Love the video and your style! I would only correct one thing - I have done a lot of research and from what I have found, the H8 does in fact sound better than the H5 and even H6. The self noise in EIN for H6 is -120dBu where as on zoom's own spec sheet for the H8 it is listed as -123.5dBu, so almost 4dB quiter in self noise. Curtis Judd also reviewed the H8 and reviewed the H6 a long time ago and his measurement of the silent portion of his recordings showed that for the same test, the H6 scored -60dB and the H8 scored -70dB, so a 10dB of difference in self noise. Also, the H6 came out in 2013 and the H8 came out in 2020, around 7 whole years later. So obviously Zoom would use better and higher tech than the tech they had 7 years prior. Also from what I have found, the preamps on the H8 are in fact more flat and transparent and less colored than the H6. So overall - definitely an improvement over the H6 and actually pretty damn close to the Zoom F series recorders! I currently own the Zoom H6 but am now seriously considering upgrading to the H8 for the improved sound quality but also the beautiful "field recording mode" screen with its huge meters. Anyway, that's all I wanted to add :) have a great day everyone.
I'm not an expert, but my boyfriend is a professional musician who plays at his homemade studio at the back of our house. The sound is horrible and he only records through his pedal board. After recording from the pedal board he records it on his old smartphone which he only uses for this purpose. He often complains about not recording it perfectly and the sounds are not in the perfect "shape" or line. The question is: Could this device be the perfect tool to help bands record in their "house/flat studio"? Thank you for your answer in advance,
Thanks! I was all ready to upgrade from the H6 to the H8 and your vid extra sold me. Used your affiliate link. Hope it worked! I first got the H2 over 15 years ago and it's been amazing! Around a year ago bought the H6 for $300(usd) and now it's under $200!! Highly recommend (unless you need 2 more inputs!) The h8 is currently at $330 (on sale on Amazon) which, if such trend$ continue, will be well under 300 a year from now. Not willing to wait! Zoom = great products!!! Thanks again!
The realtime effects are a great addition for the few amongst us using this as a portable in-ear mixer for live performance monitoring and recording. I’ve used the H6 for this purpose up until now and EQ is something I’ve been hoping for. Adjustable compressor and limiter setting are also most welcome. Otherwise I agree about post production editing. The MS and Shotgun/MS mics are also great for capturing stage and live audience sound.
Okay, so here is my situation: I play in a band, we are a singer, singer/keys, guitarist, bassist and drums (me). I wanted to record the practice sessions to have a recording I can practice to at home. I was loking for the smaller devices at first. Then my stupid inner gearhead stepped in and thought "Oh well, 6 inputs out of the box, that would give everyone an input to play into, with the attachment I could even have a semi decent drum mic setup..." Do I think too far or should I spend the 355€ to buy an H8?
I use this for recording live jams. Its awesome. I have had some issues with it automatically cutting the recording at 2gb which seems pretty mad. Am I missing something?
Another caveat when using the EHX-6 capsule on the H8 is the angle of the XLR inputs into the body of the H8. There is definitely some interference if you are going to try to use the EHX-6 capsule with XLR cables… Not the best design. I have the H8 and was hoping to gain two channels using the EHX-6. Unless someone makes a short 90 degree XLR cable. It won’t work.
Huh. You seem to think "portable" means "handheld". This looks very portable to me (like a laptop); needs not be operated while held in hands to be portable. Get a stand.
The video is rad, thank you. I'm curious why you keep saying "not portable". It's beyond portable. Not handheld I believe is what you're after. If I packed up the pieces of my studio that I needed, to do what this thing does; I'd be packing up a Pc, one of my 8 port mic pres, monitor etc.... This is all super potable, even with the attachments. Thank you again for all the detail and effort. Pro tip... colored electrical tape on both ends of the mic cable. Cheers
Great video, esp the conclusion part; cannot help to "like". I bought an H6 and found that at the end of musical recording, I could only get sound tracks on individual track basis, but not a mixed/combined track and hence could not get the key "end product" that I also want. Would H8 produces a stero-mix track, or it is just my ignorance of H6, which can also produce one. Thank you.
Hello, great video, thanks. This recorder accepts SDXC cards to 512GB, but does it accept SDHC too, or any other sd cards? Thanks for your answer. Regards.
Hi, thanks for the great video. I have a question before buying the MSH-6 and SSH-6 capsules for my H8. On the H5 and H6 it is possible to set the Side mic level using the side buttons directly on the devices. Is it also possible with the H8, or the only way is using the Zoom software M/S in post-production? Thank you!
@@mouradkachroud500 thank you!! And... how it does?? In the H6 i saw the people who s filming increase and decrease with the side up and down operation buttons..the H8 doesnt has those
Yes which was a shame as I had bought the H6 to record in 5.1 surround sound. But why bother with all the stuff in the way for the EX H6. But with the H8 you could do 9.1 surround all from the machine.
Hello, I'm writing from Turkey. I bought a Zoom H8, but do I need to use only the SD card to transfer the audio from it to a computer? Can't I directly transfer the audio from the device to a computer with a cable?
I just got this product. My only question that is baffling me is there are a bunch of toggle switches but there is no indication which way is on and which is off. They’re just left to right switches. Do you know which way is which?
