-1 evasion increases the chance to hit by 33% (multiplicatively) so Hypnosis is bumped from 60% to 79.8% accuracy. Missing 5 in a row like that (assuming all had the syrup, I didn't actually track if they did) is a total 0.0336% chance to happen.
They didn’t miss 5 in a row, they hit it against the Ninetales, and both the Ting Lu and Sinistcha didn’t have an evasion drop (neither did the Ninetales I should add) Meaning the chances of the first three missing are about 2.44% (far from terrible odds), while the second two missing is only 12.12%

A buddy and I tired a multi battle with this, but Darkrai instead of Gothitelle. Landed double Dark Voids 3 games in a row. But for a better partner for Darkrai, Male Meowstic gets Prankster Gravity. Giving Darkrai a Wide Lens and using Gravity turns Dark Void from 50 to around 97 accuracy. And if you're able to switch in Hydrapple it becomes perfectly accurate
I like the mon, but I'm surprised more people aren't pissed at what it does. Its literally 2 layers of crit potential, and people love to whine about crits and rng in a turn based jrpg
Fickle Beam is a (a) Dragon-type move that's currently (b) exclusive to Hydrapple. That's two layers of inherent counterplay baked right in: a hard counter (Fairy types) and a soft check (very telegraphed). Being annoyed at Hydrapple would be considered (rightfully imo) a skill issue.
