I'd definitely recommend that you play Part 2. Personally, I ultimately found that I actually preferred it over Part 1 (although I wholeheartedly love both games). There's a lot of thematic context and development that only crystallises later in the game. There's also a lot more "heart" and empathy shown to all characters in later moments. A *lot* of people passionately love Part 2 (and it was the most awarded video game in the industry's history upon release, including player's choice awards). But yes, it is also true that a lot of people feel differently. I won't pretend like there aren't many vocal detractors online.
Most people actually love the second game. A lot of people consider it better than the first. The "controversy" comes from a very vocal minorty whose complaints are not based on the quality of the game.
The producers are splitting the 2nd game into 2 possible 3 seasons as the story is bigger and more complex than the first game. Jeffrey Wright is reprising his character from the second game, just like Merle Dandrige (Marlene) did in Season 1.😊
You have to finish the game to really understand it. Just knowing the plot points is hardly sufficient. I always liked it but it wasn’t until I played it a second time that it hit me just what a masterpiece it was. The show will change some things here and there but there is no chance any of the major plot elements change. Not with Neil as a showrunner.
Fun fact: there are only 2 actors who reprised their roles from the games, Merle Dandridge who played Marlene and Jeffrey Wright who played Isaac Dixon in the games

game was ahead of it's time
Part one will always have a special place in my heart but part 2 comes close, I loved it!!!!! ❤
TLOU Part 2 is a masterpiece. Those that think otherwise are just not mature enough to handle it.
