits, but not it isn't growing much now (March). Is there life cycle for this plant..? Also, I tried this method for seeds, and it's been 15 days and i cant see any sign of germination. But I see small, nearly invisible fungus-like layer on top.... What should i do? Really sorry for long comment! But I really kinda need help, hoping I don't damage my plant
Thank you Angela 😊 no issues with lengthy comments. Always a pleasure to connect with my viewers 😃 Well the redbugs were spider mites I guess. They do tend to attack strawberries. I don't know where you're from but the seed germination does require some basic conditions. I got mine germinating at around 18 degrees Celsius,in winters . Your current plant soil might have absorbed some of that liquid soap when you sprayed it. Try washing down the foliage and spray it with ice cold water under the leaves at night. If the present plant dies,it will set off runners to reproduce. You can pot them up and get multiple strawberry plants from the existing one. Temperature is a factor when growing strawberries. Here in Kolkata the temperature changes so quick that my plants die of shock...they barely get time to adapt.
@@WhimsyCrafter Yes I think so too that temperature wasn't suitable for my plant. I live in Gujarat and right now (summer) it's reaching nearly 35 to 37 Celsius. I tried to revive my plant. I trimmed its leaves and now only stubs remain, but I think it won't be able to survive. As for seeds, I kept it in container and kept the container on my window, where it gets direct sunlight... Small plant came, but it too died in few days. I think climate isn't suitable :(

Umm..the whole point is to retain the necessary moisture and heat for the seeds to grow. Poking holes will hinder that. So letting it stay as it is till the seeds germinate is a good idea.
Sorry for your experience😢 I am afraid I can't remove the music now, else I will have to remove the video itself😢. If you have any queries, ask me,I will try to assist you.
Whimsy Crafter thanks for your response. I have 3 grandchildren from India. My daughter Thelma is married to Alpesh Patel and my daughter and son in law are now living in Nice southern France.alpesh is from Gujarat northern India All blessings in Jesus name
Nope..not a good idea. November onwards till early February is best. Other seasons will also work..but the seedlings will die off as soon as they germinate, unless you're using a green house..so it's a better idea to start off when the weather is congenial.

Whimsy Crafter Don’t mind me asking but i am curious to know which state you live in USA?I also live in USA and i love gardening.
@@preciousmoments1247 hello😊
I live in Kolkata,India.
Some videos on my channel have the location of USA on them because those videos are watched more by the viewers of USA. It is a technical manoeuvre,of sorts.
Glad to know that you too love gardening.
You can send me pictures of your plants on Instagram or Facebook @whimsycrafter.
I can feature your pictures on my page😊
I accidentally put all seeds in one spot , will it grow ? Plz answer i need help
Where are you from?
Very well explained. I will plant today.
Hey Syeda😊So glad you found my content useful. I am from Kolkata,India😊What about you?
Good luck and happy gardening😊👍
Just curious were you able to harvest strawberries from these plants?
No😅
Superb informative video.
Thank you very much.
So glad you found it useful. Stay tuned
I seem you are the sister of deepika padukon. Bcoz your voice👌👌❤❤
Hi, what was the temperature you had when the seeds were germinating ? would really appreciate it.
Hello Joshua..thanks for watching my content. It was around 18 degrees Celsius back them
Pls try to make an updated video on the strawberry plants
I am struggling to keep them alive,as the weather is fluctuating rapidly. 😢
All my hard work is being reduced to nothing.I am trying my level best.If I succeed in saving them, the update video will surely come up.
Hope they survive👍
Hi from day one I have to put out side for direct sunlight??
Yes,but not too harsh sunlight. If the 🌞 is too harsh..you can keep it in a brightly lit space
I think it's just me who has no luck growing strawberries. I had one but the sun burned them by the window . Thank you Texas heat.
Keep trying Valerie😊
Even I didn't succeed past getting the seedlings to grow for half an inch, thanks to Kolkata heat. But then I keep trying
every year.
You need to do justice to your beautiful name. Be strong and keep trying💪
😊
Looks like we're in the same boat with strawberry problems.
@@fluffythecat8144 will try and follow😊
Very nice demonstration.
Glad you liked it.
For everyone who's seeds are not growing I tried in October but they grew in February ☺ so don't worry
In my case it did not take so long. Good quality seeds always does the trick
Is it ok in March?
Not really. Depends on the area you live
I live in the Sahara dessert
It might be a difficult feat then. Still, never hurts to give it a try. Go ahead...
Please share whether there is no need to add water at the stage of germination
Cocopeat itself is a moisture retentive media so there is no need to water until the top surface of cocopeat becomes light brown in color
Why did you make holes after not at the beginning??
Hi Estefani, very good question.
In the beginning I kept the cling film on, so that the seeds get enough warmth and moisture for germinating.
However, once they germinated,I made holes on the cling film,so that any excess moisture inside the glass would dry out,snd the seedlings would have air circulation and wouldn't rot .
Hope this helps😊
Moisture heat germination
Very helpful, thank you. Your voice and the music was very relaxing by the way 😃
Thank you Neil. Your comment for a change, made me glad. 😅 Very few people opine that the audio in this video is relaxing😅
Anyway,thanks for watching. Stay tuned😊
What about seeds bought from flipkart
I need review before buying seeds from flipkart
Becoz i have some strawberry plants but it doesn't taste sweet
No idea about seeds bought off flipkart.
Hi @whimsy craft. I hope you are well.I am very excited that my seeds germinated. My seedlings have now grown but they seem to be turning abit yellow in colour. Should I remove them from the direct sunlight? How long should I wait till I transplant it?
They should be kept under indirect bright light when sprouted. You can transplant once they have 2 to 4 true leaves.
@@WhimsyCrafter thank you for the assistance.

