- Is a Walts Worm the best Euro Nymph pattern? I don’t know! But I do know that its a always a staple fly pattern in my fly box.
Originally tied by Walt Young from Altoona Pennsylvania, the fly is still growing in popularity. Over the last few months while working in the fly shop, I get the question from a lot of beginner fly fisher people asking about the pattern the walt’s worm. Super cool to see the sport growing and expanding so fast.
Try tying the walts worm in various weights and colors. Simple, Fast, Fly Tying. Tied with Fulling Mill Hooks and Beads.
Hope you enjoy the video!

Thanks for a new tyer this is perfect. This season im only going to use flies i have tyed myself
best regards from the UK.
It doesn’t get any simpler than that. Thank you for sharing!
I switch between these, some midges, prince nymph , and a scud pattern I tie all year and they all catch fish. It's amazing how good this fly is as long as you have it in the right zone it's rare that something won't take it lol love your vids man.
That ribbing is bloody brilliant. Never thought about that
great job, i love your second camera, it makes it more personnal ,,
Simple yet effective pattern.
I have made some size 18.Very nice looking flies, and it catches fish.
First I am enjoying reading your book, "Euro Nymphnig". It is concise and very informative. I do have one question though. In the section giving fly patterns (pgs. 74 - 78) are the hooks sizes relative to a Hanak of FullingMill hook? I measured and found that besides the bigger hook gap of the FullingMill 5125, the only difference between the Hanak H450BL and FM5125 is the hook length. So, a Hanak H450BL #14 is essentially equal to a FullingMill FM5125 #16. I'm currently using a FullingMill FM5125. My assumption is that they are relative to FullingMull since you are one of their signature tyers.
Well done Josh. Pretty much I carry probably a few dozen Walt’s worms that are scattered throughout my many boxes and sone have hot spots abs others don’t. I carry mostly 3.0 beads on the Walt’s but have a few with 2.5 inverting beads and a few with 3.5 and 4mm beads just in case I need that bomb fly.
Which Fulling Mills hook were you using?
Great instruction!
I use this now. I took a weekend course from Josh and 'sasquatch.'. They used this fly exclusively. Works really well.
Great little vid with clear explanation. Why no wire rib?
Hey Josh . I just read your new book which is great btw , congrats !
I noticed you don’t use this hook in your patterns in the book . Which model dry fly hook do you use for the Walt’s ? Thank you .
Very nice euro nymph pattern !
Simple!
Same principle , back in early 90’s in my heyday of steelhead fishing in Erie and Ohio I was tying sz 16 and 18’s pheasant tails and hares ears that I sized down on bigger hooks like10’ s and 12’s. It gave that wider gape to hook those fish and not break. Today there are many more selections of hooks than was back then !
Nice one! One of my go to patterns as well!
Great tie
Thanks Cuzin Dan!
I have noticed you use no head cement on most if not all your flies thank you mark
Great tutorial. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words!
Super video thank you
Nice tutorial with great information regarding hook and bead sizes. What is your favorite olive dubbing?
I like to use the olive with slight brown mixed in!
Just learning. Very helpful
Thank you, great video. The video seems a bit dark, though, not as easy to see the details as in many others. It's very helpful how you explain your thought process and reasoning.
Have to try it👌🙂
Thanks for the clear and easily followed tutorial. Could you tell me what hook brand and model you would choose if you didn't want to use a jig hook?
Good stuff buddy
Property the slowest josh Miller has ever tied a walts worm
Hahahahaha soooo true!!!
@@TroutYeah What is the Fulling Mill #. They appear to have several that are similar eg. FM5125 and FM5045 both jig wide gap barbless. Thanks.
@@nickweber1255 5125
My man!!
Thanks!
Is it essential to always use a jig hook?
so i know it’s important to have different sizes of the same pattern for different water depths and cfs. instead of changing the hook size you would just use bigger beads?
I love Miller Time
Tim!!
great video!
What kind of hook are you using?
what model hook is that from Fulling Mill?
Doesn't look like much, but it's a guaranteed fish catcher.
It is super simple, getting overlooked often!
Perfect
What is the number associated with this wide gap hook, my friend?
Would you change anything in this fly if using it by itself (not as a dropper)?
Do you like to make your own dubbing blend or do you have a favourite commercial blend
That was from some rabbits my wife had as her pets! But I will usually purchase Hareline Dubbing!
@@TroutYeah Thank you! Keep up the good work with the videos :D
Wich dubbing have you used ?
What model jig hook is that?
What brand of dubbing did you use ?
That was just a simple cut of natural rabbit dubbing. My wife had a few rabbits over the past few years. She would brush huge hairballs of fur from them, so I didn't have any shortage of natural dubbing colors! But, Mostly purchase from Hareline!
What size hook and bead do you like best to tie this pattern with?
Mostly #14-16 with 2.5-3.2mm tungsten beads!
Can you give me the number of typ the jighook fulling mill
Josh hold on, need the model # of hook.
John! Its the FM5125!
What is your favorite color bead ?
Hello! I like to use copper and silver for sure. Pink and gold I will use sometimes !
@@TroutYeah thank you
Good demo but your audio needs to be louder.
Very little for the fish to refuse there
Keep it simple!
Audio 🔉 was poor, otherwise good video.
fix your sound ! Nice video but the sound quality sucks.
