@@AAron_Rides hi . My name is Chris. I have a 2020 zx 10r. I would like a bit more acceleration but not overgearing it. What do you suggest 17/40 or 17/41.? Stock is 17\39. I just ride street and fwy. Appreciate your input
@@christopheralonge7758 I wouldn't read too much into the sprocket sizes of the new Gen6 because it's gonna have a different transmission that the Gen5. a 16/39 (or 40) will give you a longer wheelbase (if you use a 116 link chain) which helps keep the from down, but will add a lot of acceleration performance. Cheers!
Jacob Hendrickson that’s possible but the chain only had 3-5 days on it. I put a Driven aluminum sprocket in with the same tooth count and it’s holding up much better after two full days.
What gearing did you end up with? I agree on setup. As I get quicker the more the details matter. I am headed to Fast Bike Industries to get my suspension sorted. I am -1, +2 on a Gen 4 and wonder if a -1 might be better.
Motorcycle Tuning Tips I’m at 16/39 right now. (-1/0) BUT that’s for longer tracks. I still believe -1/+3 is the right gearing for Tally. More rear suspension tuning is needed to get this to work.
Aaron Dearborn My gearing seems to be preferred by many, but it is a wheelie monster and tc kills the drive. As you say it is a setup tuning issue. I am going to give it another go with some changes next time out and go from there.
Motorcycle Tuning Tips yeah man, trying experimenting with the shock settings and the preload. And a turn or two of preload to help keep the nose down. Also try to stand up on the pegs, pushing your face into the dash as you exit. The weight on the front will help a lot.
Also that rear setup adding a 3mm shim and extending the rear shock at the same time is a lot I would think?? 3mm shim would add quite a bit of ride height alone wouldn’t it?? I’m assuming your research probably led you to this setup and I’m in no way a setup expert. Lol. Just making a opinion is all. With the 3mm shim being at the shock it seems it would add a good 10mm ride height at the rear?? Not sure just a guess
I didn't extend the shock that much. it's sitting at 312mm at the moment so adding a shim or three isn't massive. Now please also note: I'm using an MSS Performance link which will make my feelings different than what a typical stock setup produce. The point of this video is to show how much little changes affect the bike once you start going fast. The actual setup vs the rest of the world is irrelevant except as a before/after comparison.
What year is your ZX10R
2016 Gen5

Because internal gearing is shorter on gen 5 than gen 4. I need to be careful how I gear it. The new gen 6 2021 is running 17/41
@@christopheralonge7758 I used 16/39 with a 116 link 520 chain and that seemed to give the best overall performance at most tracks.

What do you mean specifically when you say front forks are "modified"?
They were extended 20mm, the spring was relocated from the bottom to above the piston and the valves are made by TSE.
@@AAron_Rides thanks. Finding my stock springs are too soft for my 220 lbs and track pace

Could be your chain eating up a sprocket that fast seems a bit harsh on any new sprocket. A stretched chain will eat a new sprocket for lunch.
