    My hair stylist of 20 years now .. this happened about 10 years ago ... he was soooo nice ... one piece was too light in the bang area I called him and told him I am sorry but it really bothers me and was willing to pay for the correction... he said no problem ... fixed it with a smile ... thanked me for giving him a chance to fix it and gave me a blow out complimentary... such a sweet guy ... that's why I still go to him

      ellebangs I think definitely absolutely Shakira 100% all the way. I look at you and see Shakira, not Kaley Cuoco. My opinion. I even messaged some pictures of Shakira to I think your Monat page, because I didn't know what page to send them to and I don't know if you've ever seen them or not.😊

    A rant: I'm a waitress and I relate to this. Some people are just the most miserable people ever, and they have this mentality that they know more then any service person they come into contact with. There is no way to do your job right when it comes to these people. They seek things out that they can complain about just to be superior as if they could do our job so much better as if it's just SO easy, when in reality they wouldn't last a day in our work shoes with their type of attitude. Please be kind to strangers! It makes the world so much better

    I once had a client 15 mins late for blow dry appointment...then complained she was in a hurry and needed to be out at a certain time....are we meant to wave a magic wand and give perfect hair in 20 minutes?????

    • @HosCreates
      @HosCreates 7 років тому +1

      woah ! if it was my hair especially if it was long I'd give my hair dresser 45min-an hour to get me perfectly dry ! I have thick hair . it takes 20 min to dry as a pixi/bob !

    • @sendieloo
      @sendieloo 7 років тому +10

      lorraine mc clorey I've had the opposite experience believe it or not. My long time stylist took walk ins like 15 minutes before my appointment. She even took a client that was two hours late at my appointment time. I had to wait 1.5 hours to get mine done. I can't believe I waited. The next time I walked into my appointment and she said she wanted to get this male client (her boyfriend) in real quick before me. I sat down seething then walked out and never looked back! I now have a wonderful and considerate stylist!

    • @squirmtastic
      @squirmtastic 7 років тому +2

      Noelle Collette This is exactly why I never go to the salon. I'm so unwelcome and I make everyone's day bad just because I have alot of hair. Like I'm so fucking sorry you have to do your job and that I was born like this.

    • @ginam1113

      @@sendieloo I have the same name & the same issues. My hair stylists always stops what she's doing to my hair to take a walk-in. She does an amazing job on my eyebrows & facial waxing that why I still go to her.

    I don't think the client knows that they can't go from black to blonde in a day in my experience most don't understand this

    • @vasilijamirkovic2104
      @vasilijamirkovic2104 7 років тому +2

      Angeline Biswas Yeah, like they want to go from the darkest hair color to really light color in one day, like it's obvious it's not really possible to happen that fast

    • @rosemurphy6424

      Guy Tang does it...even though it takes many hours -it actually can be done.

    • @danygabis9800
      @danygabis9800 7 років тому +20

      It actually can be done, my hair stylist did it to me but mainly because my hair lifts impossibly fast. Everyone's hair is different though and yeah the expectation of brown to blonde in a day is almost impossible and highkey dangerous

    • @KHR327fan
      @KHR327fan 7 років тому +5

    • @ElegantSkies
      @ElegantSkies 7 років тому +4

      dan gabis your hair lifts fast for these possible reasons: it's never been previously colored( virgin), your hair texture - finer hair typically lifts faster, your hair is in the medium blond range( level 6). :D just thought I'd mention that lol

  • @Lashlove16
    @Lashlove16 7 років тому +71

    On another note ... going to your appointment late just upsets the schedule for every client that the hair stylist is scheduled for and they then have to rush everyone to try to keep up ... it's not fair on the hair stylist nor their clients

      Exactly, when I was a paid stylist, as opposed to self employed, I had a rule, if you were more than 20 mins late, you forfeited your appointment as it would mean every client after you I would be running behind for and they would all blame me. Now I’m self employed, I’ll fit you in, but for a shortened service that won’t make me late. Eg, you don’t get scalp massage or a blow out, you just get a dry off!

    Great video! What you spoke on is relatable in most occupations that involve working with people. Unfortunately, we live in extreme " it's all about me" times and many people have become rude and inpatient. Many consumers don't / won't recognize that everyone have days where they're experiencing something difficult in their life and that you are doing your best to assist them despite what may be troubling you :( I work in health care field. Love your videos ♡

    I have worked in retail and now banking but I love hair so that is why I enjoy watching you. I totally agree that people are so sensitive and crazy. Most do not use common sense and it just blows my mind how they do not feel for us. We are all equal and we are not machines that can make miracles happen in seconds. We need to be more compassionate and understandable of others. No need to be rude and nasty if I didn't do nothing to you.