Hello Guys,
In the comments below,I am getting complaints from a number of you regarding the background music of the video, which is,in the opinion of few, too loud.
@@missanna208802 I get it now,thank you.
Will keep it in mind in future. 😊
@Donna Lucero Yes! Spring is a beautiful season indeed. My pleasure Donna, stay tuned to my channel. :)

Could you give us an updated on how you separated all of the sprouts? Thank you for sharing 💖
Hello,Thank you so much for watching this video. Here is a video on how I thinned the seedlings.:
ua-cam.com/video/QQFqjX_btdY/v-deo.html
Hi. Do you water these seedlings every day by removing plastic film? or just once in the beginning while placing seeds?
Just in the beginning. If this is done in the winter months you won't need to water any time soon.
@@WhimsyCrafter thanks, also you mentioned to water them from tray, so these plastic cups have holes under them, and we place them on water in tray, and water seeps from underneath to seeds?
Yes😃
Please follow that.😊
Strawberries need light and hear to germinate. Plus the temperatures has to be between 18 to 23 degrees Celsius. Watch my video on 5 Tips for germinate strawberry seeds. It will definitely help you.

Thank you Monica. You are very kind😊
After covering the pot,do i need to watering everyday? Or after 7 days later?
Nope you don't need to until and unless the cocopeat turns light brown on top

Did you freeze the strawberry seeds? For how long did you freeze it?
No I did not. I planted them fresh from the fruit after harvesting and drying the seeds
the music was amazing and if you pay attention, theres a voice. joking, great video.
That was really kind of you Paulo.😊
Thank you. Stay safe😊
Always a pleasure to connect with my viewers 😃
Well the redbugs were spider mites I guess.
I think climate isn't suitable :(
*sis..the music was very distracting and the music was too loud*

Very bad background sound
Do you water seeds when you wrap with clingfilm or just leave them in the moistured soil
Nope..the cocopeat is pre moistened
@@WhimsyCrafter thank you
please make your next video without music
I have already started making videos without background music, because, as it turns out, it disturbs the entire experience.
Thanks for your suggestion though.

ua-cam.com/video/jGaqGpH5OZU/v-deo.html
And also can we germinate them in potting mix soil instead of cocopeat?
Ofcourse you can. Do gv it a try
Miss I want to give you a tip when you're on your page explaining how to grow something the music in the background is very disturbing because we can't understand what you're saying the music is drowning out everything you're saying we're trying to learn how to grow things but you guys playing this music while you're talking and that's very disturbing
Can I poke holes in the film from the beginning, or do I need to wait two weeks like you did before making the holes for air?
Umm..the whole point is to retain the necessary moisture and heat for the seeds to grow.
Poking holes will hinder that. So letting it stay as it is till the seeds germinate is a good idea.
I don’t think you’re suppose to do that much seeds in each pot... uhhhh...
I only put 2 seeds and I have healthy strawberries...
Everybody is not as lucky as you Sara😊
Whimsy Crafter :> Anyways! Thanks for da vid! I’ll also try your way 🙂
Sure
Do they need to stay for some period of time in the fridge with a wet towel???
I never use paper towel method. Does not work for me. Plus,I planted them straight off the fruit, did not keep them in the fridge.
Pl . Stop music. Ur voice not audible. Very harass music.
Sorry for your experience😢

Which season is good for germination?? Is it okay to germinate seeds in July/august
Nope..not a good idea. November onwards till early February is best. Other seasons will also work..but the seedlings will die off as soon as they germinate, unless you're using a green house..so it's a better idea to start off when the weather is congenial.
