Comic book publishers can vary wildly as to the kind of content they put out, to the formats they adopt, to their relationship to their creative force and readership, and most of all to their longevity. Some have been around for almost a century now, some have come and gone with just a handful of characters to mark their passing. Still, they all have something to contribute to the medium. These are the 25 best comic book publishers ranked.

Well, American yes. Though not exclusive to superheros. I’ve considered making that clear, but decided against it. I’m also not sure if there are European publishers that rival these. Most of them have even shorter life spans than their American counterparts. But yes, the video is very much American-centric. No two ways about it.

@comicbelief I didn't mean it as an attack. So I apologise if I came across that way. I don't know if they could rival (your) American top publishers for the simple reason that they are incomparable. But some famous European publishers like Dupuis. Casterman and Dargaud have been around just as long or even longer than let's say DC and Marvel. The incomparable element is the way distribution, languages and publishers are shattered across the continent.

@@gedovanderzee1224 Oh, don’t worry. No apologies necessary. It’s funny that I just pointed out the age of some French-Belgian publishers in another comment. Dupuis is 100 years old. My mind was in those 1980s UK publishers which never seemed to last long. It certainly should have ranked quite high if I had thought to include it. And now I’m very bothered to not have done so.

Is Top Cow cómics and independent publisher or is it under the Image Comics banner?

For our purposes here, it’s one of the studios that form Image Conics. As is McFarlane Productions, Highbrow, etc

Did you considered only USA publishers? Would this list have changed if considered European or Japanese publishers?

I did, it’s an American list. As for the impact of other countries, I’m not sure. There are a number of French and Belgian publishers that are even older than DC, but they are limited in their output. They might have outranked the lower portion of the list, yes. Japan is an entirely different story. The country have multiple publishers, some of which could rival even the bigger American publishers. I, unfortunately, am not as well-versed in manga as I hope to become eventually. I should have made it clear that it’s an American ranking, though.
