Join us as we tell you why we still play the card drafting and civilisation building board game 7 Wonders designed by Antoine Bauza and published by repos Productions.
There is a reason certain games are around years later and other games are gone in a month. I do suggest checking out It's a Wonderful World which is a combination of 7 Wonders and Splendor in many ways and is a great game at all player counts. We still play a lot of 7 Wonders Duel as well.
7 Wonders is a good game. Every turn every player is doing something. No real downtime when it's "not your turn" because that's not so much of an issue. It's fast, even with many players, and it's quick for new players to learn. Playing 2 games in a row is easy and agreeable enough. And I like the Leaders expansion, fun layer of variables for scoring to add in. Solid choice.
This is one I’ve always heard about and seen at big box stores, but never had the chance to play it. I do have It’s a Wonderful World, which I heard many people compared to 7 Wonders, and now see the comparison. We really love It’s a Wonderful World! Dystopian theme, but essentially very similar. I think the icons and gameplay is a lot cleaner and easier to get into than 7 Wonders, also I enjoy the art an overall graphic design quite a bit. Same major positive as you though, it plays 7 players in the same time as 2 or 3… it’s entirely simultaneous play, which makes for very speedy card drafting and engine building euro game, especially with seasoned players.
There are also couple of fanmade expansions on BGG. I printed it to my wife recently and we're going to play it soon. On top of that Buildings expansion from new edition is compatible because it doesn't mix in cards, so you really do have a shitload of stuff to work with. Did I mention custom wonders?
Being a sad fucker with only one friend, I’ve not been able to play this one. Have you ever played It’s a Wonderful World? Different theme, different game, but with some similarities, and everyone I’ve showed it to has loved it. Defo worth a try!
6:11 I think the rerelease is pretty good, although I can understand it sucks if you got all the old expansions and they arent compatible. The new edition removed some annoying bits of the game. For example in the old game ephesos, halicarnassos and alexandria A side all needed 2 of the same grey resource for the final wonder stage. Nothing in the game requires that except for those wonder stages. So you either need to build a grey card just so you can complete your wonder, or pray someone else builds it for you and you can trade. The free building paths are also upgraded and a lot more feasible. I think its a nice upgrade, but it sucks if you invested into the old game.

"What do we name our pyramids?"
"Well, who built em?"
"I dunno, some geezer..."
We recently started getting this to the table, and our group really enjoys it.
You‘re bleeding hilarious mate!
3:07 ah they dedicated a wonder to you, that's cool.

Nice. I picked up that game in a bundle months ago and still havent played it. I think I will..!
Brilliant, balanced game with great expansions (Armada being my favourite). They’ve done a great job with the whole 7Wonders universe.

Not played it mate 😢
I love It's a Wonderful World. Gun to my head I would pick that one every time, but I still do think 7 Wonders is a great game.
Yea man, I quite liked that one. Themes a bit better better with 7 Wonders but IaWW is good fun.
Lucky you you can play 7 Wonders Duel which is arguably the best 2 player game out there :)

We've pretty much switched to Sushi Go Party from this one
Going to crack this game out tonight. =)
Woot!
@@BoardGameBollocks And my seven year old won again. He loves his war icons.
i didnt know freddy krueger had a channel.... those eyes in the start of the video!
never played it, a new friend has a copy, may have to invite myself over.
The audio sounds a tad choppy...
I recorded it on a boat
OK I guess. Certainly people love it and it’s short thematic and replayable. Too much commercial exploitation of the title as you imply.