    I'm a color specialist and an educator for a major hairdressing company and I can relate to this so much. I think more of these true stories would be a good series to have on this channel. Hairdressers can relate and clients can maybe see things from a different perspective. It's education and entertainment rolled into one.

    As a fellow hairstylist, I appreciate this video. It makes me feel better, not that this happens to you {because it is frustrating as hell} just the fact that I'm not the only one that still goes through this. Nothing worse than planning out time for someone only for them to be late/not show up them play the victim card when they are called out on it.

    Thank you, Elle. I've been a hairstylist for 45 yrs. Well said. A stylist I worked with who went on to another line of work, said if she had "let go" the few annoying clients that upset her week, she'd still be in the business. It's unfortunate because she was the best stylist I ever worked with.

    I have been learning SOOOO much from watching your videos! Thank you for being so brutally honest. I guess its easier to be honest when you are on the internet and not talking directly to someone and afraid to hurt their feelings.
    My best friend from high school and through college is a cosmetologist, and although she would advise me, use me as a hair model, give me a lot of free services when practicing things, etc, I now realizes she probably held back a LOT. When we moved to opposite ends of the country I was devastated and my hair showed it. Then my brother-in-law got a stylist girl friend and for a few years my hair looked awesome again for a few years, but they broke up, and her shop is really far away.
    Thankfully I found someone who is a color genius, but IDK about the cut yet. I also had other friends through the years who were stylists, and I always thought I could ask anything, but never heard anything as honest and informative as these videos.
    Thanks! You are awesome!

    Very good video. I think alot of women still think they can plop themselves in a hairstylists chair and think the hairstylist is a "MAGICIAN" and you guys are not. I think you made some really good points in your video about respect and communication between hairstylist and client and that's really important. There is consideration for your viewers and how they will feel when hearing what you have to say. You have your points to get across and you aren't bringing anyone down while doing so and its very much appreciated to listen to :) Also, i would love to know what I would have to ask my hairdresser for to achieve your hair colour! I had one done for the first time a month ago , the lady didn't give me any instruction or a list of what to use or not to do until I google it and realize I have ruined the treatment . It work for like 3 weeks and my hair is now going back to its frizz problem. I worked out, and made sure I flat iron my hair every night (you are not supposed to work out for 3 days, that's what google said) she didn't recommend no shampoo brand , you are not supposed to touch you hair , and I did that . Just a lot of things I would of appreciate to know since I was there for 3 hrs .

    Do it!! I love stuff like that! Theres been people who have done my hair who obviously like red tones. The whole place had red toned blondes and browns. I asked for neutral ashy blonde. I got a golden strawberry.. There was also a beauty instructor at a college who told her students NOT to weave my lowlights!! They also called me brown headed. The bleach turned my hair white and the girl screamed! HAHAAH!!! I ended up with squares of mousy brown color all over my head. Ive also wondered how you guys stand on those heels all day scrunching over people!! Kudos!! PS I still want your hair color.

You never bash anyone, if anything you make everyone feel free to ask you anything. I work for a demanding type of company and people always try and haggle or are always running late, idk where they get off. Just stay true to yourself and keep doing you! BTW - I loved your video about when you took the state exam, i'm thinking about getting into eye lash extensions and brow enhancement industry and I love to hear how people in that line of work got started and what they had to go through, very interesting. - Your killing it! :)

    I truly enjoyed this kind of video, when people are at work, we are performing on a stage for a customer. It is cool and interesting to get behind the scenes footage. It is a little scary because so many people are sensitive and take things personal, but I think if we can't laugh and enjoy our daily reality we are not truly connecting. I've been a bartender for 15years... our industries our very similar. I totally get you, and have been think to do something similar in a blog. Boy, do I have stories 😉

    I am a hair dresser who has not practiced in a long time but I do know the language so to speak, I never lost that. My base colour turned a carmel colour and the highlights were brassy. So I went in asking for the brass gone and the bass over all colour to change to more of an ash tone. My hair pulls a lot of red and I told her that too. She used 20 V on the base colour which turned my roots light red and did nothing significant to the base colour. She said I used 20v cus we did not have 10 ( so why didn't she dilute it then), So it lifted. To top it off, she styled my hair to cover up the worst light red parts. She blamed the cheap hair colour.... I phoned her the next day and asked her to correct it. This time we went to the other salon she worked at part time and all she did was put more highlights in (and not my full head) and did not do anything about the base colour. So I am left with yellow highlights, on the top and sides, underneath this aweful carmel colour mixed in with brass. She is no longer working, so to get this fixed, what are my options? She assured me she is a blond expert who can take brass out. I don'[t use any heat on my hair and now it feels like straw.

    I love you SO much. You are seriously awesome and you made sense. The only thing I would say is that maybe the people who have black hair and want it lighter don't realize the long process it takes. They didn't go to school they clearly aren't knowledgable like you are, that's why they are coming to you. Thinking of it that way might help ease your frustration when a client wants that. That's just my opinion and I love you!

