Very cool video!!! However, I have only one problem. After installing BeatEdit for DaVinci Resolve, it is displayed in the workspace under Scripts - mamoworld tools - BeatEditForResolve, but unfortunately no window opens like yours after I clicked on it. Do you have a solution for this? Thank you!

did you install Resolve using the Apple’s App store?
The version that is on the App store does not support third party extensions like BeatEdit, unfortunately. I find it a very strange decision from Black Magic Design, that they offer such a limited version on the App store. But if you have installed it via App store, the only option you have is to uninstall Resolve and install it again with the download from the Black Magic Design Website.

Thank you. I do like a lot the subtitles marks. My problem is that when I am in the Cut page of Resolve and I cut my clip to the subtitles, the subtitles get also cut. Is there any way to avoid this?

Thank you for this great timesaver (or maybe time counter!) - I cannot make it work for timeline markers. Though the audio clip I have designated IS in the timeline, BeatEdit says "No Beat Markers Created, please make sure the song is contained in the active timeline! The song is in the timeline however. Creating Clip markers goes through it's process, but then no markers actually show up in the clip. What am I doing wrong ?
The behavior with the timeline markers really sounds odd. Two thoughts here:
1. Maybe you have two copies of the audio file and have the one copy in the timeline and the other copy opened in BeatEdit? The file path on disk really needs to be the same in BeatEdit and the timeline
2. Does your file path contains some unusual symbols (say a question mark or quote symbol in the file or folder name) ? If this is the case, does it work if you rename it to avoid such symbols? But if BeatEdit cannot find the file despite it being there, my first guess would be that it does not find it because something strange happens with the filename, such that it does not look like the filename anymore that BeatEdit is looking for.
Clip markers:
Note that when you create clip markers, those markers won’t show up on clips which you already have in the timeline. You have to insert the clip in the timeline AFTER you created the clip markers. If you already had the music track in the timeline, just delete it and insert it in the timeline again to see the markers. Do the clip markers show up then?
@@mamoworldcom Thank you for the feedback. I DID suspect that maybe there may be two instances of the file in the project from slightly different places, so I brought the audio clip in again, from the verfied place, spun up a new timeline and tried again without success. I WAS able to generate the click track audio file though, and ultimately that was enough to help me finish this particular project and have the cut on tempo. I will be going back and seeing if I can narrow down the problem. I can tell you that the audio was on a local instance I have of dropbox - not sure if that may have had an effect. Thank you again!
@@bobbonniol Thank you for the detailed feedback! I haven't heard of any issues with files from Dropbox, but it is definitely worth trying if moving the file somewhere else solves the issue. In that case please let me know, as this may affect other users, too.
Some more thoughts concerning the missing clip markers:
Another reason why you might not see clip markers is that your track is maybe not high enough:

Also note that the Edit tab of Resolve shows both clip markers and timeline markers whereas the Cut tab only shows timeline markers. So if you want to work in the Cut tab, clip markers are not an option.
Finally, note that In the View menu, under Show Markers, you can turn off the visibility of all (or specific colored) markers. This does not explain the error message you got for sequence markers, but could be an explanation for the missing clip markers.

Any reason for that - and any way to change or tune what it does?
I got it to make a click track and then trimmed to correct it - but wouldn't want to do this every time I use it

does the song have a constant tempo or is there maybe some kind of break/delay in the middle such that the constant tempo the tool predicts only fits to some part and not to the full song? If so, make sure to deactivate the "quantization" option of BeatEdit. If this is not the issue, you can also open a support ticket at aescripts and attach the song. Then I can check myself what exactly is going wrong. In general, for techno music the beat detector should give pretty good results.

what can i do if beatedit doesnt create the markers on the 1 of the music track like if its off beat or so? in the premiere version i could check and i could troubleshoot till it is right on time with the music before i add the markers into the timeline?
The Resolve version does not have this feature (yet) since the scripting API of Resolve does not support such complex user interfaces including a full audio player with waveform preview. The best workaround for now if you want to offset the beats:
1. create a beat click audio file
2. shift the beat click file in time until you like the location of the beats
3. shift the music clip now temporarily, too, such that it starts where the beat click file starts, and create timeline markers
4. move the music clip back to its original location.
Now the markers should be exactly, where the beat clicks are, too.
Hallo, finde das Tool sehr interessant und möchte es gerne kaufen! Verwende Davinci jedoch auf dem Ipad. Funktioniert es damit auch, bzw. ist eine Version geplant?

