Nice video. Btw, eBay asking prices often have no resemblance to the actual worth. CR78s and WS1 sell for a fraction of the rather speculative prices you displayed. But yes, it’s a great machine.
Thank you and agreed to that. This is just based on what the prices are out on places like eBay and Reverb but I have seen a price tag of $1,500 here in New York of people I know that have studios. Cheers!
I can feel it in the air tonight
Oh no! 🎶🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I have one of these! Yeah they're kinda pricey, but to me it was worth every penny as it's been my favorite drum machine of all time for countless years, long before I got one.
On mine I installed the mod from TaunTek that adds MIDI capability as well as a bunch of other extremely useful features (like incorporating the functions of the WS-1 programmer into the existing front panel controls which can be activated by mashing down the Shuffle, Slow Rock, and Swing buttons together). There are a few mods available for this box but the TaunTek one is the least invasive to install and has the most benefits IMO.
I like that indeed is not invasive since I like to keep the drum machines as original as possible, but having MIDI capabilities and WS-1 functions sounds like a great deal. Thanks for watching!
Hello, thank you for the video. Would be fine if you can show how to do the programming with a sustain pedal. My Probleme here is i can trigger the sounds with the pedal but if the machine runs and i press one of the yellow program buttons, the machine stops … any ideas what do i wrong? Big thanks forward
Hi and thanks for watching, unfortunately, I do not have a pedal for my CR-78 but double-check the "Memory W/D" switch on the CR-78. If it's accidentally flipped to "Write" (W), pressing a yellow button will stop playback and put the machine in programming mode to record a new pattern. Make sure it's in "Play" (D) for playback without accidentally entering programming mode.
If that doesn't work check if your machine doesn't have a faulty switch, if the "Memory W/D" switch is set correctly and playback still stops when you press a yellow button, there might be a malfunction with the switch itself. Your CR-78 might need repair, you can check online there are plenty of resources that might help you if that is the case. I hope that helps...
Hello, thank you for the replay. I will check that soon when I am back n the computer museum i am working for. But, if i wanna Program something, do i not must set the switch to write more? Big thanks forward
great video thanks..looks brand new!
Thanks for watching! I was able to buy one in very good condition around 5 years ago.
The CR-78 still remains the best of all time.
Yes! A timeless machine
Good video I have a cr-68 it's fun but not like a cr-78. Good video I do vintage tutorials as well. I'm gonna have to sub!
Hey! Thanks I am going to subscribe to yours, too
@NostalgicExplorer thanks man I appreciate that as well! Very greatful. I'll keep a look out for your new drops.
I was very pleased when in 2023 the TR-8s got a CR-78 upgrade 😊
A nice upgrade!
Regarding the presets, back in the 80s/90s it was more common than not to use the factory settings for synths/drum machines. If you tried to program a DX7 you can understand why. They simply didn't mess with it. Maybe changed a filter or two, but that was it.
Oh yes, the DX7 is so hard to program, I will not mess with that today.
Just its form factor alone is epic.
Still my favourite Drum Machine
It is in my top 10 for sure!
Canvas SC88 which nowadays is pretty much useless. The only reason why I still have it, is because the TR and CR sounds are still great. In particular the CR78. I still love that.
Yes, the sounds are highly recognizable and really cool.
I think Blondie had the kick muted and they added a 4onthefloor kick of their own. I could be wrong.
I like the idea for this channel...subscribed!
I think you are probably right about the Blondie part and thank you so much for the support!
Nice video but the prices you quote aren't the actual sold for pricesc which believe me is a huge difference. 😉
Thank you so much and yes, I know prices are lower but it is just an overview of what is out there on pages like eBay or Reverb. Cheers!
hOW CAN YOU DO A FEATURE ON THE cr 78 AND NOT MENTION jOHN fOXX AND THE mETAMATIC ALBUM?
I just mentioned Ultravox, where he was a former member. Metamatic is full of CR78, you are absolutely right!
100! :)
If you get the pedal and make a video programming it, I will watch and subscribe. :)
You are asking too much 😂
If I’m right it was about £5000 in 1978 when it came out 😬
That's a lot of money for 1978.
I wonder if the Behringer clone will be any good and when it finally hits the shops... 4 years in the cloning... 😴
I have no idea but there are some good options out there already as well as the Cherry Audio plug in.
@@NostalgicExplorer yes, but I really, really, really detest software. It's a necessary evil but I'm at the stage where I have frozen my entire music computer in terms of updates or buying new software. It pisses me off immensely, lol.
@@GNeuman I am going through the same phase and find myself taking forever to make music using DAW. Being dawless I finish songs 😆. But as you said, it is a necessary evil sometimes.
@@NostalgicExplorer thanks for replying, nice channel btw👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
AI.
🤔 no, this is CR-78
