  • On a 12 hours trip in Oman to spot the first YFT of the season, we did almost 450 nautical miles before spotting these on our way back. Equipped with a Blacky 81/8 @YAMAGABlanks_Official I wanted to test the rod and the equipment i had as few are using the Blacky and prefer heavier and stiffer rods for the big game. I honestly liked the rod and the tip which is very versatile and the rod butt has a nice grip.
When the fish is brought closer to the boat, you see the rod blank bending and that reduces the stress on your body and back.
The rod I brought from japan where the seller informed me that his friend managed to land a 90 kg YFT in Japan sea. This size of fish is possible in Oman waters and I would also try to land it despite that this 81/8 category is rated for a 70kg max YFT size, but Yamaga always builds tougher rods. For instance, I used a 120gr wood popper (it showed 115grs on the scale, wood poppers come lighter than their indicated specification by 10 gr usually) as in the video. When I added the trebles and the split rings it reached 130 grams. This rod is rated 40gr-120gr, but i didn't have a problem casting the 130 gr with it. just be careful with the whip when you cast.
