  • After a terminal diagnosis, activist Steve Hamm said he wanted to die consciously with his friends around him. Judy Alexander and about twenty friends committed to being his care team. In training meetings with professional end-of-life caregiver Kippi Waters, they learned what to expect, and were invited to express their own fears and concerns. Kippi’s advice: “The most important thing around the dying is to leave our philosophies and the way we think it should look - at the door.” Judy noted that few people are comfortable talking about death, and that being willing to have the conversation is a huge gift. She believes that many people would choose to die as Steve did: at home, surrounded by family and community who team with hospice to keep them comfortable. Episode 322.

Wow I love this so much... I love those lady's and what they are trying to do... Means so much to me I was just wondering if others felt and knew the things I knew about leaving in loving gaze, arms or presence of a caring person. I remember a life time ago and I don't know how I would be if I didn't get shown love as I was dying it took me to heavens arms. :') so happy to see this video. 🌈🎎🌳☀️💙💚💛

Those are beautiful insights into the dying process; especially for someone like me who has little experience of it. Makes me wonder why death with a community 'team' is not more common. Thanks for sharing Janaia, Robin, Judy and Kippi.

I love watching your videos. They are very informative. What is the name of the song played at the beginning of the videos? It's a beautiful song, full of life.

"Perilous Dawn", royalty-free music from Getty Images. Even the name seems to fit with the themes that inspired us to create Peak Moment TV.

I love the philospy here, but I wonder why I should die consciously. Death is painful and I would rather do that unconsciousy. You lose consciousness in the end anyway, so why cling to it???

Death is not necessarily painful; the medical world is very good with pain management (palliative care). OSHO, a spiritual teacher, says that we go through death taking only our awareness with us as we leave the body (that sentiment is echoed by many other teachers). So we shift our consciousness from the physical world to some other consciousness. I think I'd rather be in an energy field of love and support while making the transition.
