I’ve had my Xpower for 3 weeks and it’s done 1,500 miles. Absolutely love it! Must be the greatest ever performance bargain. Yesterday I saw that the new Mercedes- AMG GT has gone on sale for £165k and does 0 - 62 in 3.9 seconds. I’ve saved myself 0.1 seconds and £128k. Result! 😀
Another excellent review, thanks. I am a sucker for BBK (big brake kits), I think that you are the first journalist that noticed that the callipers have been souped up... good catch. Still, 345mm rotors are not half bad, even slightly bigger than the 340mm rotors on my 2013 GTI Performance Pack.. The EV world has gone Totally (no pun intended) bonkers.. I am sure that you remember that not so long ago, in 2014 to be precise, the Golf 7 R came out with - at that time amazing - 300HP and sub-5s zero to 62mph times. Reviewers couldn't get enough of it. Fast forward to 2023, and a MG4 EX XPower runs rings around the Golf 7 R, at least in the straight line, maybe less through the corners.. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for the kind words, and yes it's crazy how far things have come in the EV space. Let's see if it will drive down price of its competitors (incl petrol alternatives)!
Stimmt! folk are getting blasé to EV performance...for decades, engine tuners and customers fought long and hard to get that extra, say 10ps - Now it would seem, 'would sir like half a thousand PS or the full thousand?' ;) is à la mode ;)
The LKA (Lane Keep Assist) option in the menu only appears when the car is in "Ready" mode. Don't ask me why but that's how my Xpower is, and consistently so ! Were you in Ready Mode ? (i.e. pressed brake pedal and just about to drive ?
In all modes, it wasn't present. Was informed by MG following the review that it was not meant to be permanent disabled in the two XPower models I was in, and that customer cars will have the feature there!
Thanks for this insightful review about the MG Chris, and for illustrating how &Charge can help each EV driver having more peace of mind when it comes to public charging
Subscribed :) Good to have a detailed review without the presenter concentrating on their 'style' rather than detail - dont go the Jayem route of trying to replicate Mr Clarkson! Did I miss the warranty - being EV, it is vital to know the nitty gritty on said item - Somewhere I heard it was 'lifetime for all major components...followed by first owner..' - such things matter! Had a Zoe 3 yrs but was put off having one as an older car due to some horror stories such as £7k to fix a heater. - Would love to think I could save up for an X Power when it drops below £20k on used market and know that I would never face a large repair bill The Cyberster is something else!!! - Not enough excitement is being shown over this sensational achievement - regrettably likely to remain out of a pensioners budget for quite a few yrs - larger than I would have liked (Zoe & Griff) - but if it looks as good in reality as it does on Tube, rides ok and has decent range in addition to all obvious attributes........ Did u say X has keyless entry followed by jump on brake twice and gear select, no start button? Found the Zoe start button unnecessarily tedious, especially as it got easily confused between accessory and start, needing multiple jabs - prod brakes and select gear preferred. Back on to the Cyberster, the Scissor doors could well be helpful for us oldies that dont bend that well anymore - No roof rail to scrape under :) Cant wait to try these two cars
7 yr warranty I believe - I guess I am going to have to wait 4 yrs in hope it gets to less than half price and use a couple of yrs of warranty...then repeat :)
@renz2.060 I've just looked at my notes, and I've got this - don't know why it was omitted from the video review, sorry! "There's also small vibrations that can be felt on the steering wheel when driving at around 70mph - maybe wheel balancing?" So, guess I did!
Not sure, but was the first I've come across the feature fully missing (you'll see it on certain shots where LKA is disabled and in yellow on the cluster)
Great review. In another review I saw, the auto steer/lane keep assist was basically dangerous as it started to creep out of the lane and it was then shown trying to steer into a verge and then a in another clip it tried to go completely on the wrong side of the road. The Australian reviewer said you have to turn that feature off every time you get in the car. It didn't look too bad in the clips shown here tho'. If it wasn't for this and the badly placed phone holder, this car would be 100%. I just wish manufacturers would stop burying climate controls in the screen. It's not big and it's not clever. Good to see that there are grab handles all round now tho'.
Just had a quote from admiral and its £410 - pleasant surprise. I'm a no claims ever driver of 58 years but that is with the missus as named driver as well.
Too expensive ?! - It's easily the cheapest way to get this level of performance !! -> Normally, when an item is the cheapest available in the sector, it's not labelled as 'too expensive' 😛 Also, EV's are less likely to catch fire than ICE cars. The problem for EV's, is currently any car which catches fire is being reported as an EV, even if it's not an EV 🙄 I saw two diesel Land Rovers/Range Rovers being reported on social media last week as EV's, when they weren't. The Luton airport fire was one of them - that's a pure diesel car, as confirmed when you look up the registration number details.

IMHO Mercedes is a bit too showboating with the price to match. To each his own. But not for me unless I have money to burn 😅

For info… these are now under 30k if you shop around!
Happy days!
Love the matt green colour !
Likewise!
hated matt to date, but this does look classy, if all the tacky rally gloss black bits could be toned down
Hi, great review.! In terms of spec, is the mg4 x power better than the coupra born overall? Thanks.
Thanks! In terms of interior quality, the Cupra is better, however, raw performance of the XPower is far superior
nice car, thanks for review
No problem 👍

Did you notice any hum/vibration at around 70mph?
@@TotallyEV It's something many owners have reported.

It wasn't just your test vehicle. All the XPowers have this issue it seems.
Interesting! Thanks for pointing it out.

You would have though manufs would have got the message by now, NO driver wants to use a touchscreen once the car is in motion - Simples!!
remember this is NOT a TRUCK or and Camper. That you need an SUV boxes.. there 500kg trailer for garden wast is plenty
Of course it isn't, but equally it's worth pointing out what its competitors offer for those who are interested in knowing its towing capacity!
And I wonder what the insurance cost will be?
£707 for me.
Very reasonable!
£500 for me 😍
£700 for mine.

tyres tyres TYRES need replacing , the cars perfect with decent tyres
Of course that's always for the owner to do, especially over time!
