    Love the way you poked fun at Melbourne with your comment about the T light seeing you coming! Gold Coast lights turn favourable, Melbourne lights turn red!! I've seen enough videos to know how it works!! Lol!! Enjoyed the video, none the less!

      I’m in Melbourne now and the waits at traffic lights seem longer than ever. It’s so frustrating!
      I did a full run on the 96 this morning and will add comparison times with a 1990 timetable.

      I would go silly driving up and down the same line forever. My Melbourne Depot did about six different routes, and it did not matter which route I did this week, I was always happy for a different one next week.

    melbourne, this how to run a tram network. just cut the wires to the speakers making pointless announcements (a.k.a. nagging) and patronage will improve. i thought speeds were set lower than necessary. so there is still room for improvement on this network.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Рік тому +1

      Agreed both ways. One announcement is played a lot less often since I complained. I have given up now.
      Unfortunately all tramways are having speed limits set by people who it seems have never worked as a tram driver. Even so it would be hard to shorten the run by more than a couple of minutes.

      @@tressteleg1 ,of course you are correct. a tram should be able to at least move at the same speed as the traffic driving alongside it. and at every traffic light the tram would leave the cars behind and some of the car drivers might think to themselves that they should have used the tram to get to work.

      @@vsvnrg3263 One interesting fact which may surprise you, when trams run adjacent to a road, trams are never given a higher speed limit as authorities have found that road traffic will exceed their speed limit to keep up with the trams.
      Unfortunately motorists seem happy to sit in traffic jams rather than ride public transport not just here but everywhere.

      @@tressteleg1 yes, good points raised. here is a golden opportunity to induce motorists to speed in certain locations so they can set up speed cameras to raise revenue. i, for one, havent had a speeding ticket for years because i refuse to pay more money for road use than i have to. i got caught out a few times. i'm sure a lot of other drivers have also changed their driving habits. i'm sure you are also aware of some of the sneaky methods that get adopted to maintain the revenue flow.

    • @tressteleg1

      Seems like you have a similarity cynical outlook as myself. Paying a speeding fine is no less than a donation to the government. It is some years since I had one.

    It'd be interesting to see how this looks in the middle of Schoolies. Of course only a fool, or schoolie, would the GC then :)

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Рік тому

      I use it twice a week all year and up to lunchtime schoolies only added a bit more traffic. What it is like after dark when all are out of bed for a little while, I don’t know.
      I would not like to be staying in the same hotel as a lot of those school children.

      @@tressteleg1 for some reason I thought you were Melbourne based :) I'm old enough to remember when schoolies wasn't a 'thing' so much, but more holidays catered to students from Break Free Travel. I took part in one of the first schoolies in 1990, when I finished school. It was my first trip outside of NSW, not including the ACT. It wasn't the drunken drug fuelled party it is today, and was more just year 12 students taking a package holiday.

      I worked here on the trams 1987 - 1994. That was long enough here, and have been in Qld ever since but visit here about once each year to keep in touch with tramway matters.
      As for Schoolies, I think reports in the media tend to be a bit overstated. Certainly when you have several thousand kids away from home, many without parents for the first time, some are sure to overdo it. In more recent years places like Surfers Paradise have been much more tightly ‘organised’ for genuine schoolies, and the Qld ones seemed to be in the media the most, probably just from sheer large numbers. The second week with kids from other states was always quieter, I dare say because there were many less of them. Media sensationalism sells newspapers, raises TV news ratings.

    Wait is this a re-upload or did you copy the same captions from the last one?

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Рік тому

      It is the same original vision but ‘time edited out’ captions were not used. Also the station names were freshly added but had to be moved to fit the faster speed. As there is a finite number of lines for me to cover, these high speed versions keep me going. I’m in Melbourne now and have fresh video from here and Adelaide for future use.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Рік тому

      I don’t know when I will upload it. What I have taken over the last couple of weeks has to last me 12 months.
      As an ex tram driver, I saw that there was a very good chance the car would do the wrong thing and was not surprised by it turning across the front of the tram. The driver had similarly anticipated the event and needless to say the maximum braking was used to miss it by millimetres. The roof of the car can be seen extremely close to the front of the tram,
