- Thinking about purchasing the Zoom H4n pro or the Zoom H6, but you want to know which is better in 2021? Will it serve your needs before you go ahead and buy?

hi Christian! i really love your videos, i found it really helpful. i wanna buy zoom h5 with a shotgun mic and i just saw rode vxlr adaptor, my question is if i buy the vxlr adaptor is it going to make my shotgun mic sounds better? or is it the same as using the 3.5mm cable?
so i'm just starting out in my YT channel and most of my work is dialogue in now a very quite place do you recommend it to me or should i save up and get the h6

But is it possible to record acoustic guitar with my own two extra condenser mics and on board zoom's xy mics in the same time having after session four different separated tracks exported in my daw to mix them? Are zoom's xy condensers and do they need phantom power too? Thank you in advance!
I read that the new H4n Pro Black has a lower noise floor/same preamps as the H6. Have you tried it?

Christian, hello! Nice post, was very important to I understand a better option. Actually I am between ZOOM H4N PRO and ZOOM H5.
My issue is: I want to plug a Fender Rhodes electric piano (it has a electromagnetic a passive pickups and impedance and works exactly like a passive electric guitar) directly on a hand recorder.
I understood that ZOOM H4n Pro probably it´s the better choice for me because it has a "Hi-Z instrument inputs on their 1/4″ sockets. This means you can plug an electric guitar or bass straight into them".
I was wondering if you already had compared ZOOM H4N PRO vs ZOOM H5 on this aspect?
I had see some interesting qualities on H5, but nothing can confirm if has this same Hi-Z instrument input advantage for Guitars and Basses (and probably electric pianos) are availible on H5.
Do you know something about it?

Great video. I'm currently torn between getting an H2N, H4N Pro, H5 and H6 for budget reasons. I'm mainly looking to up the audio quality from my GoPro when I record drums at church, covers, or live elsewhere, so I'm really considering the audio quality between these models more than everything else. I currently have the H4N Pro in my cart on eBay but I'm looking out for bidding opportunities for the H5 and H6
If you haven't bought anything yet, I'd just go for the H4n Pro. The H6, H5 and H4n Pro basically have the same audio quality, it's just that some have more inputs than others.

@@christianskyes the extra inputs might actually come in handy if I wanna include extra mics in future so rather than buying the H4n pro and then have to upgrade I may just get the H6 and be done with it. A few other reviews and videos had also said that the preamps in the higher end models are significantly better. I'm new to this stuff so I'm just trying to get info from more than one source to see what overlaps. Thanks for the response 🙏🏽
@@shadowmaster41 Yeah, the H4n Pro, H5, and H6 basically have the same preamps, and they're much better than something like a Zoom H1n, for example.
Between those three, H4n Pro, H5, and H6, you basically want H4n Pro if you want the cheapest, and don't need the capsules, H5 if you need the capsules, but only 2 inputs XLR inputs, and then H6 or H8 if you need the extra inputs + the capsules :)

Hello, your video so professional and relaxing 🤗😏I have some question.
As a opera singer, I have big differents in dynamic of my voice. I try to have care with high notes, and volume when I recording my self. But the only one method that I know it's tune the recorder to more silents level (6 or even 5).
However I luse the effect of perfectional recording details, sound looks for me like it's coming from far.😒
What do you think about recording piano and voice, maybe better have different recording equipment?
Sounds to me like you could use a compressor between the mic and the recorder. Good microphone technique can lessen the need for this, but that’s how it’s usually done in a professional studio. A compressor will lower the high volume input so you get a cleaner signal with less dynamic range. It can also be used creatively to give certain characteristics to the vocal track.
You said in a previous Zoom H6 video that it is good for everything except recording ambient sounds. What recorder would you suggest similar to the H6 that records ambient nature sounds well and has minimal handheld noise?

@@christianskyes I watched your Sony PCM-D100 video a while back. The D100 does not allow for microphone jacks...correct? I like everything about the Zoom H6.I know the Rycote Grip helps minimizing handheld noise, would that assist in getting better ambient sounds? What about the new Zoom H8, does it do better with ambient sounds? I know it has a field option... do you know if it is good with ambient sounds? Hi there, I use the H1n for ambience sound recording. It's very good.
can I use 2 lavalier mics and record separate tracks at the same time for interviews to enable editing on the tracks individually ?
You will need XLR to 3.5 adapter and done.

I'm assuming that the quality of the h1n is much worse, being the budget version. But do you have any experience with it? If so, how is it with low (ambient) sounds?
Not sure yet, but I've actually ordered all of the H series devices, and I'll be doing new, and more up to date videos with the newest versions of them :)
@@christianskyes I've also been wondering about sound quality difference between those, and even compared to the king Sony PCM-D100. Not much videos out there for this aspect, sadly. I am currently hesitant between any Zoom device or the Sony one about sound quality and I can't make the decision.
@@tonezou3918 If you need to connect other mics to it, just got for any of the Zoom devices (H4n Pro or later). If you know you'll just be recording using the built-in mics, I'd got or the Sony.

As far as I know, the new line of H6 comes only with the XY capsule painted black. The MS capsule is not included anymore, however, the price is still the same.
That does seem to be correct. I assume it's because the MS capsule just wasn't that popular? I rarely found myself using it.
@@christianskyes Whatever the reason may be, and I'm sure it's entirely financial, the MS capsule was a good perk.
@@krasiomilchev160 Indeed. They probably polled buyers, realised that most people didn't use them, and figured they could save some money by not including them.
Oh well, still a great recorded. Actually got my hands on a Zoom H8 recently, so I'll be reviewing that soon too 🤔

Christian Skyes can the zoom h4n h5 h6 record phone call?
When I record from my drums machine to the Zoom H4N Pro, I use the 3.5mm line in and I lower the levels down to 0.7, do you think that this contributes to get less noise than say other recorders which record line levels through their XLR/TRS such as the Tascams?

Just in case your wondering....you want the H6. Its so much better than H4N. Mainly H6 takes 6-8 seconds to power on.