    Hi Silvia! So glad you did this video because I have a related question - I had my hair done at a salon around 2-3 weeks ago (full head of highlights) but it was a few days later when I washed my hair that I noticed that there must have been a blob of bleach right where I always put my parting - I think it's very noticeable, but also I'm upset because I don't really get the time to go to the salon, so have to take the day off work and it wasn't a cheap visit either. I happen to have the day off tomorrow and was wondering if it would be ok to pop into the salon to talk to them about it. I'm an anxious person in general and it's not really something I want to take up with them because the lady who did my hair is a nice person with a nice character, but I really disappointed about what she has done to my hair. Do you think it would be ok to go in a talk to them about it at this point? Thanks Silvia x

    Actually your flight can get delayed in the air. Happened to me, ended up sitting in a plane on the tarmac at a different airport than we were supposed to land at (because of weather) waiting for an undetermined time for the airport staff to figure out what to do with us. But then again I'm not stupid enough to assume I can make a hair appointment for a time I am "supposed" to be already off the plane and out of the airport.

    Hi Silvia I really appreciate your honesty and sharing your amazing knowledge about hair and being a hairdresser. I learned so much from this video and one thing I can take away is value someone's time. I am notorious for being late to club meetings at school and the senate who is also my friend complains to me about it but in a joking way no harm lol! Definitely something I need to work on so I can be early or on-time to events in the future 😄 I love you Silvia and keep up the positive spirit you have❤️🙏

    • @GrannyZanna
      @GrannyZanna 7 років тому +1

      Melissa Artman and Rocio Lira, Try this to help you stop being a "late person": Focus on the time you need to be out the door in order to arrive on time or 5 mins early. Be brutally realistic and include the time it takes you to walk to and from your car, driving time, parking, etc. Working backwards from the time you need to be out the door, subtract the amount of time you need to get dressed, find your keys, feed the cat, etc. Write the time you absolutely must be out the door in red ink on a sticky note and post it where you are sure to see it (I put mine on the front of the microwave or on my computer screen or bathroom mirror). This process works and will become second-nature to you eventually.

Its very easy to find a celebs hair style/color/cut we love but it just cant be translated onto everyones hair. You seem like the such the nice and genunely kind type of person who would go out of their way to give a client what they want BUT even you have limits. Id love to come to SF, maybe someday. ellebangs I would love to get my hair done by you. I'm stuck in hairstylist neanderthal country called Germany were hairstylist still don't know what Olaplex is. All my top layer hair broke when I got platinum blonde highlights (touch up for my platinum blonde hair I got from an awesome hairstylist in London). Here they don't even understand that "hot root" thing or that overtoning leads to blue patches. Like HELP. I learned more about hair from you, Sylvia.
      Anyone reading this and knows an actually good hairstylist (who knows how to deal with above mentioned stuff) near Frankfurt. Send me a rescue message!!

    • @elrisha
      @elrisha 7 років тому +6

      You should switch then, if you're experiencing the same thing over and over. It's so important to have a good chemistry with your hairdresser so they understand what you want and don't overrun you.. There are a ton of good hairdressers out there, just ask family and friends who they go to and if they are happy with their hairdresser :)

      I'll trade you -- my hair grows INSANELY fast, but every time I go to the one affordable clinic near me, they always want to cut off the tiniest bit off the ends (either they want me to come in more frequently, or think I'll be upset if I lose any length, either way -- so frustrating to keep asking them to go back and cut more!)

    • @chasey1978
      @chasey1978 6 років тому

      They should give you what you want not what they want. But you do need to communicate that to them and make sure you aren't just going along with them just to get upset later.I have no problems with a stylists opinion if I ask but other than that no.

  • @emilydeasy7986

    one perspective to keep in mind is that from the client's point of view, sometimes you actually do get a bad experience, it's not always that the client doesn't understand the process. it can be very challenging to get a bad colour job and then feel like the stylist wants to avoid responsibility. I have fair hair to start with and have got my fair share of highlights, so I understand how much my hair can lift. I went to a very well-known salon and asked for cool tones and came out with darker orange yellow tones. I went back twice and felt like the stylist didn't admit that something went wrong. eventually I tracked down another stylist that I had been going to before and he was able to give me exactly what I wanted in 1 appointment. I paid more in the first salad but both were not cheap, so in all it was a stressful and expensive experience. I guess my point here is that I completely understand that hair stylists have more understanding in general, but sometimes things just don't turn out right and it's important to take responsibility when that happens. Love your videos 💞

      Jos assistance won't see the tip unless it's cash; tip 20 percent the job is so strenuous and demanding plus we deal with the public and do s big service for a highly reduced rate especially in more rural areas