Hallo André, bisher unterstützen wir die iPad-Version nicht und ich konnte bisher auch nirgends Infos dazu finden, ob Scripte von Drittanbietern in Zukunft in der iPad-Version unterstützt werden. Wenn Apple und Blackmagic Design in Zukunft die Voraussetzungen schaffen, dann wäre das auf jeden Fall interessant für uns.
Sehr cooles Video!!! Ich habe jedoch nur ein Problem. Nach der Installation von BeatEdit for DaVinci Resolve wird mir das wie bei dir im Workspace unter Scripts - mamoworld tools - BeatEditForResolve angezeigt, jedoch öffnet sich da leider kein Fenster wie bei dir, nachdem ich es angeklickt habe. Hast du da evtl. eine Lösung parat. Danke dir!
Siehe meine englische Antwort unten :-) Ich vermute, dass du die Resolve-Version aus dem Mac-Appstore hast. Diese Version ist leider nicht mit Extensions wie BeatEdit kompatibel und es hilft nur DaVinci Resolve zu deinstallieren und von Blackmagic Design neu herunterzuladen und zu installieren.

You can install a single user license on up to two machines if both machines are yours and it is not used on both at the same time. Hence, buying a single user license is enough for your.

Hello, i tried the trial version, everything was fine except when i tried to creat Beat Clicks, it says : unable to create, check console. is it because of trial version?
No, this is must be a different issue. Could be an antivirus software blocking the process, which creates the file, for example. Please open a support ticket at aescripts.com/contact/ and include as many details as possible. Best also a screenshot of the console window after the error occurs (The console window of Resolve can be opened using the menu Workspace->Console).
At first everything seemed to work fine, but now when I try to open it, it closes automatically and doesn't allow me to do anything. It closes so fast that I can't even see the script window. I have uninstalled and/or reinstalled and nothing seems to fix the problem. I want to buy the Audition version but I'm afraid the same thing will happen. I need to solve this problem urgently. I am working on version 18 of DaVinci Resolve Studio. All the other scripts I have purchased work perfectly except this one. I have already opened a report with this problem!
I am sorry to hear that you have issues with BeatEdit. I don't have a support ticket from you in my inbox. Are you sure you submitted a ticket and choose BeatEdit as the product? (otherwise the ticket will be assigned to the author of the product you've chosen). To get help asap open a ticket here:

In general, your issue sounds like an antivirus is blocking some processes of BeatEdit. Does it work if you disable your anitivirus software temporarily? In your ticket, best show screenshots or even better a screencapture of the steps you try to do. Also would be interesting to see if any error messages show up in Resolve's Concole window. The more details I know, the quicker and better I am able to help.
Concerning Audition: BeatEdit for Audition and for Resolve are very different. If one of the does not work, it does not necessarily mean that the other one doesn't work either. Still, I recommend that you test with the free trial before you buy a license.

Do you get any error messages?
How did you install BeatEdit? If you installed it manually, did you make sure to copy not only the BeatEditForResolve.lua file, but also the BeatEditForResolve_Files folder? Does it help if you uninstall and install the tool again using the aescripts + aeplugins manager app (aescripts.com/learn/aescripts-aeplugins-manager-app/)?
If you open the console (in Resolve’s main menu Workspace->Console), does it show any errors or other messages when you try to run the beat detection?
Best send screenshots of the logs and errors.
Do you have a file beatedit_log.txt in your temp folder (to open the temp folder enter %tmp% in the path at the top of Windows Explorer). If this file exists, could you please send it to me?
Does it help if you disable your antivirus temporarily? If so, the antivirus softwareis blocking the ffmpeg process or the beat detection process (ibt.exe).
The more details I know the quicker and better I am able to help.

