If you know you know but after 10 years of not playing the game and coming back, the first thing that comes to your mind wont be to collect all of the chase variants but rather the og soundtracks and memories from your childhood. The maps, the levels, the villians you were afraid of and didnt want to fight them, and from each skylander you had. Thats the pleasure which hits the most. Everything comes back in such a short time and you just gotta sit down and say, i had a great childhood.😢
I showed my, then 3 year old cousin skylanders last year. And guided him as he put his first skylander on the portal. Pure amazement. I recorded it and it's an incredible moment
Both. They’re hand in hand. I don’t recommend nfcs or emulating, and I don’t recommend buying the figures and not using them. That’s kind of the point of the game is to join the toy world and game world. The best enjoyment you can get from skylanders is to pick up a new skylander and place it on your portal and add it to your in game collection and upgrade it. Just like a kid coming back from toys r us in 2013.
Gosh I’ll never forget the day I picked up QuickDraw Rattleshake at Toys R Us, he was my first non-starter pack figure and looking at that whole wall and choosing him, then going home and playing as him for hours was a top tier childhood moment
I was never about "collect them all!" and I think Toys For Bob/Activision wanted that for everyone. You were never required to unlock everything, nor did the game bar content compared to the other TTL's. You could even beat any game with ONE Skylander IF you're good enough. Anyway, I'd always keep my landers in-box just for easier returns and would always wait for a sale, and now I'm left with a select few that I'm proud to have
I have now every single figure. Of course not Chases and missing Chompy Mage Green and two Yawns. It's very satisfying to see but also to play as them. It's the reason I collect Skylanders and not any other figures, since they're just so unique and actually are not JUST figures 🙃
I’d say the collection for me( since i have all 167 orignal skylanders and some others), the more skylanders you collect the more you can use in the game.
I see myself as somewhere in the middle. I like to collect Skylanders, but I also like to play as them and figure out the best ways to play as them and other cool strategies. I'm currently revisiting some of my Skylanders that aren't Level 20 and having a blast doing so! And I still want more!
Inflation is not really a factor. There are plenty of figures out there today that cost next to nothing and they were way more valuable back when they were released. What really matters is supply and demand. In Denmark you cant really even sell the plain figures without lotting them with more valuable figures. At least thats my experience.
The one problem with playing and collecting at the same time is the scalpers that go to retro game stores and buy up all the skylanders they have and sell them for 3 times the price
Personally, I don't think you can really seperate the two. The Skylanders experience is getting a physical toy, then placing it on the portal to bring it to life in the game. They go hand-in-hand. That's why I will never use NFC cards, as it takes away the entire point.
I highkey just want the figures i can play. No reposes, no chases. I just want to have like all of the characters available, but idrk abt getting nfc cards because I do like having the figured
I think collecting them is fun but I’m not going out of my way to get variants (specifically chases) since they don’t show up in the game. If purple fire bone clear hot dog and snowbrite stormblade were in game variants as well as figure variants I’d definitely consider spending more money on them! I just can’t justify spending $200+ for a variant that doesn’t even show up in the game. Collecting is definitely fun but I do mainly enjoy playing the game :)
when i was a child and the games released i definitely enjoyed more playing the games i didn’t care if anything is rare i just bought the ones i thought looked the coolest but now i definitely enjoy more collecting the figures i bought some pretty expensive figures in the last months and haven’t even used them because i don’t have enough time and trap team on wii is unplayable for me because of the graphics but i also can’t spend 100€ for trap team for ps4 and one thing that annoys me when i play like trap team or imaginators i can’t use my favorite figures spotlight and blackout or any other normal figure because i need always a trap master or sensei and i also dont want to change the figure every 2 seconds because there is traptanium i need to breack or there is something else i need a trap master or sensei for
I love the collecting part of skylanders. Having the physical figurine just adds to the gameplay so much imo. I recently got some nfc tags for wildstorm and robow but it just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't really feel like I own them. Kind of feels like cheating in a way
The only skylander I collect is the GOAT Tree Rex I buy every Tree Rex figure I see
Can you blame him though? Tree Rex is a cool skylander
Proof

It really depends how much figures you have in my opinion because if you don’t have a lot of figures your gameplay is more limited
I have now every single figure. Of course not Chases and missing Chompy Mage Green and two Yawns.
It's very satisfying to see but also to play as them.
It's the reason I collect Skylanders and not any other figures, since they're just so unique and actually are not JUST figures 🙃
Guess whos getting 40 skylanders for their birthday on the 21st 😊
It is more common to play than to collect Skylanders I think but collecting Skylanders is still normal.
I’d say the collection for me( since i have all 167 orignal skylanders and some others), the more skylanders you collect the more you can use in the game.

Well you have to collect the Skylanders before you can play it

They are both very enjoyable to me, but I also like collecting more

Honestly, I think it's all based on personal preference.
The only Skylanders I care about collecting are all the ssa skyalnders
lesss goooo new Cloud Breaker video and life instantly seems better🔥
Both? Both? Both. Both is good.
My little plastic toys will never let me down 😤
Same here.
Well I just spent $260 on my remaining 6 senseis (no robow) so I’d say the collection is more important
I moslty collect Transformers, but Skylanders is coming back to my mind now so……. Maybe

Thats why I get ps3. It's dirt cheap
