reapers eat alien meat, thats a whole new level of badassery
Not really. But im sure to losers like you who has never done anything fun in your life, yeah thats "bAdAsSeRy"
I think it would be best to first introduce all WOTC factions, so Skirmishers and Templars next
@Jon Doe ILL DO IT!
wait no nevermind
"Some view them as extremists, but these are extreme times" fuckin great line
Always nice to see more Xcom lore in what I hope is the year of Xcom 3. (As unlikely as that may be.)
Unlikely but hopeful.
there’s always hope for 2023 :( 5 years and nothing about xcom 3
I think Midnight Suns was Firaxis's big focus for the time, and we have to remember how significant XCOM is in the turn bases tactics genre, they would have to do something big and ground breaking for 3, when you consider how much 2 improved from EU. Keeping that level of quality is difficult and time consuming.
@@MiskatonicMemorialist i agree, firaxis definitely won’t abandon xcom after such success with xcom1 and 2. hopefully there will be some news about xcom 3 in 2023 or 2024
The Templars would be nice as compared to the other 2 races we see relatively few mentions. The other 2 are imidiately introduced in wotc with characters while the Templars are just ... there. I would love it as they're my favourite faction.
Love your Darkest Dungeon stuff man. Super hyped to see you cover more XCOM!
"a Russian American born in Alaska while fighting a war in America"
Mr worldwide
i don't watch the comic or book about xcom but there is still little in the way of lore in the game as well, but you took the time to search for it and you manage to make a video that somewhat fleshed out the reaper way better then the game could, at least in my opinion and i love it, your xcom serie is really good and the way you narrate them really gives justice to the world of xcom i hope your gonna continue your xcom serie. My vote is for the skirmishers to be next can't wait for your next video.
Yes please continue this I want a very long time line to explain xcoms story from enemy within and xcom 2
Templars please, something about psionic ninjas/knights that I just find appealing 😁 . Another great video, top level narration.
I dunno that comparison with ancient Sparta works.
There, the young people were send out to survive and at least kill one person always killed a slave and often stole from them to survive. Slaves were often malnourished and obviously not trained in combat.
The Reapers seem like their final task would be to survive a year in alien territory while only eating xenon or sth.
That's just something Volk says. Going off the myth and legend of the Spartans than historical accounts. But that's a whole other can of worms.
@@MiskatonicMemorialist ah, didn't remember him saying that. Sorry, my alarm bells just kinda go off when I am sensing historical revionism, glad you weren't doing that here.
All good. I left out the on screen quotes this time as a experiment. Next time I'll cite the sources.
I would love to see some lore for the Templars, in game they are just there, they dont have a presentation like the other two and is amazing that you found this Lore to begin with
Ill always love more xcom
I gotta say i love your storytelling. reminds me of that one lore guy from the fallout series. einfach epic
Good job with your videos 🎉
I would like to see video about Templars, because I find them most interesting.
Thanks for the video.
You've got a sub buddy continue a good work. Maybe alien bestiary next?
One thing I never personally liked about XCOM is how much *you* get to lean into the sci-fi stuff in the late game. You can get access to magnetic and plasma weapons really early on in both games and to me it always seemed like a detriment to the general feel that made the game appealing to me. I think this is why I like the Reapers. No fancy flying fortress, no top-of-the-line facilities, no special Skyranger. It's just you and your gun against overwhelming odds, and the only advantage you have is in your ability to stay unseen. At least when they're introduced. Frankly I could do with a whole game centered on how the resistance managed to fight back in the 20 years of the occupation where you don't get to upgrade your gear, instead just maintaining what you have is a struggle enough.
I get what you mean but the I think the entire theme of xcom is how much are you willing to do to survive like causing forced evolution/tech development just to keep up which is where the skirmishes and templates come in as contrast to the reapers
@@dudejoe24 I do also quite like the Skirmisher and Templar designs. I think it's mainly an aesthetics issue with me more than anything else. I just don't like how the powered armor looks, but that's what cosmetic mods are for. I do wish there was a little less power creep on both sides, but that's personal preference. I have noticed I really enjoy Operation Gatecrasher because of how few tools are available to you. It puts emphasis on positioning and the map to your advantage.
