Sadly enough, Raymond Briggs (88), the original author and illustrator of the Snowman has passed away today! His legacy will continue through his marvelous books! Rest in peace, sweet Mr. Briggs! You have touched souls and brought joy to millions of people around the globe.

      Remembering Raymond today 🎇🕊️
      💟⛄🏚️🐩❄️
Thank you - it's difficult to articulate feeling lucky to be moved by the magic of something like The Snowman. There's nostalgia but you manage to capture that feeling of something universally touching in an eternal way, which can captivate a new audience afresh, like the best stories. "Walking in the Air" from the original, as they fly above the rooftops, is part of what made that story unforgettable for me, as well. And the denouement, if we can use such a fancy word for a children's tale, is a big part of it. It wasn't saccharine. It described a moment of magic which came to an end. It remains like the best fairytales - full of a sense of wonder, but also a bit haunting - the ephemerality of magical imagination, the loss of unique and unlikely companionship, the need to remain in the experience of the moment because not everything lasts forever. As a story for children, although not a word is spoken throughout, this makes for a powerful memory! Noticeably this one ends without the loss of companionship, perhaps thus averting existential crises in the prepubescent, haha. But if you look at old fairytales, they are often quite gnarly, even when Bowdlerised, and the most captivating and long-lived fables, like the Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid or Oscar Wilde's Prince can be expressive of the pain and grief of loss as well as enchanting beauty and connection between souls. Cheers and wishing all viewers peace and joy, and an uplifting moment of relief as this year reaches its end. 🐩💟 May Raymond rest in peace. 🎇

You cried because a dog died, I hope you're not an adult. If there was a storyline and it showed a GREAT CONNECTION between the dog and the family and especially them GROWING UP TOGETHER, then you might shed a tear when he died. There was nothing to this story and certainly not any bond between the boy and the dog that would warrant even a tear. A boy with a ordinary dog, dog dies, boy gets a new dog. The end

I liked this one, but the music in the original is what made it so amazing, filled with childhood magic but with a tinge of sadness, this didn’t really have that, a little at the end but not like the first one. @@trinade3732 I just became one but I don’t see why that matters. I hope you’re a person that can learn to mind their business. If I hold a dog in a high place in my heart so be it. If you don’t that’s your own choice, but I’m allowed to have emotions. It’s not my fault you have a narrow view about them

You can have your Emotions, I never said you couldn't. I must have hit one of your little sensitive nerves that hasn't grown up yet.
I was just wondering if you were a child in which crying at a cartoon is acceptable and therefore would have extend my condolences. It's not like they showed a bonding between them where they grew up together and then you got emotional for the boy.
It is just so concerning that we don't have enough WELL ADJUSTED ADULTS that can raise well adjusted children.
I'm not narrow minded sweetie. Love animals.
We had many animals, Including dogs while my girls were growing up. We cried WHEN they died. However if we saw a MOVIE were an animal died it was sad, sure. However we talked about our FOND MEMORIES and how HAPPY we were BECAUSE they had been IN OUR LIVES. Soon after we got another one.
A very POSITIVE, HEALTHY and HEALING PROCESS IN LIFE. Quite the OPPOSITE of the NEGATIVE EFFECTS of CRYING ever time you watched a cartoon about a dog that has died.
Just saying, put on your big girl panties and deal. Life's challenges get much harder.

@@trinade3732 not really. I just find it intriguing u define age by a persons emotions. Caring for things is not childish. Keep your opinions to yourself.

What did you mean "not really".
Complete sentences need a subject, so explain "not really".
You must not be reading for comprehension because I DID NOT SAY that CARING for something is CHILDISH. Remember we were talking about EMOTIONS not caring. Don't put words in my mouth.
OK, so first you tell me that YOU CAN have your opinions and emotions and then you ACCUSE ME of saying you can't. However you tell me I CAN'T and to keep my opinions to myself.
You sound very ANGRY. Did you forget to take your medicine today?
In case you aren't aware this is an open forum. Do you know what that means? Are you just attempting to intimidate me, bully me?
What does that say about your character?
AGE has nothing to do with MATURITY. So are you curious, fascinated or perhaps just CONFUSED with Appropriate Emotions as they relate to age and maturity.
Chronological AGE is, think birthdays and
MATURITY is your MENTAL DEVELOPMENT or wisdom that helps deal with your CONDUCT and relationships. You want to STRIVE for them to DEVELOP as CLOSE as possible or hopefully a little bit MORE MATURE then YOUR AGE when it comes to your EMOTIONS.
You Obviously skipped right over the part where my daughters learned to deal EMOTIONALLY
as they AGED and MATURED in regards to dealing with the death of animals.
      To bottom line:
Cared but Align your EMOTIONS to reflect your age and MATURITY.

'The Snowman' and 'The Snowman and The Snowdog' are both so beautiful. I'd never seen The 'Snowman and The Snowdog' until today. The only problem is that I end up weeping over the heart breaking endings. I wish the original music had been used. Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas!

We were absolutely thrilled that they made a sequel to 'The Snowman'. It's included among our DVD/BLU-RAY collection, and our household of adults watch it every winter season. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of artwork which expresses so much, to so many ! ~ Blessings !

Cutest cartoon I've ever seen, because it's a cartoony version of The Nutcracker when dialogue is 🔇ed as we speak in the comment boards. Billy lives with his parents even though it's not easy for him to go on adventures with a ☃ and a 🌨 🐕 when he has an active imagination in comparison to Clara Stahlbaum. 👍🏻 if you enjoyed this wintery cartoon when you were a kid.
