This one goes out to Charlie! Thanks for the music and being such a big influence on so many of us drummers. 🙏 CORRECTION: Charlie Watts was not the drummer on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” it was their producer Jimmy Miller. Although that be the case, Charlie still played the same groove when they would perform the song live. So sorry for not knowing that sooner, there is only a small number of songs Mr. Watts didn’t play on and that is one of them.
Great tribute! RIP Charlie. If you don't mind me asking, is that a crash/ride you are playing and if so, what kind? I'm trying to get some ideas for a minimal cymbal setup like this and I haven't had much experience with crash/ride cymbals. Trying to figure out what I can use for a crashable ride that's not too washy and not too expensive. Love your videos, you da man.
@@hoedownsam thank you! It’s a 20’ “Zildjian Orchestral Ride” and one of my better cymbals. It’s actually not meant for drum set but for pit percussion and I bought it used for a decent price in a music shop because I was particularly drawn to how good the bell sounded.
Who is this wizard? I'm an old guy, Stones dude....but I love this young, new generation to carry on our tradition......thank-you Mr. Cobb, your a true star light
finally something done about charlie by an actual drummer. I was really disappointed trying to find stuff written about his drumming and none of it was written by musicians
The point you made about his fills becoming part of the song motif is SO ON POINT. Great observation. Charlie was an efficient percussionist who created just what was needed with very little equipment or fanfare.
Thank you, Cobb, for this great little video from one of the TV studios! And please, don‘t speak always that loud, the birds outside of my windows are already sleeping...
Hey, Cobb. Excellent take on Charlie Watts here. I've watched quite a few tributes to Charlie in the last few days, including several who went into his contribution and playing style but yours is by far the best.
An excellent way to honor Charlie Watts. When i heard the signature riff on "Get off of my cloud", i remembered what kid-getting-older dreams in high school when i first heard that song. a different and yet the same time view of a musical memory brought into the present. Thanks for the workmanlike tribute to a workmanlike drummer.
So sad Charlie Watts is gone. In my opinion he was a great drummer, because he had a unique style of drumming. I‘m a drummer myself and I think it‘s really hard to create a unique drumming style/sound. By the way cool video. 👍
He kept it simple, it's what the music required, a great 4/4 Basic time keeper and no one could have slotted into that quartet better than Charlie Watts.
Interesting fact, Charlie didn't know that he lifted his hand off his high hat until he watched a video of himself playing. It gets more noticeable the older he got in my opinion. Still he always sounded great and he is still (in my opinion) the best drummer ever.
You'd think more drummers would skip the high hat to bring out the snare like that. I guess drumming is just not as influential as guitar. Charlie is so good. I prefer his relaxed style to the hard hitters most of the time. It sounds awesome.
And how about his drumming on the studio version (as well as the live 1969 version) of ‘Midnight Rambler’...? The stage version of ‘Midnight Rambler’ became a theatrical frantic exercise in sprinting and then galloping as the years wore on.., but in ‘69... wow Charlie, what a groove. Tempo, tempo, tempo, little up down stick with me Boys. Restrained, keeping ‘the Boys’ focused on the music..., as opposed to racing to the finish line. Charlie 🙏✌️😔
Nice work man, good job, nice little tribute to Charlie. His legend/body of work is immense, quite possibly unequaled. His style- simply put; tight and loud, always up front but never in the way. Yeah that was Jimmy Miller on ‘YCAGWYW’ but you’re forgiven, he played it right on Charlie’s ‘groove’ FYI..., ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll (but I like it)’..., drums were laid down by master Kenny Jones (Small Faces, Faces, The Who). Was supposed to be jam session/demo/guide track drums...., when The Stones got around to recording a proper polished version of ‘IORnR..’ in the studio..., the drums laid down by Kenny were so good.., they just left em in the track! Lol, Kenny later apologized to Charlie explaining he never meant to do that, be on the record..., was just a demo, had no idea..., Charlie said (paraphrasing) ‘Don’t worry man, it sounds exactly like me anyway’ lol. Two absolute gentlemen, 2 ‘British Invasion’ drumming legends. God Bless we’ve still got Kenny. God Bless Charlie, now gone.
Buen punto Cobb.