Some time ago, I wrote a negative comment (my first use of the BeatEdit plugin for DVR, accidentally with the "bad" song). My comment was deleted, which I do not find fair, as it can be useful for others...
BUT!
I gave it a few more chances and here are my findings:
1. It actually works - well somehow
2. For some songs, it is amazingly precise
3. For some other (most of it), it correctly detects the BPM, but wrongly sets the clip marks (this is the only way of use which makes sense to my workflow) - probably because it fails to find the start of the song properly - in this case, however, I can still use the calculated BPM and use the Fairlight page to set my own beat marks
4. For some more songs (rarely) it totally fails to detect the beat (only a few songs so far - unfortunately the very first one I tried - those which actually do not have any expressive/regular beat - at least not for the machine)
In general, it is WORTH of those money and I bought it and it actually works for me...

Hi @JiriKrivanek, not sure what happened to your comment - in general we don't delete comments unless they are obvious spam not related to BeatEdit at all.
If you say the clip markers are wrong, I would be very interested to hear if the beat click audio files are also off or not. Because if it is only the markers, then the issue is most likely that the frame rate of your timeline is not the same as in your project settings. If so, please try to set the frame rate in the project settings to the same frame rate that your timeline has, before you create the markers.
Background:
Resolve has a very annoying limitation in its scripting API - scripts like BeatEdit cannot figure out what frame rate a timeline has. Therefore, if it is not the same frame rate as the one of the project, the markers will be placed at the wrong frames.

BeatEdit is also compatible with the free version of Resolve. :-) If you are using Mac OS, just make sure to install the version available on the website of Blackmagic Design. The version available on the Apple app store does not support third party extensions like BeatEdit.
Tolles Tool! Nicht günstig, aber sehr sehr brauchbar für jeden, der rhythmisch schnellere Schnitte einsetzen möchte, und das kommt fast in jedem Projekt irgendwann mal vor ... was mir allerdings fehlt: Bitte lass(t) uns das Audio in der Davinci-Timeline auswählen und nicht erst umständlich im Finder suchen!!! Meist ist es ja nicht nur ein File in einem Projekt und man weiß es nicht wirklich auf Anhieb, wie der Dateiname komplett lautet und wo es sich befindet, und dann ist es echt ein Hickhack das File erst über Media im Finder anzeigen zu lassen und ins Fenster zu ziehen, vor allem macht man das in einem Projekt ja nicht nur einmal ... Bitte um ein Update, Danke! 🙂
Danke für das Feedback! Die Dateien in der Timeline oder im Projektfenster auszuwählen werden wir definitv unterstützen, sobald das möglich ist. Momentan ist die Scripting-Schnittstelle von Resolve leider noch ziemlich begrenzt. Ein Tool wie BeatEdit bekommt von REsolve schlichtweg nicht die Information, was gerade ausgewählt ist. Daher mußten wir den Umweg gehen, dass der Benutzer eine Datei auswählt und BeatEdit dann die Timeline durchsucht, um den passenden Clip zu finden.
Als wir vor Jahren BeatEdit für Premiere Pro veröffentlicht haben, war das übrigens genauso. Etwa ein Jahr später hatte Premiere Pro dann die benötigten Feature und mit der nächsten Version von BeatEdit konnte man dann auch Dateien in der Timeline auswählen. Ich hoffe, dass das für Resolve ähnlich läuft :-)
Bit disappointed after putting it to use to find a number of caveats. 1. It just throws down a 4/4 grid of what it assumes are downbeats. If you have a section(s) of the song that drops to just big chords or accents that are not on downbeats, you're on your own placing those. And you cannot change the subdivisions to give yourself the between beats. 2. It doesn't always find the downbeat, very first usage it mapped all the upbeats for me. And again, no way to subdivide and request in between markers for the downbeats. ... I have bought and used this product for After Effects, and the features that make it usable are there. Not so much in the Davinci version, the toolbar doesn't even exist. Frustrating to assume I'd get the same level of product I've been using, and find the feature set wildly reduced.
thank you for your feedback! Yes, the versions for After Effects and Premiere Pro have more features - that's why they also cost significantly more. The reason, why we currently don't support the advanced features is that scripts in Resolve cannot have complex user interfaces with waveform previews etc. I am confident that the scripting engine of Resolve will grow over time such that we can add more features on the way.
If you have sections in your song where the tempo changes, uncheck the quantization option to get better results.
If it finds the up- instead of down-beats, as a workaround you can manually move the beat clip audio or the markers by half a beat. I know, not ideal, but still much easier than setting all the beats manually.