For me the collest faction, then the skirmishers and last the templars.
The hunter with the theory of being a reaper captured and converted into a chosen is coll as hell
Pd: sorry for my lack of ortograpy i dont speak english
Just to remind you, there are no crystallins in the invasion army. Only chryssalids.
Skirmishers would be a sound stone to step onto next
3:18 That line cracked me up!
Skirmishers, then tye templars
Yeah, that's not a lot of info to cover.
I was hoping for some speculations on Reaper's origins.
Like Volk sure, but who were the first reapers -- his comrades? Some kind of elite infiltration group that repurposed their knowledge against aliens?
Also "its up to the rest of the world to continue", but what actually are they planning to do after the alien invasion is over except a glorious walk into the sunrise?
Especially now that we have Chimera squad probably canon we know that humans came to piece with remaining aliens, will Volk be okay with that or will he continue his terror as another group of extremists that cannot stand peace with aliens?
Sorry if that comment sounded negative, I don't blame lack of info on you -- there isn't really much "canon material" in the factions stories, xcom really embraced "show, not tell" policy there.
Lost might be an interesting talk though, especially with how their introduction was tied with xcom EU cinematics.
And again, they are still there after the invasion ended.
With how even aliens didn't know how to deal with them and preferred developing a special peacekeepers to keep them contained you would imagine Lost will be a pain to deal with if humanity is ever to reclaim the lost cities.
All good mate. The formation of the Reapers isn't really talked about except for in the books and comics which depending on who you ask are only somewhat "canon"
The quote about whatever happens afterwards is a direct quote from Volk. Wether he'll stay true to that is up for interpretation. Personally I think he will since the Commander and XCOM are back in charge.
Chimera Squad is also a tricky issue since the community is split on it and the lore value since it's a spin-off. I think there's some interesting stuff but I'm sticking to what's in the main games... For now.
Not really a negative comment either, all good mate
I cannot imagine all of them stopping their hunt for xenos. Have you heard their rhethoric? Volk might stay true to this word but all of the Reapers?
Out of three WoTC cult-like factions Reapers are the most single-leader cult. Even from the in-game responses its clear that regular reapers trust Volk entirely and stick to Xcom only due to direct orders from him.
Granted, changing the lifestyle is even harder than the "while aliens live the hunt will continue" paradigm.
I wouldn't be surprised if next time we see them they either live in Lost cities and hunt renegade aliens or Volk is dead and the Reapers turn to full-blown terrorism.
Volk is referenced as one of the founding members of the Reapers in the books and the Commander's Quarters archives, as he brought together "like minded individuals" who were strongly opposed to the decision to end fighting against the invasion. The books mention another founding Reaper who led before Volk took charge, who was killed by the Chosen Hunter, and show at least one of the Reapers opposing Volk's decisions to work with Bradford/XCOM early on. Volk claims to not have any personal plans for the Reapers after ADVENT is defeated, which does make sense because his motivation for helping found the Reapers was to oppose the conception of ADVENT. However, there are no guarantees of what the rest of Reapers will do in Volk's absence.
Getting some old Shoddycast vibes and I mean that in the best way
Are you still continuing this series? I would love to ser more
Yeeee. I'm just a sloth 🦥
@@MiskatonicMemorialist Aren't we all 🦥
First skirmishes than the templars
I think they have hard time to adapt to new life with viper night club etc.
Only thing i don't like is that room with aliens heads now appear in xcom headquarters, which is stupid.
And little with the weapon, previously xcom has most modern Earth technology, at late game surpassed even alien one.
Now: "how about put enemy skin on yourself to scare enemy?"
greetings!
Preiss algorithm gods!
i would love to se templars.
Skirmishers and then the hunter Because the hunter comes from the skirmishers