finally something done about charlie by an actual drummer. I was really disappointed trying to find stuff written about his drumming and none of it was written by musicians
Read "Sympathy For The Drummer, Why Charlie Watts Matters" by Mike Edison. The author is a drummer. Great tribute video! R.I.P. Charlie
Great video Cobb, thoroughly enjoyed your drumming style and overall vibe. Ill be back to watch more!
Groovy
Well done on this very well put together and thought out video.
Might be a really strange comparison but the intro you did sounded like shoenice22 lol. Rock on this is an awesome video
I love the outfit choice! Your drumming knowledge is astounding ma boi!
Nice video.
Have you done any drum-video features on Jaki Liebezeit, John French, Bobby Z, Klaus Dinger or Stephen Morris?
:-)
U better send in your application
Talking about Charlie while speaking softly enough not to wake anyone up.
Great explanations.
Drum painting 🖼🏁
Great tribute ~ Love your channel.
Please do more of these exposés on drummer's techniques. Something like Rick Beato does, but for drums instead of guitar
The point you made about his fills becoming part of the song motif is SO ON POINT. Great observation. Charlie was an efficient percussionist who created just what was needed with very little equipment or fanfare.
Rest in peace, thanks for these videos dude, seriously! These are super helpful even for someone who programs their beats.
Thank you, Cobb, for this great little video from one of the TV studios! And please, don‘t speak always that loud, the birds outside of my windows are already sleeping...
I also love his work on Emotional Rescue, Paint it black, Miss you and Undercover of the night
A fitting tribute and insight to a legend and role model. Thank you Cobb. RIP Mr. Watts.
Thanks so much for the tribute.
A worthy homage to a great man. Thank you.

Wow, you really nailed the feel!

Thank you! It’s a Sonor Safari, 16x16 inch bass drum. Gotta love those cocktail kits. That’s awesome you met Charlie, I’m jealous. Cheers!
Beautiful tribute, love. Thanks for the music, Charlie!!!
Great tribute Cobb! I always felt Charlie had such a “cool” style that really gave the Stones their sound. Love it my friend!
I Love That Song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want…” It’s Awesome That You Honored Charlie Watts…
Love it man :-)
Cool Tribute!
your voice is so soft holy shit

Phil Rudd and Charlie Watts, the GOATS. Rest in peace Charlie ❤
You should fill in for Charlie on the Stones next tour. They'd be in good hands.
...and keep the hat!
4 20 my homie
god damn I love you. You are really good at making videos about drumming. I watch all of them.
Interesting fact, Charlie didn't know that he lifted his hand off his high hat until he watched a video of himself playing. It gets more noticeable the older he got in my opinion. Still he always sounded great and he is still (in my opinion) the best drummer ever.
the Gimmie Shelter motifs are my favourite recorded beats.
Rest in Peace Mr Watts. You were truly one of a kind.

BEAUTIFUL SOUND CONGRATULATIONS!!!🙋🏽♂️🎶🎶🥁🤘🤘👏
Sounds great, definitely can see the samba influence in the first beat
Yes... In your dreams...

Live version. Killer drums!

What's with the scarecrow hat
Rip Charlie Watts!
How did you record this? I think that room just sounds really good. Everything is mid rangey and upfront. It’s a good sound.
Did you make this video at 4:00 am? It feels like you’re trying hard not to wake your neighbors.
For me, Charlie's best drumming was on Rock and a Hard Place. He really made that song swing!
ASMR?
rip charlie

Guess I need Google translate.
great video, but what's with the hat?
GRACIAS CHARLIE WATTS POR TU MÚSICA , NOS CAMBIASTE LA VIDA .... .Q.E.P.D.
You look like young jimmy page mate haha
The hat?
are u a safety wizard?
That was a magnificent tribute! But why you talk so 🤫 quiet….? Lol
I think Charlie made the music more listenable. I can listen to the Stones all day long. Not the case with Led Zeppelin or Metallica.
Why are you whispering? 😊
Rest in Peace, Charlie. I think he had a wonderful life many of people wouldn't able to live
Loba ngomong
nice hat
Great hat.
why are you whispering ? 🤫
The righteous odometer secondly fix because asphalt acromegaly guide within a pumped sentence. wise, puzzling ear
